  1. I wish it were that simple. Unless you want to tootle around in Class D, G, and parts of E, you limit yourself to where you plan to go. You're buying the best, most economical X-county ride and won't be able to go everywhere your bird can take you. The "VFR and under 18,000'" isn't completely accurate. My grandkids live in the middle of DFW's Class B so, yes I need it. I also own a 1946 Cessna 140 for which I keep for puttering around D, G, and E, but will never see an ADS-B out installed. If your mission is to never fly anywhere other than VFR and never anywhere where you cross A, B, and C, then is a Mooney really what you need? I wish you the best of luck, the hunt for the right plane can be fun, hair pulling, and fraught with peril. Don
  2. Sold. Thanks for lucking Don
  3. MPG, Best of luck on your search. I have to agree with most everyone here and say that there are a lot of potential cost just to get it is airworthy. Then the real money will be needed once you decide on the avionics that you want to upgrade to later. One example is that the engine compartment photo shows the battery box is corroded. It might be repairable, but the replacement from Mooney is $1200 for a new one and there are almost no serviceable used ones around. New box and battery and you've spent 10% of what the plane original cost and you've just got started. I purchased my plane in 2009. The previous owner allowed the plane to set in a hangar for over 10 years. He spent close to $25,000 on the annual to make it airworthy to sell which included the overhaul due to a corroded cam. Good luck to you, Don
  4. Good deal, gives me time to start saving my pennies. Don
  5. Yep, it was just a bit of Photoshop fun. I had always loved the pictures of jets breaking the sound barrier so took portions of the attached photo and added to my Mooney. Thanks for the comments. Don
  6. I haven't been as excited about a prospective new mod to my C since the the 201 windshield upgrade. I may have missed it in the thread, but if all goes well theoretically, when would you hope to be able to market your product given FAA approval process and then manufacturing the kit. Please keep up the great work as I think you have a great prospective product for our wonderful birds. Best regards, Don
  7. Love the U.P. area and Mackinaw Island is one of my wife's top 10 places on the planet. I'm trying to talk her into flying to the island this time in the Moonye instead of commercial and then the ferry. Nothing is better than some Mackinaw fudge! Don
  8. Please PM me for shipping and payment instructions. Thanks, Don
  9. DG for sale. Working when pulled for upgrade. $75 plus shipping. PM or call cell if interested. Thanks, Don 817-559-3950
  10. FS, a pair of older style yokes. Will be good candidates for stripping and covering. One has PTT installed. $100 plus shipping. PM if interested or call cell. Don 817-559-3950
  11. Sorry, wrong forum. Moderator, please delete. Don

  13. You may already have theses items, but Mutt Muffs and a harness to secure them in are great for your furry flyers. Don
  14. Little Timmy would have probably grown up to hand-fly single-engine into hard IMC to minimums every time. Don
  15. When you do spill some oil, and I usually do, a quick once over with my cheap Harbor Freight solvent gun and some Varsol does wonders. While I'm at it, I usually hit the undercarriage and nose wheel and it's good until the next oil change. Don
  16. Where are you located? There may be someone on MS nearby that would show you some of their planes. If DFW area, I'd let you fly in mine. Don
  17. Wow, I always wanted to go up there and attend his school. I can't wait to hear your Pirep. I did all my training locally. Tailwheel and then acrobatic/unusual attitudes training has been the best thing for improving my flying and most fun I've had in a long time. After initial TW sign off, I moved to Pitts transition training with acrobatic and unusual attitudes work. The down side is that it makes flying your Mooney like driving your grandmothers Buick. You're going to come back wanting to buy one his Super Decathlons he sales. Regards, Don
  18. Yours turned out a bit cleaner looking than mine. I used the marine bilge fan mounted inside the box. It will fit almost exactly in a 4" PVC crossover connector from Home Depot and puts out a lot of air. Last year, during my panel and interior upgrade, I added a 12V plug in the luggage compartment and Aux. rocker switch in the panel to turn it off once in cool air. My next plan is to get the help of my wife and sew a canvas container with an area for the intake and exhaust that matches the interior to hide the DIY look of it. Don
  19. Fly over my house and I'll pull out my GL-39 and 795 and see if you're on my screen. Don
  20. I was just gazing at the weather report for Texas tomorrow and looks to be the perfect day for a $100 burger. Is there any interest out there for a impromptu gathering somewhere at a central spot in Texas? Texted to the "organizer" of most our Texas Mooney guys, Bucho, and he's got prior commitments and others may be obligated for Valentines Day, but if there is a group interested, chime in. A thought to throw out there would be Hard Eight BBQ in Stephenville (next to airport). Don 817.559.3950 C
  21. While we're on the subject of IFR training, I noticed that it was reported that NDB's were being removed from the PP written. Has anyone heard if that were the case on the IR written? Don
  22. Has anyone seen this vintage Mooney listed on Barnstormers? http://www.barnstormers.com/listing.php?id=968945 I haven't seen one like it ever listed in this shape. Pretty remarkable. Don
  23. Its been claimed. Regards, Don
  24. If someone needs an iPad holder (1st generation) from Ram Mount, mail me a check for shipping and you can have it. It is only the expandable bracket with none of the ball/swivel parts. Just hated to throw it away. Don
  25. It not be for everyone, but I went for my tailwheel endorsement starting off in a Citabria and finished off completing my Pitts signoff. Learning TW landings in a variety of planes and speeds changed the way I look at handling landings including, but not limited to, approach speeds, configurations, slips, crabs, and touching down at the right speed. Even if a person doesn't intend on flying a lot of TW planes, 5-10 hours in a Citabria and getting your endorsement will change your entire outlook on landings and make you a better stick and rudder pilot as well. Don
