  1. On another note, is there going to be a well qualified mooney IA that is going to be in Chattanooga? I have a very short list of minor items I would like to have cared for while I am in ground school.
  2. I have arranged my schedule to make it to Chattanooga. Which airport is this being held at? And does anyone have information on hotels there?
  3. I miss Heathkit. I had so much fun building their products.
  4. Does anyone have a recommendation of a CFI who knows the 231 inside and out? I am planning on going in order to refine my Mooney skills. Which, honestly, I feel are "adequate" to be safe in all situations. However there is a "Next Level" that we are all capable of achieving.
  5. Compliments to them for pushing the limits of the aircraft. I, of course am a wimp and would do "Nature Calls" in Greenland and Iceland. The only time I would do this non stop would be in my usual 767 with a bathroom and regular deliveries of coffee and food.
  6. I do not have the tool but I will be happy to get a DEAL on my next annual
  7. Doesn't it seem like your avionics shop needs to be mentioned as well. One of my hot buttons is when a shop takes in your aircraft/car/boat whatever and then sets your schedule back while they place a higher priority on projects coming in AFTER you got there. My aircraft serves a purpose in my life, my business etc. When the aircraft is sitting as a static display in his hangar while he cares for his bigger dollar clients, buddies aircraft etc then we start seeing the temperature rise in the relationship.
  8. Oh you guys are soooooo spoiled. Whining over 70 bucks for a master key. You need to own a Lexus or Mercedes if you want to get ripped off for a stupid key.
  9. And if you don't get enough practice with his then mine is next :-)
  10. Gentlemen, In the electrical section of the 231 maintenance manual there is a troubleshooting list that describes all the possible symptoms and the associated parts on the schematic that if bad would cause said symptoms. It takes some digging and reading, but all of the information is there. As a ham radio operator I can say that the schematic is very well laid out. Hope this helps, W
  11. Yet the two parts that I found to be bad are about 88 cents at any electronic supply shop. Amazing how many "Aviation Businesses" make their way by ripping us off. And they wonder why aviation is in decline. Trust me, it is not just the government nor fuel prices that are to blame.
  12. Any decent ham radio operator could fix this box.
  13. It is in the electrical section of your maintenance manual. And on that note, I have narrowed it down to two parts thanks to an excellent job of writing by Mooney on that manual. Question, does anyone have a pdf of the maintenance manual for the earlier 231s? I have the manual for the later models and I need one that covers serial no 25-0025. Thanks, Walt
  14. Well I have a new philosophy regarding aircraft maintenance. If it doesn't work or doesn't work as certified., it gets fixed. Period. After 3 years of owning 231LR she is darn near 99.9 percent restored mechanically. I will be posting pics soon after the next Meguiars wax job. :-)
  15. Good Morning Fellow Mooniacs, I have my avionics guy chasing a Fuel Low light issue in our annunciator panel. They have been intermittently unreliable on the push to test item on the before starting checklist. He has it narrowed down to something faulty in the 37 yr old IC circuits on the board. Picture is attached. Part number is: 500D0038 Does anyone have a solution for this? Thank you in advance, W
  16. I am soooo glad to know that I am not the only one. After two miserable experiences with A&P shops I was starting to consider selling and getting out of general aviation completely. Joe Cadiz in Titusville does my annuals and is very thorough. We use 3D aviation in Deland for avionics and between annual items. I could not be happier with either of them.
  17. Is that US taxes or Mexican taxes? I didnt know that our IRS would still accept written tax forms
  18. I notice on both the SCS and Plane Plastics websites they show selections for the M20J but not the K model. I would assume that the interiors are identical. Correct??
  19. Another thread that reminds me why i LOVE this forum. Cheers, W
  20. Considering the critical function of the fuel tank vents, I find it interesting that there are no covers made specifically for them. Unlike the pitot tubes which have multiple vendors offering covers. Regards, W
  21. Is there a page in the mx manual regarding this adjustment? I do not have a copy of it.
  22. When returning home from picking up our "Baby" from the maintenance shop the recently adjusted entry door popped open after about an hour in flight. Our IA had adjusted the door mechanism to correct an issue where the door would not close flush with the body. He stated that it appears that the door is warped a bit from its past owner. Does anyone have any guidance on how difficult it is to adjust this mechanism? Thanks, W
  23. It actually looks pretty cool and innovative. http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2015/February/12/L3-unveils-Lynx-line-of-ADSB-products
  24. I have the MT prop on my 231 also. LOVE THE CLIMB PERFORMANCE !!!!!!
