  1. Looking at the FlightAware Track Log, his decent was extremely smooth in terms of rate and speed. Autopilot? Would also have liked to have heard the entire letdown, not just highlights.
  2. I can understand your reluctance to name the shop, but I agree with others that the FSDO should be informed.
  3. Last week I took a flight and everything worked just fine on the GTN 750. On the return flight I got a message upon startup that the Terrain and FlightChart databases were unavailable. Huh, they worked just fine an hour earlier. Fast-forward to today. Using the Garmin Database Manager desktop App, I did a full reinstall, which included Navigation, Terrain, Safetaxi, Obstacles and FlightCharts. I separately loaded two cards, one formatted, the other not, just as an experiment. Everything loaded except Terrain and FlightCharts, regardless of the card I used. Anybody else experience this?
  4. I was taught in the 80's to use PAN-PAN-PAN to clear the airwaves when the frequency is crowded and you need to get the controllers attention in an emergency. Anybody else told that?
  5. Whaaa? Tiled bathrooms, air conditioning. Carpet??
  6. But if I had my druthers, I’d listen the the low frequency rumble of radial engines all day. The B-29 was a real treat.
  7. Note to self.. next time bring ear plugs for demonstrations that utilize afterburners.
  8. I went up for the day on Saturday in a friends Skylane, since he has a dozen shows under his belt and knows the procedure very well. This was my first time flying in and it was quite an interesting experience. We entered the holding area above Lake Hancock, flying just hundreds of feet away from the plane in front of us, around and around. There must have been 20 planes flying circles around the lake. Once the airport opened, we flew to the power plant and followed the Bonanza in front of us all the way to downwind, base and final, where we aimed for the orange circle, again just feet away from the plane in front of us, all while taxiing at high speed until the end of the runway. Getting out was just as exhilarating. Once the airshow finished at 5:00, it was a made rush to get out of there. As we lined up to get to the active, I stopped counting at 55 planes ahead of us. We were marshaled onto the runway, two abreast with two planes directly in front of us. Since the takeoffs were staggered, it posed no problems. I must say, the controllers that the airport uses for the event are the cream of the crop.
  9. It has to be related to the latest update to the GTN. The Connext/Flightstream system had been bulletproof up until January of last year, which by no coincidence is when I had the software updated to 6.60.
  10. With the problem I have, I can't remove the pairing connection from the GTN side because the Connext button is disabled.
  11. Not the same issue I'm reporting. When this happens to me, the Connext button on the SYSTEM menu is disabled and grayed out. The result of this is that no traffic appears on the iPad. Then out of nowhere (anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes in the air), traffic suddenly appears and when I see it I immediately go to the Connext button and find that it's enabled.
  12. No resolution. When I sent a support request to Garmin, the response was to check the wiring of the GTN.
  13. Exactly. My KAP 150 is over 40 years old and working perfectly.
  14. True, but when you are utilizing one point twenty one jigawatts, it wouldn't matter.
  15. Some of my posts are getting crossed here.. What I meant by the comment is that I find it hard to believe that any component would go bad by itself after the G500 was installed and not be related to the G500.
  16. I'd rather place my money on a Flux Capacitor.
  17. FWIW, my personality type doesn't believe in coincidences.
  18. There are two terms for all of this: for the new process created, disruption. The person who creates it, disruptor. Fred Smith was a disruptor of the 70's, just as Travis Kalanick is of the 2010's.
  19. Not as irritating as seeing pictures of pilots wearing their uniform cap and jackets while seated behind the controls.
  20. The panel is in remarkably good condition and clean.
  21. Hank mentioned an important point - trim. You must learn to trim as quickly and accurately as possible. You won't be successful at instrument flying if you are constantly struggling to keep the plane flying straight and level.
  22. My advice to you, start hitting the books and get a leg up on the training before it even starts.
  23. Sounds like a job well done. Just so you know, instrument training can be a lot more difficult than primary.
