  1. I have a 50x50 hangar attached to my house in our airpark. If height is not restricted, then you can have sidewalls that can accommodate a second floor office, or just storage above a lower level office/bathroom/or inclosed workshop. A RV sized door is nice to have plus people doors on front and back. I have water hose connections at the back next to the big door for car washes. My AC/heater is from a AC shop that took it in on a trade so they couldn't sell it as new. My door is a Highlift and I'm happy with it and is cheaper that some of the others. I expoxied the floor when new and wouldn't have it any other way, but don't cut corners on the materials. Also, my local Kelly Moore rents a bead blaster and is so much better than an acid wash to etch the concrete. I used 3" roll insulation, but wish I had gone with closed cell spray foam with a painted top coat as it is really tough and tightens the building up. I installed the 8' wall on the inside and didn't add that much to the total cost and you can hide wiring and also protects the insulation. Hope some of this helps. Here's some pics. Don
  2. I hope this isn't hijacking the thread, but PilotCoyote, here is the link to the upgrade on my 64C.
  3. Also a good time to add headphone jacks to the back seat if this hasn't been mentioned. Don
  4. I went through the same process as you on the interior replacement on my 64C. It's a huge project, but there is no feeling like sitting in your new, fresh cockpit. I see you're in Texas near me so heat is something we deal with. When I redid my upholstery, I added a 12v plug-in in the luggage compartment for a ice cooler A/C. That way, I was not stringing wire from the front to the back every time I wanted to use it. I added an AUX switch to the front panel so that I could switch it on and off easily. Of course this was done by my A&P and properly documented when we did the panel upgrade. Just a thought. Don
  5. I have the same question, just got back from the store with the mailbox lock and you can't pull the key out when the door is unlocked. If you position it the other way, then you can get the key out if it is locked. I need to be able to pull the key out when it is unlocked (as it would be during flight), so this won't work. It was only $4.00 so not a loss, but will have to look at another option.
  6. Thanks, Where did you pick it up at. Guessing maybe Bigbox store?
  7. The tumblers in my 64 C's door lock are worn out and have quit working with any of the keys I have. Does anyone have a source for a new one or have replaced theirs before. thanks, Don
  8. Does anyone have a part # for the gascolator gasket on a 64 M20C? Thanks, Don
  9. Regarding new avionics, I was told by the agent that ANYTHING permanently mounted is always the insurance company's if the plane is totaled. They let me insure my 64C for $80,000 (maximum allowed by them for my model) for what I spent on it last year and my premium actually stayed the same due to hours in type and ratings changes. Don
  10. Great pictures. Don
  11. +1 on the wrist bands. My wife also uses Bomine. On another note, Sean D. Tucker was afraid to fly but that obvious passed. So should your nausea. Best of luck. Don
  12. Aside from the hard stance on the iPad mount, he said that he was quite obliging in all other areas. He's an older gentleman that others have used for check rides and they would all use him again. One thing that I found interesting was when asked about the use of his autopilot to fly the approaches, he said that he could on ALL the various approaches and not just one that I've always heard about. I'll hear more tomorrow after he completes his test and report back. Don
  13. Five between the two airparks in my subdivision.
  14. Sorry for the duplicate post. Moderator, please delete. Don
  15. A good friend of mine is going for his IFR checkride tomorrow here in Texas. The FAA examiner was talking with him on preparation and Pete asked him if he could use his iPad during the flight. He said yes, but stated that it could only be held or secured using something like a Sporty's kneeboard holder. He said that the FAA would not allow it to be affixed to the plane in any form such as a Ram-Mount. He mentioned that this was big on their "hit list" and if you are approached by an official looking individual on the ramp, that you should remove any such mounting device or face a fine if caught. I've looked briefly on the web and haven't found such a ruling. Anyone here heard anything regarding this? Thanks, Don

  17. http://wkrn.com/2015/04/18/small-plane-carrying-4-crashes-in-winchester/ The report said that 5 were onboard and the heading said 4. Not sure which is accurate and report said nothing about ages. Don
  18. +1, 85 mph is a bit fast. I'm usually no where near gross when landing as i travel mostly on business by myself with 20 gals of fuel on board arriving at my destination . If I nail 72-74 mph across the numbers, I don't float. Just a nice flare and let settle on its on. But my first year and 100 hours in my C, I felt that most my landings were awful as I too was usually too fast on base. Practice, practice, practice. Good luck. Don
  19. I just booked my room at The Inn of the Hills and all they have left were the 2 queen bed rooms. I didn't ask how many rooms were left in our block of rooms, but it would be prudent the make the call pretty soon if you plan to attend and want to stay at the host hotel. Also, the 14th is the last day for the $99/night rate for us and the 17th is the last day to get registered at the $180/person rate. It goes to $250/person after that. NB-If you didn't see Greg Ellis's post regarding the Southern Vintage Mooney Group fly-in, it is in a couple of weeks on the 25th at my home airport, The Landings (66TE) in Pecan Plantation near Granbury, TX. Hope you can attend. Regards, Don
  20. Will be at MAPA. Look forward to meeting you and seeing the fruits of your labor. Don
  21. Man...super nice! Well thought out. Would love to see the before picture just for fun. I love it. Don
  22. If your an XM customer, then the 796 is a great addition but still doesn't have traffic. I opted for the lesser 795 since I use the GL 39 for my weather and traffic. XM may not have the latency that Nexrad has, but both the '6 and '5 are for long range flight planning and information only. I love my 795 mounted in my Airgizmo. Don
  23. At least Piper got the gear doors right. Don
  24. Looks like a Mooney variant called a Commanche 180 or 250. Don
