As others of said, just install the EDM-830 for now. Or better yet, if not upgrading from a older 700, go directly to a TSO'd for primary EDM-900 so you can eliminate airframe dependence on factory gauges. Once you have your new monitor installed created a free SavvyAnalysis Account on SavvyAviation.com to upload and analyse your data. https://www.savvyaviation.com/free-stuff/ Then fly the Savvy Analysis Test Profile https://resources.savvyaviation.com/resources/other-documents/flight-test-profile/ If you do want to fly LOP, the gami spread size is only half of what is needed. Its just as important to evaluate your ignition and ensure its in good enough health to fire LOP without premature misfire. LOP stresses the ignition system much more than ROP and many find eventhough they have the gami spread to support LOP, that their ignition system is in need of maintenance. Its also typically the first to get out of tolerance. After you fly the Savvy Test profile of sweeps and LOP Mag test, you can use Savvy's free online tools to evaluate your data and see what size spread you have as well as evaluate your ignition. But make sure you first change the EDM data sampling rate from its default of every 6 sec to every 1 or 2 sec. (I recommend every 1 sec). Odds are that you won't need gami injectors, only very few Lyc IO-360's ever due (~10%) but almost every 6 cyl engine needs tuned injectors to keep the spread within 0.5 GPH.

The Wx-500 maybe old technology, but its the most modern spheric device out there and hasn't been displaced by satellite weather IMO since its real time. I know I don't want to leave home without it!

For starters, a pilot flying under the open pilot clause isn't insured at all - just the owner! That just means the owner is still covered if another pilot has an accident but the other pilot better have their own insurance when owners insurance company subrogates again them for damages. But being a named insured makes the pilot covered by the owners policy just like the owner. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'd suggest reviewing your invoice to see if they installed the newer style cylinder drains P/N 655742 on all 6 cylinders. Its possible if its was more recently overhauled then it already has these drains, but more likely not. The newer style drains are part of the CSB and allow more prime fuel into the cylinders before it drains out. Important since the priming system no longer injects fuel into the upper induction tubes but directly into the cylinders via the fuel injectors. If priming fuel is quickly going overboard it suggest you may still have the old style cylinder drains which only allow about half the priming fuel before it drains out. If you don't find the new style part no in your invoice suggest you pull one of them to confirm the part # and if not the new style then you'll wan to order them. But this is just my guess, since it should be starting normally.

You're a little late dealing with this. Its been out there for awhile (2019) and this is the second version. But glad you got it done before the diverter caused you a big problem. But perhaps most likely you're a recent purchaser that just inherited deferred maintenance. Bur no, absolutely no effects on the fuel setup. That said, the diverter valve's purpose was to aid in cold starts, very cold starts though. Cold enough you should also be using an engine heater. And when cold they need more fuel so be sure your giving it enough fuel to start and thus you might try some experimenting after reviewing the table of recommends seconds of prime based on temperature. I hope you enjoy your 231.

Short vs mid body Mooney differences for a new buyer?
kortopates replied to skyfarer's topic in General Mooney Talk
Depends on whether you want to pay a bit extra for the much added capabilities for going faster and higher above the weather. Got to be willing to fly with a cannula or mask. But once a Turbo pilot always a Turbo pilot. At least I would never go back. There have been countless trips I wouldn't have been able to do that the Turbo made it a non-issue by getting above it all. -

I turned down the BT option for an extra couple hundred and then sorta regretted it after. But I really like your solution will proably get one of those. -

I am pretty sure its a real Wifi SD card exactly as you suggest. Garmin had a lot of problems with the earlier FS-510 needing to return 1 to 2 our of 3 before they had the issues resolved. Hard to imagine a hidden file would cause that kind of grief. Incidentally, reformating the Garmin WiFi SD card is common Garmin directed task when their are file issues on the card. Done it several times successfully, years ago. -
Short vs mid body Mooney differences for a new buyer?
kortopates replied to skyfarer's topic in General Mooney Talk
What @201er said above, and just about every successive year of production their were improvements to the models including Vspeeds which are more important to instrument pilots. So additionally, get the latest model you can afford for better enhancements. Just one example, short bodys cruise level in the yellow arc if not very high, mid bodies have a higher yellow arc. But that's just one example and perhaps more important differences are flap and gear V speed differences and many other important differences will be panel layout differences between the Vintage short and mid-bodies; especially when comparing to an original "shotgun" panel to a more modern layout. -

You can purchase replacement control modules that have the cord plug and microphone. Easy to replace - 2 screws. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Agreed, and since I have never operated the GTN without the FS-510 card I don't know the answer either - whether its storing the standby database on the card or internally. But since it refers to the card on the database page it makes me think its using the card but never tried to verify. But that seems counter to what you found in the documentation, so I am curious.

But the Flight Stream card is also an SD card that you can format and write files to directly (without using WiFi). It contains the database files just like a SD card would. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Parts for brakes on the right side
kortopates replied to kommers's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
10-24D were used years later for the larger double puck brakes systems on the longbody's and the Encore but have been out of production for years, they were a proprietary MC made only for Mooney - they're hard to find but Mooney has been using newer MC's for years. -

all part #’s are listed in your airframe IPC, but you’ll find almost all except for master cylinders are Mooney specific parts. after you build up a list of parts, your most affordable source will probably be salvage yards. For older vintage mooney there are plenty of salvage mooney’s. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Local interference or jamming most likely. bring up the satellite page next time - it will show zero satellites being received when it’s interference or jamming. we would have to loose several satellites before we had an “outage” and then we would see our position degrade from 3d to 2d - not going to happen. there are 32 of them up there IIRC. Mixture Rich or Best for ground ops
kortopates replied to Mooney-Shiner's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
no need for 2000; especially with an engine monitor since you can see each plug fire independently- that’s the best information you can get from a run up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
For 1.2 AMU after your EDM Core credit for the 730, you can upgrade your prehistoric 730 to a modern color display EDM-830. Spruce and some others sell the head display as a upgrade and then return your 730 for core credit. They are plug compatible and all you need is enough space somewhere for the larger display. But at the cost of engines these days and all the benefits of a modern analyzer they are so very worth it. With a 830, you can add new sensors like MAP and RPM for just the cost of the sensors and installation. Its still not a tso'd for primary unit, but at a fraction of cost of a primary approved unit with most of the functionality.

Everyone has it wrong about Unusable Fuel
kortopates replied to SpamPilot's topic in General Mooney Talk
Mooney’s equipment list includes every conceivable piece of equipment with the arm and weight too. what year did they weight your plane with full fuel? once the tanks have had maintenance it’s doubtful they hold precisely the same amount of fuel they originally did and it seems folks fill there tanks to different “full” levels. Instrument Procedures for Mexico and Canada

Although I am a GP user, rather than FF expert likr yourself, I can find my way around FF from working with my students. But I also know Jepp very well and confident that you don't need to buy your Jepp subscrption through FF. So once you do buy a digital trip kit for Mexico through Jepp, all you should need to do is give FF your credentials and FF will recognize the your Jepp subscriotion and enable you to download the Mex charts (or whatever coverage you have) until the subscription expires if that's one month or 1 year. Is this exacty how it works on any other app that Jepp works with so I'd expect FF to be the same. Jepp was doing this long before FF came along.
