  1. From what I've read, the plastic indicator can be difficult to repair. When ours broke off we had the trim and flap indicators changed out with the factory replacement during its annual when the belly panels were removed. The new units consist of cables with a cap at the end. Not sure how this picture will display, but this is what it looks like.
  2. Is this one of the same?
  3. His predecessor said of the White House "what a dump".
  4. So let get this straight.. a friend of yours, who is a secret agent, told you sensitive, classified information and you informed all of us here at MS of it. Is he of the James Bond, George Smiley or Austin Powers type? Any neurologists out there to confirm that anti-dementia treatments are available in Delaware?
  5. This is to be expected. When 45 was constantly down here he would make stops along the way in the state and TFR’s were setup before the schedules were set in concrete, resulting in many conflicts and overlapping TFR’s. Then all of a sudden, they changed or disappeared entirely.
  6. Past presidents don’t get the privilege, only the current.
  7. Not as rough as our TFR here in South Florida, where there former president spent over 250 days at Mar-a-Lago, many of those were weeks at a time during the winter. While my home drome was inside the 30 mile ring, and we pretty much had operations as usual. Lantana Airport, in the ten mile ring, got hit hard due to a large number of flight schools there.
  8. I seem to remember this too, it took some futzing around with the low level port setting to finally get it to work, which is the reason I eventually forked over the bucks and got the Download Box, just as PT20J did. Thus far it's never failed me.
  9. I'm a few miles outside of Hollywood and would say without hesitation that I would rather swelter in the summer than freeze in the winter. But in all fairness, down here we live indoors for 6 months out of the year just as you do, except those months are reversed. I'll take 91 degrees and 60% humidity summers in favor of 82 degrees and 35% humidity during the winter months any day
  10. I won't recount the entire story now (it can be found somewhere here on MS), but about seven years ago I had a runaway trim situation that was scary has heck because I couldn't figure out what caused it. A few weeks later the same thing happened, this time I realized it occurred when using the trim switch. I eventually noticed that the nose down position was sticking, eventually resulting in my replacing the switch. Ever since that incident I keep my hand on the trim wheel making sure it stops.
  11. The air data computer is fed by the magnetometer only.
  12. Exactly the reason I fly American Airlines to Cancun.
  13. Thus far the president hasn't removed the steel and aluminum tariffs. I'm sure that could help the situation.
  14. Anybody notice that Flightaware now charges a fee for overlaying aviation charts (ie, VFR, low altitude IFR)?
  15. Gotcha! The job was done in my hangar. Remove 1 hour.
  16. Would it take 8 to 10 hours?
  17. Don't know Dan and this is the first I've heard of him, but this happened to me a few years ago and I wrote about it here at the time. Just as I was about to touch down a Cessna decided to cross the runway from a perpendicular taxiway and the flaps would not retract. It was a harrowing, very sluggish go-around on a hot day but we made it. In the end I believe it was the relay.
  18. I feel your pain. My home drome is 25 miles from Mar-a-Lago, and he was down here for weeks at a time during the winters. We all learned to adapt, and it became old hand after a while, the only restriction being that we couldn't "loiter" (ie, no practice approaches or air work). We had to make a beeline for the outer ring and do all of our practice work from afar. A VFR flight plan was a must, even though we didn't activate it.
  19. I read accident reports intently and with a careful eye because there is always something to be learned from them if the investigators were able to come to a reasonable conclusion (sometimes they simply can't). One of the many items that I take to heart is the experience of some of the pilots, many are ATP's with thousands of hours, yet some of them found themselves in situations that they couldn't overcome, and that concerns me to no end. Of course there are dozens of VFR pilots who get in over their head when encountering IMC, but the ones that strike me are the incidents involving well seasoned pilots and I ask myself how it could possibly happen, yet they do.
  20. Exactly the information I was looking for, thanks.
  21. 1 amu for the unit and install or for labor only?
  22. My humble apologies. The cost of replacing a TC is about $1k versus $7-8k for a GI 275. When the thread evolved into true airspeed versus calibrated, I knew things had gone off course.
  23. Spot on. If the two -275's didn't have independent AHRS, the second unit would have been rendered useless. My partners and I are now looking into a second GI 275 for the HSI and we are insisting that the unit have its own AHRS separate from the current ADI.
  24. Please people, stick to the original post. This was one question where topic creep is not appreciated.
