  1. Yves, if all goes well, I'll be in Oshkosh on Monday for the magazine, avec or sans my Super 21! You can count me in as an almost certain !
  2. One thing to remember is that Mr Paul was installing the 9 hole panel, which is more troublesome. If you stick with the 8 hole panel, apart from a few cuts, nothing major, it is pretty feasible. But I always rely on my A&P for those special things. It costs some more money for labor, but he does in a few hours what I would do in a couple of weeks...
  3. Here is my modification using Lasar panels. Berfore: During: After: It was entirely done by my A&P and total cost, parts+labor and taxes = $1200
  4. Congrats! You'll find out pretty soon why they call it the Super 21! Pierre (#748)
  5. The off the rack devices we're looking at are designed not to activate accidentally, meaning you have to lift it before turning it on. We will have to work with a custom made solution, maybe turning the switch in a East-West fashion instead of North-South...
  6. Last annual, I had my Mx install an avionic master. Pretty little toggle you can see just right of the prop control(AVN) on this picture: On my last flight, I found out that, in turbulence, this toggle switch is pretty vulnerable... As I reached to change frequency on my IFD, my hand, with a mind of his own, went in a downward motion, shutting all my avionics... We're working on a solution for my next flight...
  7. Since aircaft ownership isn't logical, why would you try to justify it with an equation? Glafaille, stop trying to make sense of all this, take the plunge and enjoy the good, the bad and the ugly of Mooney ownership!
  8. I went with Sigma Tek: "Save on a 5000B-36 AI or 4000B-30 DG when you trade in your old gyro, now only $729*. Why overhaul your old air-driven gyro when you could have a reliable new Sigma-Tek 5000B AI or 4000B DG. For more information call or email us."

  10. Bienvenue Louis! At these prices, I do hope you know you're going to have to spend some extra dollars in the first few years...
  11. At AircraftSpruce..ca, they are $139.75, canadian each!
  12. Back in 2014, the left side panel was $250
  13. I used Lasars pre-cut panel for the left side and don't regret it. It takes a little tweaking but my mechanic is very competent and it came out very much to my liking.
  14. When it came time to WAAS my GNS430, after evaluating all options, I went with Avidyne's IFD540 over other options and don't have any regrets. Bigger screen doesn't only to show more of your map, but also datas along with maps which is one of the greatest improvement over the GNS430, if you set aside the screen resolution, ease of use, etc... So, as other have said, go for the bigger screen!
  15. Congrats to a new Super 21 owner! I always refer to it as the Porsche Carrera of general aviation. Handling, speed and fast even standing still, my kind of airplane. If you want to tour America with the wife, two kids and a dog, there's always a good ole Ford Station wagon or a Minivan... My insurance company also asked for ten hours dual and five hours with six take-off/landing prior to carrying passengers. Blue skies in your "Brand new to you" 64 M20E
  16. French speaking socialists! SACREBLEU! BTW, based on last New Hampshire primaries, there is a bunch of socialists over there and French can be heard in a lot of old mills town like Manchester, Concord...
  17. Yeah, I know, the story on another post...
  18. Still have mine! I often use it on long flights to double check my SIRS compass and correct my DG. You can see it in the lower right corner.
  19. Thanks for the reply. I am just as "unique" as the 65 even though I'm a 1957 model!
  20. Maybe a silly question but do you mean 65 and up as the major modification in the E and C started with year model 65?

  22. I worked Houman's flight inbound to Lachute, where he cleared customs, then saw his target on my radar again as he approached Mascouche. I was hoping the timing was just a coincidence but got the bad news this morning. To answer some questions, Mascouche (CSK3) is one of the busiest non-towered field in Canada and is planned to shut down in November 2016. The aircraft was found next to a highway that parrallels the runway about 1/2 mile to the south. At the time of the crash, at Mirabel airport, 15 nm west, the weather was VMC and winds were from the NE at around 10kts. So sorry for Houman's loss, didn't know him much, but he was a passionate. Salut Houman et repose en paix!
  23. A Mooney crashed in the Montréal area, late this afternoon. Two people are listed as critical. Further details as they become available. Thoughts and prayers with victims and families. Mes pensées vont aux victimes et à leurs familles.
  24. Yeah I was planning to go flying when I saw the bright blue skies but then I looked at the METAR and it showed 16°C, but I just didn't want to test these winds, but some of my friends did... on the golf course : CYUL 241900Z 23030G45KT 30SM FEW045 FEW140 BKN240 16/06 A2968
  25. Carl, the guy kinda sounded like he was hooked on a long body and, although there are longer bodied Mooney other than the F and G's, we all know that size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it.... For me and the kind of flying I do, which ressembles Cody's planned flying, the E is the perfect plane. I sometimes refer to it as the Porsche 911 Carrera of the Mooney fleet. Sure there are two «seats» in the back where you can fit two people for short trips, but what you really bought it for is it's super handling and speed... That's probably why they called it the Super 21!
