  1. What baffles me in HOT START situations is this. You shut the engine down by cutting the fuel supply. Now, you come back 1 minute or more later and the engine will start with NO CHANGE in the mixture lever. OK. it doesnt' run that way but where did it get the fuel to START ? Remember, we shut off with the throttle set at 1000 RPM. Now get back in the plane, TOUCH NO LEVERS and hit the key. Mine starts EVERY TIME !. Push in the mixture and I'm off !! BILL
  2. This was my 2nd (first in 2011). Both times I flew commercially due to the cost (less than 1/2 predicted fuel burn). (<$300). I found this one slightly better than the first. I did find all the forums were interesting. I will return but not every year.. Every 3rd seems about right for me. I really enjoyed the factory tour. I liked the painting presentation probably the best but they were all good. I guess the paint one is most on my mind right now. WELL DONE EVERYONE !! BILL
  3. The interesting thing about the renewal process is that you MUST wait for the letter from the FAA with your number that authorizes you to renew your registration !. I got my letter, completed the online process and received my new registration within a week !!.. They finally got something right. BILL
  4. Matt's Mooney is now in Mexico and was at Kerrville 2 years ago. Black/Red. Still has US registration.. I had dinner with the owner.. Real nice family. BILL
  5. Super..then Mine is SOLD to 3210S BILL
  6. YEP.. I got one I'll never use again. How's $30 sound ? Paypal Id is WA2EDN@bellsouth.net BILL
  7. I had my portable bottle tested early last year. It's interesting how they did it. I had it done at a Fire Extinguisher refil shop called Simplex-Grinnel. They put the bottle in a tank filled with water then pressurize the bottle. They measure how much water is pushed out of the tank due to the growth of the tank due to the pressure ( I think it was 3000 psi). Then they remove the pressure and some water is sucked back in the tank. The water that is left is measured and that has the limit indicating that the bottle expanded and then contracted but not back to original size. BILL
  8. I'm staying at the Inn of the Hills as it is close to the airport. BILL
  9. Nice picture.. it's amazing how small it looks from this POV compared to walking around the place... Everytime I go to S Florida (Okeechobee) they vector me around either to Gainsville VOR or over Daytona to Melbourne. BILL
  10. I agree, a small or medium crate will do fine and easily fit in the back seat. Have fun. Sounds like a great trip. BILL (learned to fly at Kobelt, just NW of Stewart at Newburgh)
  11. 675 total, 157 in my M20E for 2.5 years. 366 in my previous plane(a Beech Sundowner I had for 7 years). Bill
  12. I've had mine for a year. Best decision I ever made. I'll never have to worry about fuel leaks again. I had mine done at the factory. They took me to Scranton after I dropped off the plane and picked me up a week later. I'm still friends and communicate with the guy that gave me the lifts (he's walking the Appalachian trail). BILL
  13. My current commute to the plane is 3 miles (about 6 minutes). If I had to partner, I'd limit the commute to 30-40 mins. That would pull in 3 other airports plus my current one. On of the reasons I sold my boat was that the nearest lake are 45 mins away so each trip waisted 1.5 hrs of my time just getting to/ from the water. With my current airport I can leave the house, do 3 night landings and be home within an hour, and that includes putting it back in the hangar. BILL
  14. My cable failed when the mechanic messed it up taking the cowling off(lost the ball in the latch mechanism). I don't think he even realized he did it but it's fixed now and should last a LONG time. BILL
  15. The OTHER twin lakes... just West of Winston Salem 8A7 Brian did some workwhen I had the JPI installed. No problems and he treated me right. Sorry I said 8a6 (that's Wilgrove where I'm based)... BILL
  16. Got a co-pilot to join me. Food is typically served at 0900. Cost is $6-9 usually. Full breakfast. Looks like IFR till 9 or so. I've filed an IFR flight plan for the 20 min flight ! BILL
  17. Bob , Where did you get yours balanced ? BILL
  18. My guy moved to TN.. Wildhorseracing may jump in here with a guy in Asheboro... I was impressed with the little work the guy did on mine recently at Twin Lakes (8a7).(corrected was 8a6.. 8a7 is correct) BILL
  19. Well done,, I enjoyed it. BILL
  20. Your experience with the other insurance company is similar to one I had where a guy pulled out in front of me and my boat (on trailer) and I T boned him. Totaled my truck, boat (19 ft MAKO Openfishermna) and trailer. The boat came foward up over the tailgate and over the right rail of the pick up bed, then went 50 ft down the road! No injuries ! I did get a decent settlement so I got a new truck and bought my first airplane! This was in 2000. A LOT of work that I did not get compensated for. BILL
  21. I had AOPA(chartis) until this year.. The proposed a flat (no increase) until I asked for 10 K more in hull value , then they went up. SO I got a quote from our friends at FALCON and it BLEW THEM AWAY ! When I called to cancel , they offered me a lower price!! I told them to shove it, they should have offered me the lower price at the start since I was with them for 10 years ! BILL
  22. Got any schematics of how they should be wired ? Take some pics and we'll see if the connectors are available and make them up. BILL
  23. I'd offer to help but no medical for a year. I'd need a pilot to ride back!! BILL
  24. Good luck with the interview, my younger son just got left seat on Dash 8s for Piedmont. He somehow got 1st officer before he graduated from Embry Riddle. Finish his degree last year via distance learning (the internet). He's based in Roanoke. PM me if you want his contact info. BILL
  25. I'd like to see the simulation of a bird strike like US 1549 (miracle on hudson) before I trusted any automated system to fly me around. BILL
