  1. We are in the market for a lightly used O2 system with cannulas. It is time to take 231LR above 12.5.
  2. I have been told by my favorite MSC it is a 10 to 12 week lead time for Mooney to send me a new one. Does anyone have one on your shelf? New or used? P/N 930023-215A Thanks in advance, W
  3. On that note, does anyone have a portable O2 system to sell?
  4. Here is something else to consider: When I get a few things off of my desk, I am going to get into a snit with Continental about false advertising. They are putting out banners talking about the reliability of "Genuine Continental Parts". Well guess what, my TSIO-360 was overhauled by a shop that claims to be a "Continential Distributor". And wouldnt you know it, the damned push rod seals have been replaced, repaired re whatever 4 TIMES NOW !!!!. And they STILL LEAK!!!! And I have all of 150 SMOH. My engine shop recommended switching to something called "Real Gaskets". I retorted back, "Why did you use the Fake Cheap Ass Gaskets" to start with. He was not amused.
  5. And this is why there is a dwindling number of people supporting general aviation. It is bad enough that we have to pay UNGODLY amounts of money for engines made with 1940's level technology. But on top of that we as aircraft operators also have to pay for the mistakes of those companies who cant put out airworthy parts as well? The only industry with lower standards of customer care and service is the marine industry.
  6. Since we have had this engine overhauled in Sept 2014, she has flown about 150 hours. I have been plagued with push rod seal leaks, and a few minor valve cover seal leaks. These leaks are usually on the left side. Although I see cyl 2 and 4 are both culprits. Since leaving the overhaul shop I have had push rod seal leaks repaired over 4 times now. Am I the only one? Should I be calling Continential? Is it possible that people are using cheap aftermarket seals? If I wanted to see oil on my engine and hangar floor then I would have bought a Stearman or DC-3 :-)
  7. Issue has supposedly been resolved. A 40 year old prop governor that had been "repaired" in January 2017, was the cause. It has been replaced with an "Overhauled Unit".I am picking her up tomorrow. Thank you again for all the input, W
  8. Looks to me like he spent his money on avionics and decided to let someone else worry about the engine.
  9. Good Morning, I have the opportunity to purchase a deceased friend's F33A Bonanza from his estate. While my heart is very heavy at this prospect I also take it as an honor to care for his bird as he took great pride in his airplane and his aviation life. With that possibility I would like to ask the group for tips on selling your airplane without a broker. I have sold one airplane in my past. Since maintenance was in tip top shape, I had a deposit within two weeks of advertising her on barnstormers. In this case, 231LR has had tip top maintenance done by MSC's for the past 5 years and 4 months that I have owned her. The only exceptions would be the 2013 and 2014 done by local shops closer to my home base. The main weakness of the aircraft is that we have an original interior that is in ok shape for me. But it will not win any awards with someones wife. Thank you in advance, Walt
  10. I would need gami injectors to do that safely. However, both IA' at my two Mooney shops have been happy with the numbers on my JPI logs. I can inquire further though.
  11. I agree. Don Muncy is pretty darn brilliant. Thank you for your help in the past Don :-)
  12. It is not a merlyn wastegate. I tend to agree with you Cliffy. The prop governor is way too unresponsive at certain points to be operating correctly.
  13. It is definately tight.
  14. Hi guys, It has been a while since I posted. One thing I love about this forum is I come back for an engine issue and find myself considering doing a full interior replacement due to the posting on PP price reduction. This place is not good for my checkbook :-) Anyway, we have something that going on with our motor. During that last annual in January, the prop governor was sent out for repair. There was an AD on it. I have put about 30 hours on it since. And it does not seem to be overly responsive to power changes. Prop speed correction seems to lag a good bit. Another issue that may be related is that MP does not hold steady. I cruise at 31/2500 with mixture at 50 degrees ROP. I have to constantly correct MP to keep it near 31. It seems to want to vary as much as 1 inch either way. I am wondering if I have a loose induction hose in the fuel system or couplings in the turbo system. Perhaps even worse, I problem with the turbo. We have all of 130 hours SMOH. Thank you in advance for your wisdom. W
  15. As a business owner who submits delinquent accounts to the collections agencies on a regular basis, they will send a letter and maybe a phone call or two on a ten dollar account. But they are not going to chase it with gusto. Furthermore, the lack of a written agreement on said bogus fees will nix any collection effort. The entire industry needs to gather together and say FU to this kind of BS. It hurts everybody involved. Including the FBO. Do you honestly think I will EVER darken a Signature door again? Heck no. And that is a shame for the city that allows them to operate a monopoly at their airport. In the case of Asheville, I now avoid it and land at 0A7 and get GREAT service from a locally owned business.
  16. The first and last time someone tried to pull the landing fee plus ramp fee plus security fee routine on me, I got steamed, asked the agent at the desk where was the sign located that would have told me about those fees before I used their ramp and thier security. I also reminded her that my taxes already paid for the runway that I just landed on. She had nothing to say. I then told her that there was NO CONTRACT between us for those fees and that I WOULD NOT PAY THEM. I turned and left with my party and baggage. When I returned 3 days later, we were charged for Normal tie down fees only. Getting assertive and standing your ground works. PS. It was Signature in AVL
  17. I am thinking of installing an OEM system in my 231. Would you send me a quote on your bottle? Thanks, W
  18. Andy, Tom was a close friend of mine. We flew BE-1900's at the same company back in 1988 and we had maintained a close relationship ever since. You are very right, Tom Camman is a soul who would definitely give you the shirt off of your back, help you with anything you needed, and would never judge you afterward. His wake, services and following hangar party at Orlando Sanford were very well attended. On top of 25000 hours in his log books, this established professional had 8 type ratings, owned two airplanes, knew those airplanes inside and out, and was an Airbus Captain for a large airline. I was going to stay silent on this thread, however as I grieve his passing I feel a responsibility to remind everyone that, what happened to this fine gent, can happen to ANY OF US. We, ABSOLUTELY, must always be diligent in the way we operate our airplanes, cars, boats, or participate in any other risky activity. One of the reasons I am writing this, is that I have a Mooney friend who is not on this forum, who nearly killed us both with his lack of checklist use combined with very poor maintenance management. I won't say anymore on the subject except that he and I are still friends and I have delicately coached him over the years. I ask everyone here to please heed my words, and take extra time to: 1. do proper weather briefings 2. make sure you keep your aircraft in excellent repair - I still can't believe what the MSC found on my first annual when I bought 231LR 3. get yearly recurrent training And most importantly, leave your ego at hangar door when you prepare for a flight. Every singe one of us has people we love and who love us dearly. And we do not want them to mourn our early and needless loss. Fly Safe, Walt
  19. There are several methods that work. I, however, found this video done by the Mooney Guru himself, Don Maxwell. It has always worked well for me.
  20. Jake, How much does it add to the bill for new cylinders? TCM original.
  21. I always go to the back woods strip, owned by one family that spends their whole life supporting that airport and GA in general. Case in point is 0A7 which is just south of KAVL. John is the mechanic, lineman, flight instructor, and airport manager/owner. He and his family do a far better job of caring for every customer than any employee at the big FBO's.
  22. Soooo let's say Biffy and Buffy have their second home in St Simons, Tybee or where ever. If they want to charter an aircraft and go every other week, which airport has the nicest facilities and surroundings. For example, they would like to avoid the airport that is surrounded by dah hood in case their Maserati breaks down. Biffy and Buffy are going to be going to this airport every other weekend. And they HATE flying out of Hartsfield. So which would be your choice.
  23. Hi guys, I am doing some research into the GA airports around Atlanta as I may be spending a good bit of time up there. I know PDK is the big dog airport. But what about some of the others. I do not know much about Fulton County. Any thoughts of which airport with good access to downtown is your favorite? Thanks, Walt
  24. Sooooo uhhhh Jake, You DID say you'd take a 231 in turn key mechanical condition for even trade. Right? :-)
