These items were pulled from my 64C from the recent upgrade. It is an old ARC autopilot installed by Mooney. I'm selling the lot for $200 + shipping. It tried to work at times so there are no guarantees. For parts only. Thanks, Don

Yes, I went with the 225 as well. Don

Not to side with either party in this matter, I can only convey my experiences with Aero Comfort. I was completely satisfied with their product and I couldn't be happier with the results. The process was handled professionally and without issues. When I first visited their facility in SAT, I had envisioned your typical shop that is a mess and disorganized, but what I found was extremely orderly and very professional and clean. Do you pay a premium for the product...YES, but you do get premium upholstery job in return and it says a lot that he's booked through next year on just Mooney's. I do hope that there is some resolution in this matter that satisfies both parties and I would hope that something this simple would come between others not using AC in the future based on this set of circumstances with a headrest. If I were to play devil's advocate for one moment, if I were to buy a 4 year old car off Craigslist and the chrome was peeling of the bumper, would Ford fix it for free? Probably not. Granted, this probably is not apples and apples, but you get my point. Regards, Don

The Lasar cowl enclosure STC has a couple of options on how it can be installed. That being riveted on the outside or drilling out rivets and sliding it in between the sheet metal. What's been the experience of others with this on a 64C or similar model? Any tricks or learning curve experience would be appreciated. It's not nearly as complicated as the 201 windshield that I installed, but just looking to pick others brains. Thanks, Don

Yes, worked well for me. I almost kept it in my recent re-build. Only problem was it really was going to look bad with the rest of the panel and radio stack being brand new. If you get it and bench test it and you're not happy with it in 30 days, send it back for full refund. Thanks, Don

FS: Drift HD170 Camera w/ Accessories

I'll take it, PM sent. Don -
Just throwing out another idea if all else fails. Hector might be able to salvage the headrest and embroidery work by putting the logo back into it's "hole" and running another border around the present stitching which ties the old logo to the un-cut leather. Maybe using a another color that matches the present color scheme and give it more depth. Don

+1 on the 55X as that is what I installed this summer. Yeah, way too much money, but I'm spending my kids inheritance. Just compare the s-tec 30 + GPSS cost to the 55x that has it included. I love to have the heading bug set or GPS setup before take-off and just punch the button and set the VS to climb at and off we go. Still trying to learn the other features. Don

Wow, I wonder how many sets they sold lately. I'll have to call Dan and check on my commission check.

With regards to the economics of extracting oil and break even numbers, and this is just talking about top tier domestic explorers, $38/bbl is just about as good as there is. As an energy consultant, I know this is a good number. Some smaller exploration companies will beat this number, but the barrels they are putting on the market do not influence the price that much in the big picture. However, there are some top tier companies that will need to be in range of $60+/bbl to break even due to coming to party late and paying premiums for leases and development cost. Consumers should enjoy lower energy cost for most of 2015, but as some drilling slows in the US and capital expenditures are reduced, we will see the cycle swing the other way as production increases stall and surpluses diminish. This is exactly what the Saudis are hoping for. The company that I'm contracted to is one of the best out there for optimizing the economics in the field of horizontal drilling and completions, i.e. hydraulic fracturing, and we're going to hold drilling levels in 2015 the same as 2014, but there will be others that have already starting scaling back drilling activity. I realize that it's hard to feel sorry for "Big Oil" but we need to support efforts at home to continue to drill and yes, frack here in the U.S. to continue to become energy independent and free of OPEC's grasp on our pocket books. The EPA, Sierra Club, and some in the present administration are not exactly supporters of the energy revolution that was taking place so we'll not get any help from them. I'm a free market supporter and do not advocate price supports, but I would at least hope that the government will get out of the way and let us do what is best for energy independence here in the U.S. We pilots will enjoy some cheaper gas for a while, but unfortunately, it will eventually be back up sooner or later. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now. Regards, Don

Best way to Pre-Heat or Cold Start an Engine away from home
dcrogers11 replied to Hedge's topic in General Mooney Talk
Man, you guys are tough! I'm in Texas and I use my heater to warm my plane when my enclosed, insulated hanger temps drop below +50 degrees F. BTW, what oil are you using and what is the coldest temps you have started your plane in. When you first start the engine with the setup you have, what is your initial oil temp at startup. Don -
How is the best way to pull the inspection covers without damaging the wing area or the cover? Thanks, Don

The visors are smoked Plexiglass and only the center bracket and the flat pieces holding the plexiglass to the rod are aluminum.
-
Yes, there is a slight bend each side of the center bracket.

I don't fly at night as I don't like the noises my engine makes only at night. That and being color blind disqualifies me from flying at night anyway according to the FAA. Don

I tried the exhaust tailpipe method once and would prefer to not do it again. I ran a dryer vent hose from the tailpipe and up into the cowl flaps. Everything was soaked from the moisture. I couldn't tell how corrosive it was, but it just can't be that good for it. I thought I might take the battery out and keep it warm as a plan B, but ended up getting the plane to start. Don -
I got lucky and found some Mooney yokes on Ebay cheap. They were in bad shape but had the PTT switch built in. I put new PTT and A/P switch and had them covered. You might call a few of the most notable aviation salvage yards before you go the route of a small plate and PTT switch which is also fairly easy to fabricate and mount to the top left yoke handle. No, the 4 nuts (2 on each u-bolt) on each visor panel snugged up are enough to keep them from slipping down unless you want them to. The nylon bushing is a great idea as I will look at doing something like that on version II. Don

Mooney prebuy shop near Fort Worth Texas?
dcrogers11 replied to manoflamancha's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Good luck with the pre-buy. There are several Mooney owners on here in the DFW area. I'm near Ft. Worth and I'm sure anyone of us will help you if something comes up. Don -
Working Manual Gear - What I Learned...
dcrogers11 replied to urbanti's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
For something really different, fly in the right seat and try to bring the gear up. I let a friend/pilot fly left seat and I was going to take care of the gear for the non-Mooney pilot. It was like the first time I had sat in a Mooney. Funny thing how much muscle memory there is that doesn't transfer to the other side. Don -
Thanks David. I worked in China 2 years and my Manderin sucks. Don

Anyone have an extra vertical card compass and bracket they would like to sale. PM me please. Thanks, Don

Yes, they flip down. They certainly don't articulate like Rosens or Wisors but they served the purpose. When you tighten the small U-shaped clamps over the rod and through the visor to the flat piece on the opposite side, tighten just enough to hold in place and pivot down when you need them down. First flight, I took a small wrench to adjust the tension. They stayed up fine and pivoted down easy. The nuts just need to be snug. Don
