  1. every time the engine is overhauled or a prop strike, yes they must be replaced. But not if the case is split, per se
  2. You forgot the part where the cylinders overheat and the rings lose tension in 500 hours and you have to redo it again. Same as the sparrowhawk 152 conversion.
  3. I wouldn’t put anything other than DLC or roller lifters in an engine these days. But that certainly looks like lifter fragments. It could be Cascades to embed it metal in the bearings, score crank, trash oil pump, scored cylinders. That metal does a number. To top it all off, new cylinders are 6 to 9 months out lead time. And if you call triad for example, and say hey I want to send my engine to you for an overhaul you’re not going to get it for nine months.
  4. If I recall, the Hartzell top prop BA prop is required for the STC which adds 10 or 12 grand to the price of a new power plant installation. If you already need a new prop then it’s probably not that big of a deal but if yours is good it’s quite a shock of extra cash.
  5. If that’s in a fiberglass part you’re wanting to fill it, you can do this easily with West systems Epoxy and microballoons. That stuff is really tenacious and it’s flexible without cracking. I’ve use the stuff pretty extensively there’s a lot of it on my plane but you can’t tell where it is because it doesn’t crack.
  6. There FIFY !
  7. Garmin ate king snd s-tec is next.
  8. I seriously don’t get the thing of insisting that customers fund their R&D. That’s not how this works. I tried to talk to them at Oshkosh about this and they were very belligerent, almost to the point of being hostile and combative about their beloved auto pilot and I’m like look Garmin is going to eat you guys completely, you have to get products to market and they trailed off with some mumbo-jumbo about how they certified more airframes first than Garmin did and I’m like yeah well that was then and this is now and you guys have no follow on product and your old product is hopelessly obsolete so what are you gonna do? Thanks and they were like ours is better I’m like does it have VNAV from top of descent? Does it have a smart glide? Does it have some sort of canvas where you have a four wire pair to connect every box? I just saw this at the Garmin tent 30 minutes ago. And then they got even more belligerent I’m like this is not how this goes.I wish somebody would tell them they’re all going to be looking for a job in three years but that’s about how much longer this company is going to exist. But you know what they did it to themselves… they VASTLY underestimated the competition and then doubled down on ignorance. Said they have not heard anything bad on the Internet about them I’m like you know I have not visited mooney space or beach talk or Facebook or anywhere else? My client has a twin Comanche, it’s probably 15-20 PA30 guys on the boards and also mumbling about having to pay 10 grand upfront for a fucking auto pilot whenever you know Garmin has a twin Comanche in the shop now so you know my client has $100,000 worth of radios in his panel, and would have bought the 3100 a year ago if it was available, but now he’s going with a gfc500.
  9. If you call back and explain you just need it fixed they may help you. They just can’t issue an 8130. But repairs are not the same thing as overhauled
  10. Thermo-Tec 13575 Adhesive Backed... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00029KC2K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
  11. Yes, thanks for the correction. Its a great idea.
  12. I’ve used TSM and it kills exhaust residue. Wear gloves pls.
  13. Check that tank at top of descent. Then there is no switching tanks low to the ground.
  14. So it appears that but for the Nashville tornado, they would’ve made $50 million in profits last year
  15. Simple green extreme and that stuff are basically the same thing. Look at the MSDS, and look at the pH. Still, it kills paint
  16. What makes you say that? The retread tires meet the TSO for tires which also includes the dimensions.
  17. Look up that Boeing BMS spec for extreme simple green aircraft formula, and tell me what it says. It is a spec for aircraft bare metal corrosion, but there is no guarantee it won’t trash or paint. It just cost us $20,000 to have the airplane repainted, no big deal I guess, but extreme simple green is what killed it. Here is the real litmus test, get on a creeper and get under it and wash the Belly off, it takes the grease right off, but when that simple green runs down your arm into your armpit it burns with the fury. Ask yourself what you’re putting on your plane. If you wouldnt put it on your Porsche 911 Turbo, don’t put it on your airplane either.
  18. Simple green.
  19. Check the p/n of the solenoid. Battery master solenoids look the same but may not be rated for the amps of a starter
  20. We used to use that until it destroyed our paint. If you aren’t rinsing it off with plenty of water it’s corroding the aluminum at the seams as well.
  21. I’ve had one of these in my plane for 10 years and it works great with a 1-axis auto pilot. It’s about to come out for a GFC500
  22. Fit perfect and wear like iron.
  23. Probably because the shop told him to send it to the prop shop down the street, and they ground the blades to limits and then declared it unairworthy. But that’s just me
