  1. Nice Don. I am putting it on the calendar. Russ
  2. Steven by chance is Brian replacing your baggage light and beacon with a 90724 Whelen? He told me about yours and added one to the order for me. Apparently it is TSO'd. I am on a quest to convert all lights on my plane to LED. Still need to figure out the recognition lights in the tips. Russ
  3. This is what Sirius Aviation support told me "It’s faster radar. The weather provider was able to change the way they process the information thereby improving the update rate." I will try to test it. Russ
  4. I was intrigued by your responses and did some more research. I read the AIM 4.5.9 that shows a table that FIS B broadcast of the NEXRAD image is now 2.5 minutes. That made me think is Sirius just keeping up with the FIS B and wondering if they are actually getting the NEXRAD source faster than 5 minutes. Are they just sending the same NEXRAD image every 2.5 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes on hold with Sirius I got tech support that said the 2.5 minute transmitting was news to him that marketing had not informed them of that. He gave me an email in support to ask about how this works. I will post when they inform me. Russ
  5. A sneaky way of marketing perhaps.
  6. I just got a flyer from Sirius about service improvements. NEXRAD radar data now transmitting at 2.5 minute update rate versus previous 5 minutes. 2 Times faster than ADSB. Precipitation data now at 2.5 minutes vs 5 minutes. ADSB = 5 minutes. Lightning data at 2.5 minutes versus none for ADSB. I wonder if ADSB is hurting their subscriptions. Russ
  7. It was LIFR all over South Texas this morning. Went up and did some IFR approaches. Check out this progression of air carriers coming in over my approach to final on their way to IAH. I have never seen them so dense. They must have been circling out west waiting to come in. Russ
  8. Any idea what “other” parts are being produced and for who? Mooney manufacturing says they make parts for other manufacturers. Just curious. Russ
  9. I think I may wait on the autopilot to see what happens with the NXI and our GX planes, if anything. Russ
  10. Would you mind sharing the procedure? Thanks, Russ
  11. I have been operating off of the same Garmin SD cards, or should I say Micro SD cards, in my G-1000. It becomes cumbersome to go back and forth to the hangar to retrieve them, download new monthly data, then upload to the panel. These original Garmin TSO cards are actually micro SD cards in a holder. Somewhere I read it might not be legal from the FAA perspective to not use the Garmin TSO cards. Garmin offers blank cards that you must order through a Garmin dealer. I believe the part number is 010-01431-00. I have been told they are $100 with someone else saying $350. I do not know what magic Garmin might add to available retail cards to make them worth this price. The G-1000 and software loading will have some limitations. I believe they must be formatted as FAT32 and less than 8GB in size. I believe Garmin maybe using SANDISK which are about $12 for a card. Does anyone have any input on this subject? Russ
  12. I agree with the T/O performance. I use Cloud Ahoy app to measure before and after T/O performance (Hartzel 3 versus MT 4) shows quite a bit shorter take off for the MT4. Russ
  13. ....did I mention I have a prop for sale? Bump. Russ
  14. Coastal effect over Pensacola.
  15. 7693DF-2 still available. Russ
  16. I did a pirep in Avionics. I wouldn’t waste your time with their full flap module if you have a GX. It works well. I have the HUD. Russ
  17. But, there is a ecosystem with Harley’s much like Mooney’s. Russ
  18. Thanks for passing this along David. I found the comparisons to the Cirrus interesting. A lot is made about speed comparisons, fuel burn, cargo etc where it looks like the Ovation comes out slight ahead and as he notes, probably due to the retract landing gear. But I wonder about cost comparisons and utility of having fixed gear versus retract. It might be worth giving up slight extra speed advantage to have fixed gear. Russ
  19. Mike, I sent you a PM with contact info for a couple of Houston area guys but I had forgotten about Stephen Masters, former Mooney factory pilot and I believe he resides in Delaware. His name should pop up on Google. He used to live in the Woodlands. He did my transition in my first Mooney years ago and does this sort of thing all the time. Russ
  20. Nice gifts! Santa just dropped off a replica of my plane. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Erik, when is the reveal?
  22. One of the best Mooney paint jobs I have seen. I was going to copy it before selling the J. Russ
  23. Mark, here are some recent notes. What MP are you seeing? Induction leak could lose some MP. ROP 8000 +100 11C 23.3 2450 17.3gph 176kts LOP 8000 -35 12C 22.2 2450 13.2gph 172kts LOP 9000 -20 10C 21.3 2450 13.0gph 171kts ROP 10000 +100 6C 20.8 2450 17.0gph 175kts LOP 9000 -10 11C 21.4 2450 12.9gph 173kts Russ
  24. Paul suggested to me that could be due to the fact that the factory tie wraps the probe leads to the plug wires. I see the same thing although sometimes sporadic. Russ
  25. ...just added pictures. Fresh overhaul on 800 hour prop.
