  1. I got mine from ALDI on sale for $20. ALDI is a low price grocery chain around here. I've compared it to those in hospital and doctors office and it's always within 1 unit. BILL
  2. I think the lowest price on any aircraft part is 1AMU. I bet that same pump is used in Boeing 787s and is at least 1AMU !! BILL
  3. An RV fresh water pump is the same and you can get them online for about $50. The pump builds up pressure in the output hose then the pump will turn off. I use it for a outdoor shower in my popup when boondocking at a nascar track. We have a 50 gal plastic drum we fill with water in the morning and by 4-5 pm it's nice and warm sitting in the sun.
  4. On the test flight with the owner. Have him demonstrate EVERY piece of avionics (even if you don't know how to operate it). Have him take the time to show you. If he does not, or will not, consider that piece of avionics to be INOP and adjust the price accordingly. When I bought mine, the owner showed me everything and even how the autopilot and gps got coupled and we did a gps approach to his airport (non-towered). He let the box fly the airplane to 50 ft (just adjusting throttle to stay on glideslope) then pushed the button and landed. This told me he really trusted the electronics and they were good to go. Still are after 3 years ! BILL
  5. My JPI450 is usually within 1/2 of a gallon at fillup.
  6. Here is some pictures of my setup. First the oximizer canula and the flow control in K feet. Second the refill tank in my hangar with the transfill hose and gauge around it. I normally keep the top on the tank and took it off for the picture. The CGA540 fittings fit the fill tank and the portable tank in the airplane. You need to be sure you get the hose that fits your tanks. I got the tank off Craigslist for $25 and had it exchanged for $15 for a full one. Call the welding gas dealers in your area. I found prices from $15 to $50 for the same size tank.
  7. I just put a NEW 8163 Weldon in eBAY for $300. Let me know if you want it. BILL
  8. First, when I first got O2, I had regular canula, I used my whole bottle in 3.5 hrs on a trip to S. Fla. I then bought the oximizer canula and now it's easy to get 10-12 hrs from the same bottle at 12-14K. (1 person) with the same O2 saturation (I use a O2 meter when flying). I have found that at 12K, my O2 will drop to 80% in 12-15 mins w/o the canula. Put back on it's up over 95 in about 5 mins ! There should be no sounds other than the air coming from the canula or mask. I'm going flying today so I'll take a picture of my refill and operation setup and post this afternoon. With one welding bottle I don't get a full reflill each time but when the pressure gets below 1400, I swap it out for the $15-20.(2-3 plane bottle refills) BILL
  9. My oximizer canula have a metering device and it is marked in k feet. I bought my large (80 cu ft) O2 bottle on Craigslist for $25 and got it filed for $15 (swapped for full one). The big expense was the transfil hose (c $100). Works great. BILL
  10. I used to fly from the airport where SkyGeek is located.. There is no space/place for a vendor like that.. I think they run out of a back room with 2 or 3 desks and computers. No stock because there is no space. It's a REAL SMALL FIELD. Bill
  11. Of all the dogs I've flown, only ONE was noticible for his flagelance. REALLY noticible. We mentioned it to the pilots of the next leg and they confirmed after the flight was over that "Rusty" was feeling no pain ! BILL
  12. Found the induction leak at the tap for standby vacuum. Will make a new gasket for the tap. Bill
  13. Plane is in for annual and we noticed a brown stain which appears to have come out the vent hole at the center of the fuel flow divider. Is this an indication that the diaphragm in the divider is shot and needs to be replaced ? I took a picture with my phone buy Verizon will not let me transfer it to coputer w/o their $$ software and feature. I'll take a pic on Monday with my camera and post. Also, idle speed is too high and the screw is all the way out. We're looking for induction leaks.. Anything else cause high idle speed ? Bill 8/22 got the picture.. mechanic thinks it's old leak given color and just never cleaned. Does not appear to be fresh.
  14. I have a JPI 450 (bought from Bob and it's within a TENTH of a GALLON. However I made some fuel dip sticks and calibrated them when the tank was used up. It's a wooden dowel with a piece of 1/4 in clear tube attached. Stick in the tank, put finger over end of tube and pull out. The fuel remains in tube and indicates how much is in the tank. I'll take some pics next time to the airport. BILL
  15. I did mine when I landed downwind. Took off, flew around for about 30 mins and returned. "Assumed" no wind change and landed same direction as takeoff. When I almost ran out of runway, I got stopped and back at the hangar checked the tires and wind.. Wind had shifted and spotted only one. Now I check the sock on downwind EVERY LANDING . BILL
  16. Yes, use a filter to cut down the light and make the aperture larger. That is caused by the rolling shutter of image device.. The electronics cannot capture all pixels at once but do it row by row starting at the top. A larger aperture will make the prop be in motion and not stopped so youll see a "gray" circle. There is a filter available for GO PRO Cameras that eliminate this. BILL
  17. Tip... When replacing the pump, be sure all the fittings are threaded onto the pump BEFOREmounting the pump into the plane. Tighten the fittings after mounting it in the plane. Good Luck ! BILL
  18. There is a kit from Mooney (c$2000 ?) that converts it to a Weldon (8163-A) but Weldon just came out with an exact replacement for the Dukes(18020A). The 8163 fits a J model or an E or F with the Mooney Kit (fuel lines and bracket). Bill
  19. Steve at Hickory NC has done extensive research and work on these caps.. Check out his past posts for some of the data. I believe he has re-surfaced some of the wear points to make them. Bill
  20. My Zulu (one) is my 3rd Lightspeed product upgrading twice. I checked the PFX at OSH last year and was not impressed with the difference. I feel the difference is not worth the added dollars. Lightspeed cust service is #1. When I had the XL's, they fixed them for me on the spot at Sun N Fun. My Zulu has needed nothing except new ear pads and batteries. BILL
  21. I'm on my 3rd Lightspeed headset. Upgraded each time and my experience with customer service matches that of Sven. Last year at OSHKOSH I compared mine to the new ones and did not find that the difference justified the price so I keep my Zulu Ones. BILL
  22. Aircraft batteries are a higher voltage than automotive batteries... Aircraft are typically 14.1 where Automotive are 12.0. Hence the maintainers are of different design. Battery minder has an AIRCRAFT model that works GREAT with aircraft batteries. I also use their Automotive model for batteries around the house (tractor, car, truck, etc). Spend the extra $ and get the RIGHT ONE. BILL
  23. I went last year and it was enough for me.. There was nothing there to bring me back. BILL
  24. As said above, the poster has no clue on breaking up a trip into legs. When I see a trip I can help in, I break it into legs and post the legs. Then others can sign up for a leg on a specific date. Sometimes the poster can get a foster home for a dog for a night at a transfer if pilots can't meet up. BILL
  25. I bought the large tank for the hangar on Craigslist for $25. I swap it for a full one at the local welding supplier.. Call around to find the lowest cost swap. Got the refill hose here: http://www.travel-air-us.com/id84.html BILL
