  1. Your guy is flying in the face of Lycoming “ideally, this procedure is to be done in a test cell where operating conditions can be closely monitored. If the engine is operated in a test cell, the engine must have intercylinder baffles, a cooling shroud, and a test club installed for engine Revolution Per Minute (RPM) requirements. If a test cell is not available, use a test stand with a test club and a cooling shroud for the engine test.” Source https://www.lycoming.com/sites/default/files/Lycoming Reciprocating engine Break-In and Oil Consumption.pdf
  2. Who is building the engine?
  3. I would be really concerned about running an Engine at high manifold pressure without some kind of air deflector or scoop on top of it to force air through the fins.
  4. That’s a Hoskins wingtip strobe, the Hoskins boxes have been out of production for a couple of decades now, but you can morph a Whelen strobe box to work with it, tou gotta repin the strobe side connector…. the strobe tube can also morph and aeroflash tube by cutting it down enough to fit it inside of the lens, or building up a Whelen tube, and the plastic lens can be replaced with a Piper tail light lens
  5. I think the original Springs had an infinite service life as it should, and the replacement batches are the ones that are defective
  6. That might be too easy, David !
  7. No, they have built-in GPSS roll steering so that part is fantastic!!
  8. The blue style take 3 o-rings. It’s either two -10 and one -11 or vice verse. But cheap and easy.
  9. One big hurdle is that you can’t use STC data for the field approval. And developing your own data for an autopilot field approval install I couldn’t imagine how much it would take. A lot.
  10. The only 3308s people want are the latest software version with a429 everything.
  11. The very cheapest model 3 is 48,490. They have taken a huge leap upwards in the past year or so
  12. If you Figure the cap cost of a 60-70k car, the opex is cheaper by far, but the capex of the 60-70k vehicle more than exceeds the total cost of the Miata. It’s cooler. It’s not close to being cheaper.
  13. Problem is that SIRS doesn’t sell the Mooney mount anymore
  14. Are you sure that rod is cracked? Magnaflux will tell you for sure, that’s the way engine shops check them.
  15. I’ve done a couple of these at the shop now. Really, if you’re going to own one of these things long-term or you going to look at buying one, pulling all the lifters and looking at all of them is really the smart thing to do here. Last one was a 600 hours since overhaul and 12 years ago, and eight of the 12 lifters had minor but distinct pitting and rust. luckily the cam was OK.
  16. Jose wants $100,000 for the STC but there’s only a couple hundred airplanes that’s are eligible for the conversion, most have already done it. So do the math…..
  17. It was definitely an engine issue, and single engine was not a problem, and the props were both balanced too and it still did it.
  18. It was probably a split between vastly decreased airline revenue passenger mile income, and the 737 max liability and payouts. Plus that Nashville tornado. None of which have to do with Mooney’s or age
  19. How does this unit compare to the Xevision 50W HID I’m still using? I’m still using this thing and it’s pretty bright
  20. The M20J Lord mounts have gel packs, but the twin Comanche ones do not. But it still fixed the shudder. It was the worst I ever saw, as the engines come into phase the plane would shake at some kind of amplified magnitude you think the tail is going to come off it was almost dangerous.
  21. A clients twin Comanche had this annoying shudder and resonant vibration. Related to rpm. 100 hours on engines and props. New Barry mounts. Balanced props. New lord mounts solved it.
  22. How thick are your Lycoming VC gaskets?
  23. GFC500 fixes the century 21 every time
  24. Aero accessories of Van Nuys.
