  1. One other very important thing. There should be a heavy braided ground strap from your engine case to the firewall. Make sure this is in place and there is no paint under it.
  2. No. There should be a short wire that goes from a terminal on the alternator back to ground. I'm not familiar with plane power, but this is the way most alternators are set up.
  3. It sounds like voltage is getting to the field. The other end of the field winding must be grounded to complete the circuit. On my alternator their is a short wire that does this. Make sure that whatever it grounded to isn't painted over.
  4. Does anyone have any experience with the Skytronics Aero-Lite 90 deg ignition harnesses? They seem cost about 1/2 what some of the others do.
  5. When the IFD 540 is released, the market for the used 430's will likely be flooded and drive the price down considerably.
  6. Most people would be surprised at the small stuff they would find in the bottom of their fuel tanks. I know I was. As for as the fuel flow transducer, Jim was correct. Its a tapered pipe thread and JPI very specifically says use a steel fitting with no sealant. An aluminum fitting will gall before it gets tight.
  7. I made the one in my plane for about $25. The expensive part will be if you have to buy new lighting.
  8. Any machine shop or toolroom that has a wire edm can cut any spline you need.
  9. I saw the one on e-bay also. We made them for Mooney where I used to work. Purchased as an industrial fan it was a $30 part, but as an aircraft part it was almost $300. Same pn on the motor, the only difference was the DAR signature.
  10. What's wrong with it? The sump drain on mine was leaking and all it needed was to be taken apart and cleaned. The seat had some dried fuel deposits on it.
  11. Here is the pilots manual. I also have the install manual if you need it. Mike
  12. Here is a recent discussion of them. There are also a couple of other threads on the EAA site. My experiences with them was similiar and all I wanted was their centri-lub cam. It took me 3 months to get the cam back from them. http://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=71580&hilit=beware
  13. I have the 830 and like it. The install isn't that hard assuming you have an empty space to put it. I put the one in my plane with supervision by my IA. The wiring harness is complete. You will need to buy or make up a couple of fuel lines and an oil line. Aditionally you will need to buy a red light to mount in front of you and a few AN fittings DG style clamps and a circuit breaker. Its a little agervating running the OAT sensor out to the wing depending on where you put it and figuring out the correct length an placement of the new fuel lines and transucer may take a little while. I think JPI currently has rebates. They also offer good prices at Oshkosh and Sun-In-Fun.
  14. You might want to google firewall forward before you buy anything from them. There are plenty of post about them on other websites. I sent my camshaft to them for the centrilub mod. IT was susposed to be returned the next day. It took over 3 months and threats to get it back. They will not return phone calls.
  15. The E and F use a double pass oil cooler. Its divided down the middle and the oil makes 2 passes through it. It basicall comes out the same end it goes in. I believe the B's and C's use a single pass where the oil goes in one end and comes out the other. You might want to double check this and make sure.
  16. Mooney also has an option to add an extra set of set rail holes to let the seat move back a bit more. I think it covers the J's and up.
  17. I have been looking at this one. The only downside is it requires a 201 spinner. http://www.aeroresourcesinc.com/account/index.php/product?id=71
  18. For me the G4 is well worth the money. The GPS doesn't require a verizon contract to work. Also the wireless service doesn't require a contract. I just buy the 1G of data a month for $20 and that works out about right for me.
  19. If the pc system is working correctly its relatively inexpensive to add the ACCU-TRACK option to it.
  20. Put one end of it up tight against th underside of the case snout and then pull the other end of it up the lifting loop and attach it to it.
  21. When I overhauled my engine I cut the label off each box or bag that a part came in and put them in a large envelope with my logs. That way I have exact partnumbers, rev numbers and date codes for every part in the engine. Much easier than having to tear into an engine to see if it has a suspect parts.
  22. You will have to decide what your comfortable with. I doubt lycoming is in the business of making belts. There is an AC that allows using a auto belt on older aircraft. I have one of each. One is ran around the pulleys and the other is tied up as a spare in case it is needed. The NAPA green belt seems to be a common one used. I think it was either a 36.5 or 37.5".
  23. It might be worth considering a New PCU 5000 governor instead of overhauling the old governor. You can buy a new one outright for around $1700 and sell your old one as a core on ebay for a few hundred. They are generally regarded as a better governor , a couple of pounds lighter and have a 7 year warrenty. I think they include a new cable arm bracket also.
  24. To the eci pushrod tube retainers. The RV link above has pictures of the part.
  25. The people with parallel valve engines may want to take a look at this. It's not an AD yet, but there have been several failures in the field. http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgSAIB.nsf/dc7bd4f27e5f107486257221005f069d/69fe14836447bef586257abd00533486/$FILE/NE-13-06.pdf http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=52770&highlight=eci+retainer
