  1. not sure I know what you mean. I think this took place near your neck of the woods.
  2. Flying, hands down. I rode for years, but that was before texting and driving became a competition among drivers.
  3. I think not having the johnson bar makes a difference. I noticed in yours and @Aerodon's pics, the center stack starts lower. Almost even with the bottoms of the yoke shafts. It looks to be almost an inch difference.
  4. I see what everyone is saying. I didn't realize the bar forks at the bottom to form a "Y". It's going to be tight.
  5. I'm not sure, but I just paid to have the gtx 345 installed.
  6. thanks. The audio panel is 7", but that's 2" less than the transponder. I'll just have to look under the glare shield and see what kind of space I have.
  7. Thanks, that stack goes up pretty high. What autopilot is that so I can look up its dimensions. I guess without the johnson bar, the prop and mixture cables can be dropped lower. Nevermind, I realize it's a garmin 500. Do you remember roughly how deep the GFC 500 controller is? I can't find anything.
  8. you're right. It's almost a 3 inch difference. Thanks
  9. The AI is just a hole filler for right now. That will leave me with the Stec head unit, the turn coordinator and stormscope. I looked into the 500, but it's a lot of $$ when I already have a 1000. Of course, the integration would be nice.
  10. I went ahead and doubled down on my aspen setup. Got the 3rd screen to have a dedicated ADSB. My panel is a work in progress with little bites at a time. On my flight back from the avionics shop, I realized that I don't like the panels shifted so far to the left. I originally was going to put a 930 to the immediate right, but I think I"m going to go with the 930 on the copilot side. I sat in Bob B's plane, and it looked pretty good to me. Anyway, will my transponder fit above the audio panel? The shop thought there may not be enough depth for the tray. Worst case, I can put the 930 and transponder on the far right, but I thought it would look cleaner with the transponder in the center stack. This would allow me to move the Aspen panels to a more centered position on the pilot side with the storm scope/Stec on either side of them. The stec turn coordinator could be hidden if necessary. Obviously, the DME will get pulled.
  11. I'd tend to agree with that statement. I can feel my Aspen's during flight and they're warm. Definitely more than 115F. I don't think 120F is anything that most materials would have trouble handling. It's the ionizing UV.
  12. a hangar buddy across from me stepped up from a 172RG to a 310. He's loved every minute of it, especially the increased speed and load.
  13. Same here my engine is '65 but majored in '98, also.
  14. Nice. Even after installing my second Aspen panel, I still used the old ASI. Just changing the scan took time.
  15. How much will it haul?
  16. Funny you say that. IMO the mid bodies have the best esthetic balance. I feel like my plane looks a little stubby, especially when parked on a ramp with other planes. The long bodies look a bit too stretched. Just my opinion.
  17. Nice. I thought dynon displayed the engine monitor on the 10". Did you just want a cleaner field on the PFD? BTW, do you know how the Dynon AP plays with other units, or is it a Dynon only setup like Garmin?
  18. As long as there is another person alive on this planet, I have someone to blame.
  19. Thanks for all the info. I knew you guys wouldn't disappoint. My schedule is pretty tight until mid-late October. Any red flags or advice for that time of year, especially closer to the west coast?
  20. I've read a lot of people got frustrated with recent issues, but everyone seems to agree that Aspen sticks with you until the problem is solved. Andy has been responsive to my questions on several occasions. Hopefully you'll be satisfied when this is over.
  21. Have you had the firmware updated on the Aspen? I heard that helped with the bulk of the failure issues. Knock on wood, my have been pretty rock solid.
  22. Sent you my info via email. Let me know if you don't see it.
  23. No kidding. I assumed yours was a 28v system. I'll look into it again. I based my statement on some stuff I had googled. You know if it's on the internet, it has to be true.
  24. A buddy wants me to fly with him to move his cirrus sr22 (NA) from middle Georgia to San Diego. He'd fly me back to Atlanta commercial. How hard a trip is it? I'm self employed so taking random days off isn't something I do often. Is flying Friday and Saturday, returning Sunday reasonable, or does that sound a little rushed? Thanks.
  25. Thanks. I checked those out, and I believe someone said a 14v system just doesn't have enough juice. Otherwise, I probably would have done the same.
