  1. Peevee, you should take a drive up to Jasper and time permitting take a look at the Columbia Icefields, beautiful area. Banff has a tendency to get very busy time of year.
  2. For your charts just download Fltplan.com app, its free and has all the Canadian Charts.
  3. Just talked with the people at Canpass ( 1-888-226-7277 ), and asked them about non canpass holders and landing at CYBW, you are good to go between the hours of 9:00am and 9pm, you just have to make the standard call to them, they will come and meet you at the the airport. I also talked to someone in the tower (atc), and he tells me hes only seen an agent out there maybe twice in past year. Canpass holders can land at CYBW 24 hours a day, that seems to be the only difference.
  4. I'm based at CYBW and I don't think you need can pass as long as you come in while they are operational. They send agents down from CYYC to come meet you, at least that's the way it used to operate. They will be closed tomorrow because it's a Canada day holiday, but I'll make a call for you Tuesday. YYC is not ga friendly, it will cost you $110 to land there, I'm not sure what it's costs to exit, but I'm sure it will be something, Springbank is where you want to go, but even parking there is at a premium.
  5. I had a young guy (student Pilot) in my plane the other day and he was wearing a set of David Clark. First time for him in my plane so I let him take control and mid flight we traded headsets as well, I have a set of Bose A20s. It was remarkable how much better the clarity was on the Bose set. I had a set of Bose X before these one, they where very good as well. If you need to hear ATC, they are good investments. When I was doing my original flight training 13 years ago I could understand anything ATC was say, the X help with that and when the As came it I moved to them, that was a marginal improvement, on a budget, Id look for a set of the Xs.
  6. Thanks @Andy95W and @RLCarter, great community here.
  7. Its my understanding that the T-Tail is not the easiest plane to fly either, the stabilizer at lower speeds, landing, does not get a lot of wash from the prop because of its location. But keep the speeds up and its not a problem, used to fly an Arrow II, hard to not land that plane well.
  8. Went out to the hanger last and chipped some of the old paint out of the wheel well, it just chips out, most of it, but with rivets and bends, maybe half of the paint is gone and the other half remains. Its a mess, I dont want to paint over the old, I know in the shops they would us a stripper, is this getting beyond do it yourself, if not what kind of stripper. Had the tank resealed a coup[le of years ago, wouldn't want to have to redo it again.
  9. Thats great news, I have one in my plane already, but will look forward to the new site.
  10. Ottawa international, $120 for a tie down, that actually didn't have a tie down. Landed on a cross country and bad weather, almost hurricane winds, asked how much for an overnight in the hangar, $600. Called them later to put my cover on and when I got there the next day, the cover was half on and slapping the side of the plane.
  11. Primer was mentioned above, I thought all paint jobs over metal would require a primer, is it not needed with the auto paint mentioned above? My wheel wells need paint as well.
  12. I had a guy ferry my airplane a couple of years back, experienced Mooney pilot, fried the engine with 200 SMOH. I would never let anyone fly my 231 again unless I have absolute trust in them and their ability to fly a 231. Its just a little more temperamental then most airplanes, with someone who really knows how to run it, its a great plane.
  13. I heard the story this morning on CBC radio, another fine job by our friends at United Airlines, one of the worst customer service companies on the planet, still doing my part to bad mouth them after my two bad experiences with them.
  14. I had the same thing happen, its likely you need another file to unlock those functions again, the unit did not recognize your tail number, and those functions as being paid for already.
  15. Aviation Consumer magazine has no advertisements.
  16. Thank you for all your years of service to the Mooney and aviation community!
  17. No but I did install the patch today, took less than a minute and all the features call alive. I think you are going to have to do the same.
  18. Mine need works as well, a video would be greatly appreciated.
  19. It turns out that even after 10.20 was installed in my unit, the WIFI, Bluetooth and SVS functions where not activated because they are add on services, paid extras. You can buy the unit without them, I had bought the whole meal deal and Avidyne is sending me the file to correct the situation.
  20. Signal was good, I was out for about an hour.
  21. Yes, something just doesn't seem to be working, to the manual I guess.
  22. The Nav data and obstacles reads Feb 2017 and yes I checked, up adapted to 10.20 in the setup.
  23. So I had my IFD540 updated to 10.20 this week and my first fight was today. I must be doing something wrong, I cant get the SVS tab at all and I still cant get FSR, I'm running the data base that came with the update, any ideas, I've never had FSR.
