I like the second door they should have put it in 50 years ago. Price I think is a big issue for many pilots who are not buying the plane for their personal business travel and can write off the expenses. Mooney is trying to organize partnerships which is great but getting pilots together is like herding cats and for me it would have to be a 6 or greater partners to make it work. Full electronic ignition and fuel injection would be great. As mentioned above I think subbing out components to other facilities that can capitalize on automation in manufacturing could save many hours of hand forming parts like the tube frame, landing gear etc. CNC machines could cut and robot welded with minimal assistance from workers could increase quality and decrease costs especially if subbed out a little or no investment in machinery. I think the tail cones wings and other components could largely be riveted by robots as some underutilized plant with the advantage of every rivet being photographed and cataloged. As for the panel I prefer an all electronic modular type approach opposed to the full glass G1000 approach but that is me. Finally I know the economics don't work but bring back and offer the J air frame with a TNIO360 on it and manual gear. Would increase production of similar components for both lines. Economies of scale start working for you. Better yet offer a EXJ as a fast build kits even a EX10J. Rivet one skin on the tail cone, rivet ailerons, elevators and rudder and assemble the kit. Mechanical gear, flaps, and you control what avionics you want on it. Maybe this would be a place to try new alloys for the current 4130 steel components as well s other improvements. Pressurization would be nice but pressurizing a square box does not work very well. Just my thoughts

that is my cross country machine.

real neat interesting overview. Could have been useful in one of the seminars at Mooney Summit.
-
I have an extra retractable from an E model but you would not want to go through the trouble of putting that in a J.
-
cool nice video so we can know more about overhauling these engines.

Owner supplied parts is all you need to say.

I have heard o these belts before but have never used them. In the case of a broken belt this may be a very good way to get home especially if there is no mechanic on the field.

New pilot looking for some Moony time in Tampa Bay
1964-M20E replied to Albatros's topic in Florida Mooney Flyers
Not that it matters for you but if you had complex or high performance time before August 4, 1997 you do not need a sign off according to the regs. Not withstanding what the insurance company requires. 61.31 e 2 (complex) (2) The training and endorsement required by paragraph (e)(1) of this section is not required if the person has logged flight time as pilot in command of a complex airplane, or in a flight simulator or flight training device that is representative of a complex airplane prior to August 4, 1997. 61.31 f 2 (high performance) (2) The training and endorsement required by paragraph (f)(1) of this section is not required if the person has logged flight time as pilot in command of a high-performance airplane, or in a flight simulator or flight training device that is representative of a high-performance airplane prior to August 4, 1997. -

If you are planning on upgrade to a GPS decide what system you want to go with Avidyne or Garmin. Then get the ADSB out transponder compatible for that GPS. Might save you some hassle later on. Some are not yet ready to play with others i.e. STCs not completely done yet. I have the Avidyne IFD540 APX322 remote transponder combination. Also I have a functioning GTX327 Garmin transponder I pulled for my new install if you are interested contact me we can discuss the financials.

While not for the air races I have flown into EYE on a number of occasions they usually have a cab there in about 15 to 20 minutes. I have not tried to get a rental because i am usually there only for 2 nights and spend mos of the time at the hotel for meetings.

Mike If the attendees are agreeable put their MS handle on the name tags as well. It would make putting a face with the make easier.

Did they announce the avidyne winner?
1964-M20E replied to peevee's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Simpson Thanks to Avidyne for having John at the Mooney Summit with the IFD550. While he was speaking I was demonstrating and selling for him. -
Mike once again a good presentation thanks to you and your team. I heard the Tyndall guys make a comment about 60 Moonies all trying to leave at the same time.
-
Leaving yesterday I heard Tyndall approach say there were 60 Moonies and they were trying to leave at the same time. It was quite hectic.

I can't stop fidgeting....... What should I do????
1964-M20E replied to xcrmckenna's topic in General Mooney Talk
You will always find something on these old birds. Stick with your decision and move on find another one especially since the current owner is not willing to move on his price. If he was wiling to go to something like $60k maybe. -
How do you make long flights comfortable? Headrests?
1964-M20E replied to Oliver's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Once I am at altitude and everything is OK is push the seat back take may shoes off and settle in to first class on flights longer that 1.5 hours. Sometimes the flight attendant will pass beverages and snacks around the cabin. -
Sometimes you just need to feel bad. cough! cough!
