Are there left and right senders ?? Sounds to me like the sender is in the wrong orientation when installed in the tank. BILL

Wanted: Card Reader and Spare Data Card for Garmin 430 WAAS
DrBill replied to Hank's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
They are similar to Compact Flash cards but a unique package I'm sure to increase profit for Garmin. I bought one when I got the plane and it's great. I just swap it out when I go flying after an update. BILL- 13 replies

Without taking the cabin end apart, I can't say it would work since the switch for the warning light is built into the cabin end. You can always return the cable if it does not work out for you but don't open it until you remove the cabin end and see how the switch assembly is connected to the cable shield. Take some pics if you can. BILL

Right now I'm 25.5 heading toward 24.9. I was as high (in the past 2 years) as 29.5! The last 4 pounds is the hardest to lose! BILL

Thanks to N201MKTurbo I finally fixed this one and it's like NEW ! It was finally warm enough and I had time allocated to do the job. I removed the bolts from the oil cooler and moved it aside so I could access the bell crank from the opening. Loosed the nut and removed the cable from the clamp. From Inside, see pic 1 shows the center part and spring showing. Ball was missing. Pic 2, I pull back on the cable until the hole shows (close to panel in picture). Drop in a new 1/8 in ball. Had to push in on center for ball to drop in and I could push cable back into housing. Now, re-attach cable to bell crank, adjust for proper operation and re-install the oil cooler. I have 99 more balls if anyone needs one. I bought 100 from McMaster-Carr for $2.09 !! This now works so smooth. Pic 2: Pic 1: Bill

Som Many requestors have no idea how far we can go or how many legs it takes.. You can go online and see requests like Dallas to Seattle. Good luck getting that in one flight. When I see some requestors that are local, I try to help by splitting the flight up into 2 hr legs and they seem to fill quicker. A dog can get from NC to Maine in on day with proper planning. I've done it since 2005 or6.BILL

Are all HSI's Slaved ? Mine is slaved to a sensor out in the wing. Are there HSIs that are not slaved and should be adjusted like a vacuum operated DG ? BILL

An HSI and autopilot go together, I know it's not necessary but the real ease of flying with HSI/Autopilot is just awesome. I never had one before this airplane and it took me a while to get used to it (about 10 -30 seconds !!). BILL

I needed a muffler this year and got it quick from this place in Ft Mill, SC http://www.aircraftexhaust.com/contactus.cfm BILL

Bob B and I bought our planes about the same time and had the same mechanic do the prebuy. When he did his panel upgrade I bought his JPI450 fuel meter and had it installed... A great add-on. We still have yet to get together somewhere even though we are 60 mi apart. I promise it will happen soon. BILL

I have a 65 E I bought 2 1/2 years ago. <4K total time c 900 smoh, 3 blade prop, P&I 8/10 but the avionics were top notch. 430 WAAs with STEC 30 alt hold and GPSS. 4 years earlier the owner put 45K into the avionics for his cross country ops. I paid him $46K and I think I got a great deal. This plane is GREAT. fast, cheap to operate and fun to fly. An autopilot would cost c 12-15K to add on same for a new Garmin 650. I'm planning on adding ADSB in the next year ($6K). I added bladders last year C$8k. SO. it depends on how much you want to add to ge the plane you want. I spent 6 months looking at 8 websites daily to find this one. BILL

My door pops open a few times too. But, if I always check the door prior to takeoff by pressing at the top center and on the right side, near the top and see if there is ANY movement. If so, we open and re-close the door. Other times it's opened when the pass knee pops up the latch handle !! I don't have inflatable seal. Bill

KLN89B is a good IFR GPS.. Not WAAS but good for enroute and localizer like approaches. BILL

That brings back fond memories.. When I worked for Big Blue, I managed an engineering team responsible for the analog and RF characteriscs and ckts for printers. We spent many hours in our chamber like the one pictured above. I later got my PhD in wireless communication. Good stuff ! Thanks ! BILL

I too bought the last one from Russel but repaired the old one for a spare. It just had a few small tears (1/2 in long) and the A&P and I used long cotton threads from a denim fabric and black RTV. Looks like new now. BILL

Roughly what does Aaron charge per mag for single mag inspection ? I'm due in July. BILL

The spot landing part must be in a retract, all else can be in fixed gear. BILL

My younger son graduated from ERAU. He now is a captain for Piedmont Airlines. He has stories of his schooling (or lack thereof) like the time he broke his arm falling from a roof of a house when trying to go to the bathroom (so I'm told). I know he had a GREAT time there by the length of time it took him to graduate. But he is now doing what he loves to do and I'm proud of him. BILL

Get the written out of the way, my instructor says about 10hr flight time MAX. Plus the checkride. That's probably going to be your harderst part is getting the checkride scheduled in that time period. Maybe some others can help on how to do that.

After my PPL I bought a low wing (my preference) plane to do my IFR in. I looked at Cherokees, Grumman and many more. I ended up with a Beech Sundowner and had it (with a partner) for 7 years. It was a great plane to get hours and my IFR in. When my partner wanted out I got the Mooney and do not regret getting it later in my flying life. I have so many good experiences in the Beech and it helps me really appreciate the advantages of the Mooney (primarily speed). The transition to the Mooney was a learning experience and I'm glad I had a lot of IFR and IMC experience in the Beech. Everything comes SO MUCH FASTER in the MOONEY. My insurance required 10 dual and 10 solo prior to carrying passengers. I think that is a good amount. For my 10 hrs solo, I flew to many local airports that I had not been to before and that was a great excercise with the new plane. Good luck in your decision. And sooner or later we'll welcome you to the Mooney family. BILL

Looks to me like you cut it off in too many pieces. There should be only one piece of tape. Cut the tape along the back of the yoke so there is only one seam, you will also have a Y in the middle and large C's on the top of each yoke where the PTT buttons would be. BILL

I'd love to do it this year but given I have to fly with a copilot for a year, I have to put it off for another year. BILL

Let me start it off... I just got a kitchen pass to go so I got a good flight package from Delta for $312 round trip. My Mooney gas one way would be right at 300. Plus I'd need a co-pilot so it just does not make sense. Next is to select a hotel ... I was there 2 years (or was it 3) ago and am looking forward to this April. BILL

That's a nice website. When I get back to doing them I'll have to do that too! BILL
