  1. For the doghouse, order some new parts from mooney, only order the parts that have the most curves and effort, and have your mechanic make the easy parts. The mooney parts are pricey, but they might save some money over your mechanic trying to do some of them with trial and error. Unless your mechanic is great with sheet metal. The new doghouse parts are really worth it; I did it on my C and temps dropped a bit. Then try some metal tape also to cover any tiny gaps. on the LASAR enclosure; I think it is worth it, it is supposed to improve cooling and I think it probably does. Gives a bit of speed and most importantly it looks much better!
  2. It must have the adapter because I can do heading and GPS steering from the Aspen to the autopilot.
  3. Hoping someone has an easy answer on this...was flying today and my AHARS warning light popped on (aspen still working, no failures) and at the same time, autopilot shut down. A few minutes later, AHARS warning turned off and I could restart autopilot. I don't think my autopilot is connected to AHARS (king 150), but the aspen does do heading and GPS steering for the autopilot. both AHARS and autopilot are on the same circuit breaker. The circuit breaker did not pop. Throughout the flight the AHARS warning would go on and turn off. any ideas? Hopefully cheap solutions because I just had to get a new turbo check valve...
  4. Rio Linda? I'm at Placerville with an 84 231.
  5. As soon as I get the plane back I'll try to grab a picture
  6. The clamps you need, in case you want to find them cheaper (Though even from a MSC, they weren't bad) are: MS21919WCH11 CLAMP, WHITE SILICONE RATE TO 400 DEG. MS21919WDF16 Clamp, Check Valve
  7. You found big foot?! Awesome! Pictures or it didn't happen!
  8. I prefer top gun
  9. I think there was a SB with the dukes valves. The mechanic put new clamps but yeah I'm going to try to find a way to keep that from happening. It happened not too far from home so it's not that much of an inconvenience, but had I been on a long trip or somewhere without mx, it would have been a real pain.
  10. My 84k, 231, with less than 180 SMOH has been a good, reliable plane. Rarely do I have any oil leaks, and if I notice something small, it gets tightened so no more leaks. Two flights ago, I noticed a bit of oil on nose gear door so I did some snooping and it looked like it was coming from the turbo check valve. I talked to the mechanic and he thought it was coming from above there, on the accessory case (Not sure if that is the term, but right above the oil filter) and collecting on the check valve. He tightened the accessory case and the check valves and off I went. The next flight, about .4 hours, there was MUCH more oil on the nose gear doors, on the nose gear and all over the check valve/oil filter area (Accessory looked clean). So I parked it where it was and had a mechanic look at it Monday. It appears the adel clamps were loose, allowing movement and chaffing on the supply side turbo check valve, under the clamp. The chaffing causing two tiny pin size holes in the casing of the check valve. Hot oil squirting all over. Very little actual oil was lost, pressure and temperature never varied (Probably a couple of tablespoons of oil at most). So, 231 owners, check your adel clamps on the turbo check valves and make sure they're snug, there shouldn't be any play for the check valves to move around. I think there was a SB about Dukes check valves, but I'm pretty sure these are not them. $500 for a new check valve... Edit: I just called Top Gun (MSC) and they said those adel clamps should be inspected and changed every year...
  11. Well in the specific case of the skycatcher, I think it was about a small production run and the need to ultimately support the fleet that was sold. If Cessna was going to discontinue production, then canibalizing the remaining planes for parts to support the rest of the flying fleet might be a good idea. The article says the planes had all the usable parts removed before they were scrapped. Donating a plane that can't be supported to a flight school isn't very helpful. though I agree with you that it's sucks to see a new plane scrapped...
  12. Yep, that worked, thanks for the tip.
  13. None of my flights on flight following show up on flightaware since early 2016...don't know why...
  14. Any thoughts on this kit (fbo-0) ? What else would I need?
  15. Thank you, that is helpful and specific. I'll send you a pm with a few more questions. There was a setup on aerox that I'd like you to take a look at.
  16. I have a built-in tank. Trying to build a refill station.
  17. I would like to get an oxygen refill system so I can refill my built in tank. I've read topics on here about leasing a big tank from a welding shop, so refills and exchanges are easy. I'm hoping someone can give me some specific things I need to buy/lease. What size tank do I need? Can I just use one? What type of adapters and hoses do I need to fill the plane tank (part #s/websites). My airport doesn't have oxygen service so flying to one that does, plus the $50 + per fill, is time consuming and pricey. I'd much prefer to do it myself. Thanks in advance for the info:)
  18. This is from an AOPA article. It shows class E as 10k to 18k. Go above 10k and do the turns and climbs as described...worked for me.
  19. I failed my time requirement too the first time. I was trying to stay in class C airspace and transitioned between class C at Sacramento and class C at Beale and they did not count the time in between those two air spaces and my time was 28 minutes in rule airspace. I tried again and stayed above 10,000 feet and it worked great. AOPA had a article on ADSB air space for the rebate but I don't have the link handy
  20. Class e for "rule airspace " for the test is over 10k. Go up above 10k, do the turns, go north south east and west over the same fix, etc and you will be set. Remember to do some climbs also. Maybe a block from 10.5 to 12.5k
  21. No they sold a couple years ago. Should be quite a few available with people replacing them with jpi stuff
  22. My link didn't work, but I persevered so you could see them anyway...
  23. http://www.skywagons.com/sites/all/libraries/juicebox/full.html i think these are spoilers on a 20k for sale...I've never seen them in person. I've only seen precise flight style, like civilized people use
  24. Red! Sporty!
