  1. Ugliness is in the eye of the beholder... Enjoy!
  2. Happened to me with my Zulu. A few flight where it started with static in the background and nothing with my Peltor passive... Then one day, at 7500', couldn't hear a word from ATC and didn't seem to transmit... Changed to the Peltor while I changed the batteries and ...Voilà! I felt a bit dumb, but for once, it was a quick and innexpensive fix!
  3. No, keep it simple, link it to the step retraction mechanism... B)
  4. Had the same problem, tried the Velcro, but it wouldn't stay on during the hot summer days. Finally, I opened the side panel and used a big washer to allow the screw to hold to something strong. Sorry, no pictures!
  5. Some pilots came to our refresher training to talk about the way they now operate their planes in those "Fuel saving is everything" days. Lots of attention is paid to details to save fuel and amongst them, they don't use full power on take-off anymore, unless some special conditions forces them to. As my tower counterparts told me, take-off runs are getting longer and longer...
  6. Hank, Sorry, might have misread your post, but just wanted to make sure. We had a guy up here who stopped flying his Cessna for two years and spent all kind of money having his ignition and fuel system checked after he experienced a loss of power at altitude on a beautiful summer day. When people told him he had a carb icing experience, he just didn't believe them, because he said he added carb heat and nothing happened. Ended up his carb heat wasn't working properly...
  7. Don't make the mistake of mixing ice, or colder temperatures, and carburetor ice! You can get carb ice at temperatures in the 50's or 60's on a beautiful summer day... Here's a chart to freshen up your carb icing skills.
  8. Yep, that's about right! Nowadays, $1.25 CDN will buy $1 US
  9. Bought a used one for my Cherokee years ago. It looked real nice and lasted 15 hrs! Either have yours overhaul for $400 or go with Sigmatek trade-in program for $700: http://www.sigmatek.com/
  10. Received the final bill: $1600
  11. Cuir: $300 Main d'oeuvre: $1600 Txes incluses
  12. Also on this side of the border, try Aeroger at Lachute Airport (450-409-0561) They just did my two front buckets and my back bench, for $1600 with tax. I bought the leather myself for $300. So total around $2000 CANADIENS Could have been cheaper, but they did the complete makeover including a different shape, new foam and painted frame.
  13. That's exactly why we need to support AOPA and others who are fighting for a "softer" solution for the required equipment for the 2020 ADS-B mandate. Installation quotes are obscene, why not focus on a solution that is semi-portable and can be certified on a bi-annual basis like my transponder, encoder and altimeter? BTW! If you're asking yourself why a Canadian is taking part in this debate? I live 40nm from the borders and, like many of my Canadian friends, do a lot of flying in the USA and I am a member of COPA and AOPA, so yes it affects me!
  14. Il y a même des Ontariens!
  15. There is also Aeroneuf in Laval, north of Montréal : http://www.aeroneuf.com/ or you can do as I did and buy new ones from Sigmatek at around $700 with your instruments in trade: http://www.sigmatek.com/
  16. I had the vertical card with the balancing balls. My M20E still has the original windshield and I would knock my head on those balls almost every time I got in. Decided to change for a SIRS and I am very satisfied.
  17. Well in my ATC world, Montréal Terminal, when there is a discrepancy of more than 200 feet, the mode C is considered as unservicable and we tell the pilot to shut the mode C down ( on instead of alt) and in some cases, they are refused clearance to enter class C airspace. That's valid for all of Canada.
  18. Thanks, the guy who did the seats did the panel as part of the job!
  19. Thanks, just looked it up on their site! $485 for the 1/8th Smoke Grey $585 for the 1/4 Smoke Grey... Maybe next annual!
  20. Just out of the blue.... Don't you need a STC to go from a two piece windshield to a single?
  21. They're located on the Northern right coast, north of Montréal, QC at Lachute (CSE4) airport. The name of the shop is Aeroger and they do paint and interiors, I do recommend them!
  22. NIce but not a lot of suppot, they were more like dining room chairs! We've added a little more foam on the sides on the new ones.
  23. Found out last week that the altimeter and TC had to be overhauled, so a couple weeks delay for the final product. But, while I was waiting for the panel, they're talking about another couple of weeks, I got myself some Delta blue aviation leather, negotiated with a local aviation paint and upholstery shop, and went from this... To..... Voilà! Now if I can only get my Mooney back, I'll start putting some money into Avgas!
