Mini HUD is an Alpha AOA.

Stick one on that beautiful Acclaim. I looked it over while you were working. Very nice!

I recently swapped out my Hartzell prop for the MT composite 4 blade and have had a chance to fly it a bit and thought I would post a report on what I have observed. Special thanks to Erik B. and Scott S. who provided me counseling on their experiences. By the way, my Hartzell is listed for sale with a complete overhaul. Buying Process - I ordered mine from Flight Resources. The delivery took 4 weeks, 1/2 down up front and 1/2 when it ships from Germany. You must have the prop shipped to a MT authorized prop shop for final assembly. I had mine shipped to Jordan Propeller in San Antonio. From there, the prop shop can deliver the prop to your A&P for installation and balance. It is recommended that you have the prop balanced. The spinner is a composite material and I had mine painted Matterhorn White to match the plane. Years ago most piston props were delivered with stainless leading edges. The restrictions to paint choices in Germany had many MT props shedding paint. The turbine application is for a nickel leading edge which wraps around longer and covers more of the prop. Also the paint formula has been modified and is much better in regards to wear and tear than the earlier props. Today, most pistons (like mine) have nickel edges and the new paint formula. Sound and Ergonomics - as mentioned elsewhere the prop is very quiet and smooth. It is German so I will say it is similar to driving a German engineered car. There is a certain smoothness and solid feel that I seem to get in the Mooney. Not to take anything away from other manufacturers but the prop does seem to maintain tight tolerances that are felt in the plane. Taxi, cruise and all aspects of flight seem to be much more quiet. Performance- I have one trip of 4 hours each way to pirep the prop. Takeoff performance is better although I do not have the hard data. The transfer of power from your power adjustments is instantaneous it feels. Moving to full throttle has no spool up time, its just gets there. Same for power reductions. No over speed conditions. I am still trying to get before and after take off distances and climb. Today I was climbing at 1100 fpm at 120 knots and 2500 rpm. I saw 700 fpm at 145 kts, 2500 rpm in a cruise climb. In cruise it is hard to tell but I think it may be the same speeds. I have logged many speeds and at some settings I was a knot faster but at others I was equal to the Hartzell. I do not feel I lost any speed with the 4 blades. 9000 ft, LOP -30, 12C, 21.6MP 2450rpm 12.9 gph at 171kts 9000 ft, ROP +100 12C 21.7MP 2450rpm 17.2gph at 177kts 8000 ft LOP -40 11C 22.5MP 2450rpm 13.6gph at 172kts 8000 ft ROP +100 11C 22.6MP 2450rpm 17.8gph at 176kts I am still getting used to landings. I have to carry a bit more power now to maintain 80kts on final. It used to be 12-13" and now it is over 13". The prop does seem to have a kind of braking effect when you twist it to the stops. I slow down very quickly but if you twist it to the stops while flaring it will stop flying so a lot of the float has been eliminated. Weight and Balance - Empty weight dropped around 30lbs and CG moved about 1.25" aft. (I left my POH in the hangar so don't quote me on those numbers) I put together a video to show the sound inside and out and also the look. Be gentle with me, I am not a producer. Russ Russ

Andrew, this may be a silly question but did the MSC change the airframe type on the config options page of the PFD setup? I am not familiar with the Acclaim but switching mine from Ovation 2 to Ovation 3 changed the graphic of the tach to show 2700. Not sure what choices there are for the Acclaim. Type S? Russ

Selling my Hartzell M20R propeller model PHCJ3YF-1RF. It was installed in June of 2008 and has about 800 hrs. It was new at the time to replace the factory original which had a strike. The prop has been completely overhauled by Jordan Propeller with new seals, paint, etc. Logs books accompany the sale. It is stored at KHYI San Marcos. If you like you can fly in there and have it installed on your plane as an option by a Mooney MSC. PM me for more details. Asking $8000. Fresh overhaul completed, see pictures. Russ

Haven’t heard about the cracks. There is a large adoption rate for turbines currently. I am putting a 4 blade on in a couple of weeks. MS’ser, Cirrus guys all reporting good things. My 9 rear old 3 blade Hartzell will be overhauled and repainted if anyone is interested. Russ

I see over 27.5. Russ

Lee, something tells me you may be a guy I was supposed to ferry for pick up your plane with Mark? If not, ignore. Give me a call. My bird was the first guinea pig for this upgrade. Brian Kendrick figured out the process. You have to boot with old GIA’s to a point the swap out with the new GIA’s to complete. Russ

Lee, do yourself a favor and read up on the previous thread about calibration. The instructions speak of changing the probe angle of attack 10 degrees at a time between test flights. Go ahead and set it full forward for the Mooney wing and avoid all of the test flights. Russ

Ok Jeff and Buddy I am a believer. I bought a sheet of Lexan from Lowes and used the door to trace and copy. Very strong signal now. Probably the biggest issue with the GTX in the long body is that it is mounted perpendicular to the cockpit. (sorry I do not know how to upload portait) Russ

Thanks guys. I did some research, called both Garmin and XM. They both said send a refresh. I have never had this issue in over 4 years in the plane or any of my cars. It is strange, like a light switch, one flight it works, the next it doesn't. There is a screen on the AUX page where you view XM music channels. I did not realize but there is an INFO soft button that shows the status of your aviation weather subscription and signal. I sent a refresh and mine showed strong signal. I then pressed the lock button and now I have weather again. If you don't lock it, you still won't see the weather even though you have a signal. Russ

I thought I saw a thread where someone suddenly didn't have XM for an area they were flying. Today I flew one leg of a trip this morning with full XM weather on the G-1000. On the return trip I had no XM. On the weather page it said "waiting on data". I called XM when I landed and they said I should try refreshing the signal. Why? It worked hours earlier and for the last 4 years. I had to rely on FIS-B weather on the iPad. Russ

Don't mean to be nosey but what do you zoom on the PFD?
-
The range knob is a plastic "thimble" of sorts that is covered in a glued on rubber cover. The plastic knob can crack which causes it to spin on the metal joystick. At least this is what happened to mine. I bet you can pull it off if it is cracked. Try swapping the knob with the MFD temporarily. Get with a Garmin dealer to order a set of knobs for $110 I think. You have to buy a full set for either a PFD or MFD. Russ

You asked and it shall be done....haha just got this from Mooney from an earlier request. As for the POH, no misprints, type-o’s or carry-overs. There is defiantly a difference between the Ovation and the Acclaim but the chief test pilot told me what you are seeing is normal for the Ovation and he has gone through the certification program for both aircraft. I agree it is on the high side I/A/W the POH but obviously well below red line.

Great new analysis tool at Savy. I really appreciate their support and information. Jeff, I am going to try to paste your result next to mine. Jeff Russ Jeff Russ Jeff Russ Jeff Russ I have the pixie hole for #5. Jeff Russ Jeff Russ Here's one that has me puzzled. The operating manual said normal PSI is 30-60. However mine usually runs 63-66. The pick below is one of the strongest PSI's I see. However you can see that I am mid way through the green on the G-1000 display. What is everyone else seeing for PSI? Why would the Acclaim POH say that normal oil pressure is 30-100 vs Ovation 30-60? Russ

Jeff, I opened a ticket with Savy. 33 flights loaded, Pro user. I jacked the plane up and put bags over the gear and the water came in but never got close. Heading back today to take remove the jacks. I will post my report to compare to yours when they fix the issue. Russ

Jeff, I have the same airframe but when I select reports and the new beta it says not available for my plane. How did you generate the report? Russ

Yes, thanks for asking. The water only came up to the front jack and not anywhere on the plane or the things in my hanger. That last big flood came up much higher. I think we are in the clear here in Houston now at David Wayne Hooks as the forecast calls for more clearing. The water seems to be receding around the airport. Russ

Precautions for impending hurricane?
Txbyker replied to carusoam's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Fortunately, the water line was just like the pic and therefore no damage. However if yours did get wet call Andrew Francis. PM me and I will provide you his private cell. He hangers near me on K and is an A&P, IA and could do the work in your hangar. Russ -
Precautions for impending hurricane?
Txbyker replied to carusoam's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
That's what mine looked like after the "Tax Day" floods, thus my reason for jacking it up with bags on the gear. I hope it didn't go much higher and I hope your home is safe. Russ -
Precautions for impending hurricane?
Txbyker replied to carusoam's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I am at L16 and water was at the door at 8AM. I posted on another thread about prepping. Good ideas made including tying trash bags on your landing gear. Mine is on jacks resting on 2x4's and bags on the gear as well. Russ
