Something to be said about the cabin design.

Don't forget how many new middle class jobs that created...

I think it should be immediately impounded and sold to Bernie's campaign for one dollar to be used as the future, more eco friendly Air Force Two

Aspen to Display Garmin ADS-B Data
AndyFromCB replied to Marauder's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
It was probably reported as a feature to upper management: "Our trouble ticket volume has declined significantly in the last 24 hours" -
My record still stands at 3 go arounds before landing, so I wouldn't be too hard on yourself.

Off Airport Landing-What is your strategy?
AndyFromCB replied to L. Trotter's topic in General Mooney Talk
You've got all the time in the world at cruising altitude...I assume you'll be hitting nearest anyway to first try to find an airport. -
Off Airport Landing-What is your strategy?
AndyFromCB replied to L. Trotter's topic in General Mooney Talk
Your face will absorb the energy as it smacks the panel when you flip, being your nose gear will most likely fail before the mains (unless you're flying a Cherokee, in which case the nose wheel might stay attached even as the mains fail, I've seen a Cherokee looking like a Europa once at an airport). Even if you don't flip, introducing a sudden deceleration, even if temporary, is not optimum. I'll take a smooth 30ft from 50knots to zero with gear up, over the possibility of sudden, "instant" deceleration even from 20knots. Goal is to stop ASAP in a smooth fashion. -
Off Airport Landing-What is your strategy?

Number one thing you can do in almost airport landings is to hit your nearest weather button on XM and find out the wind direction and land as much into the wind as possible. Touching down at 50mph vs 70mph with a 10mph breeze makes all the difference in the world. -
Nothing a little JBWeld won't fix ;-) I would strongly recommend a little tug on the exhaust pipe before each flight. If that turbo detaches itself in flight, say your prayers and just dive down. You'll be equally dead, but at least it won't be as painful as being burnt to a crisp.

Aspen to Display Garmin ADS-B Data
AndyFromCB replied to Marauder's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Dan, This is a new feature, wasn't even on the drawing board when Aspen first came out. You still running Windows 3.1? No. So you've paid Microsoft for new software before. Why should Aspen be different just because it's software? -
Aspen to Display Garmin ADS-B Data
AndyFromCB replied to Marauder's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
For the same reason Garmin charges you $3K to display WSI weather on the GMX200, or $2.5K to display BK RDR-2000 on your GTN, because it cost them money to develop and certify that feature. I'm going to assume you only charge once for teeth cleaning and then it's all freebies for the rest of the customer's life. I love this attitude we have here, being I assume most of you don't do pro bono work 100% of time as you all seem to be able to afford to fly and yet you expect Aspen to work for free. Like I said, being it's a real time, certified software on a custom platform, it probably took at least 500 hours or so just to write the code to handle the data feed, and another couple of hundred just to study Garmin's specs. -
Aspen to Display Garmin ADS-B Data

You've ever worked with some of these folks? I have. That $15 an hour will cost $300 before all is said and done. I tell my clients you can pay me now or you can pay me later, except that later I'll know I'll have you by the balls. I just billed an invoice for $45K for a week of work after a client dropped my maintenance agreement, took the work to Hungary and then came crying few months later when it all fell apart. To say the least, I will not be reentering into my standard maintenance agreement with them ;-) -

I love how everyone whines about $$$. Software ain't cheap. Let's say this feature took 3 guys charging $125 an hour (actually a pretty low rate for a decent real time software programmer, I've been paying $90 an hour for some half way decent people here in Iowa, working on C# websites) 6 months to implement, QC and then certify. That's $375K. That's about 500 boxes before you even turn profit. $375K might be a low end of what it cost to implement. Just got done with a project where initial estimate was $9million, it went to $25million, before it all got scrapped. That's software development for you, I've seen it more times than I can count on both hands. Have yet to see one finished on time and on budget. Close to half of the projects I've worked on ended up being false starts. I assume Aspen has about the same rate. -
Here is the little description of what NOx does it all of us, enjoy. Acid rain alone is worth caring about, like I mentioned before, you all old folks and your sensitive lungs and hearts, I could not care less about ;- ) http://www.nchh.org/Portals/0/Contents/EPA_Nitrogen_Oxides.pdf

Don't quote daily shit or whatever they call themselves this days. Deliver a clear PDF, with clear data, please. At best, even the worst ship is delivering 100,000hp on a good day. That's 1000 cars aka 16000 cars AKA my block. The article is BS and you know it. Prove me wrong, please.
-
Bullshit, quotations, or or you're full of it. 40x is what the WV engines were doing when it comes to NOxs. Fires are precisely screwed because of the industry. It's only in the last 10 years or so that the forest service finally allowed the brush and deadfall to start burning. And yes, the VWs in this world blow away all the fires, volcanoes, etc, once again quotations. Please deliver because otherwise 40% of all pollution is easily attributed to transportations. Say otherwise, prove it, or quite spreading BS. You know, I don't take BS from either left or right of the spectrum, so prove you're right.

No, of course it could not be about breaking the law. And yes, it is about $11 billion or $18 billion, potentially, plus another $7 billion to fix it. Great IMHO, short term thinking got them, maybe really got them. Most companies were complying with the regulations, VW chose not to. Now they will pay the price. I'm not shedding any tears. And yes, EPA does care about pollution, quite a bit, actually. If that was not the case, there would not be so much whining and crying from the industry. VWs were emitting 40x allowed NOx. That's the air I am breathing too. Sorry if I like for it to be clean.

If your Passat uses the urea tank, you're fine. It's the cars without urea injection that were programed to bypass the scrubber when on the road. Apparently, now the German government is going after them as well. Good for them. Maybe after one giant company goes Tango Uniform and the peanut salmonella guy dies in prison, companies will slowly realize they are not above the law.

Was meant to be sarcastic, obviously, JPII helped to bring the commies down. Stalin must be rolling in his grave.

And how many divisions has the Pope got? Yeah, exactly...

You should read up on NOx does and how many people it kills annually. Many more than the switches...Mostly older folks, so what do I care ;-) Seems to be EU's solution to aging population.
-
No they haven't. No in the 2 liter, 4 banger variety. Just started that in 2015 for the small engines.

Maybe one day Lycoming and Cessna will get bought out by China and then they can move all production/overhauls to a 21st century facility with CNC machines ;-) Been playing a lot of high pressure solenoid valves in my latest project. The ones we source from China are vastly superior to anything we can get from USA or Europe. Only the ones from Japan are better but at 7x cost, not worth it. Ones we can source from US manufactures are pure junk. I don't need a microscope to see flaws on the balls...

What's the worst IMC experience you've encountered
AndyFromCB replied to M016576's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
You would not catch me dead driving American junk ;-) And I really meant when it comes to scheduled flights. I feel much safer on airlines or corporate flights in a King Air/Citation when I have a schedule to meet. Or driving. I have been working 90 hour weeks for a while now, trust me, you do not want me in the air in anything less than CAVU. Maybe I'll go flying this weekend. But then, I'm a wuss. -
Been so busy I highly doubt I hit 20 this year just staying IFR current. All my flights between last annual have been IFR currency burger runs…Been spending a lot of time in the rear, with the gear...
