  1. The Mooney instructor I hired for my insurance check ride says he always locks the baggage door before flight. This is part of my pre flight and prior to boarding I habitually lock the baggage door.
  2. I am going to install a Garmin 330 mode S TX, and hoping that traffic will show up on either my GTN 750 MFD or my G500 MFD. I am not really clear in my mind what will happen. I will need another ADSN-In device to have weather for sure. The radio guy gave me a real good price for trade in on my 327 transponder and that is why i made the change. Here in Canada we are not mandated the 2020 date however I do fly a lot in the US and would like to have what I need to keep the controllers happy. Any advice and help is appreciated.
  3. Kind of curious what rates are? I get mine from JL Davidson and Assoc in Ajax ON. I have a J with 210,000 coverage. Paying 1.1 % full coverage

  6. Thought I might as well chime in also. I just went through an extensive refurb on my 77 J. I agree with Jose that getting your money back from a refurbished J would be a pipe dream. Realizing what is currently out there in the resale market and looking what I have now I have to learn to be happy with my investment. I know what I have and I don't have to second guess another owners work. I get great comments from Mooney lovers and other aviation folk about my investment. My justification for this expense is that this is the closest I will get to a new Mooney, and this Mooney was rebuilt for my benefit and for no one else.
  7. Clarence, I get mine done here in Edmonton by ALS Labratory Group they have a lab in Burlington, I can PM a copy of my last one if you like. Eldon Burlington, Ontario csr.burlington@alstribology.com 877-732-9559
  8. Thanks everyone I have sent these on to my AME
  9. I have a 1977 J with the smaller trim wheel. After 35 plus years the mechanism appears to be wearing out and will need some repair. I would like to exchange this one and install a newer style larger trim wheel (which I happen to have from a 79 model) with the larger wheel that has knobs for easier use. my AME here in Canada is reluctant to exchange the trim mechanisms unless there is an approved Mooney retro for this change. I would ask if anyone of the Mooney service experts is aware of any factory retro fit drawings. I could not find one on the Mooney web site. I am going to have to remove and possibly replace in any event, the one that I have will fit in the same spot. Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Eldon
  10. I have a J model, and in preparation of transitioning back into flying after a few years of no flying activity I chose to become involved with the Mooney Flight safety program. I attended my first PPP at KPSP. My assigned instructor as well as the other instructors at the course said no to Touch and Go's. Subsequently all practice landings and take offs at this PPP were full stop. Once I felt more competent I did try a few touch and goes after our airport CZVL increased the runway length to 5000 ft. My take on touch and go's is that it does increase the propensity to make an small error or loose concentration. My experienced PPP instructor said that all our landings normally are full stop and in his opinion it is better to concentrate on making that landing the very best you can, taxi back then concentrate on making the best take off the you can. I respect experience. Eldon
  11. same thing just happened to me, bought a new one. The 2 to 2 1/2 inch overlap is not that robust. It could have been just a combination of gear retraction and turbulance that created the right conditions for this part to fail. And no I was not flying inverted eldon
  12. Well done 201 flyer, As the owner of another 77 201 north of you, I would also be interested to know who did the work. This aviation world we live in is a small one and the rest of us need to know who to stay away from and be able to Fly Safe. I have nearly 100 hours on my recently major overhauled engine and would not look forward to a similar situation.
  13. Where is the best place to obtain a set of Ovation 3 maintanance and parts catalog thanks Eldon
  14. I had a foggy VSI in my J model before I redid the panel. A hangar elf did remove the 8 small screws and while doing this, one of the screws had a small piece of whatever the manufacturer puts on to see if the instrument has been tampered with. The hangar elf removed the glass and cleaned it, put it all back together and the VSI looks same as original except for the small white piece of goop on one of the screws. This particular VSI has not been returned back to service as I did not need it as a back up to the G500. From all indications this VSI would still work as intended. If nobody needs a used VSI it will just sit on a shelf as a momento .
  15. Thanks for all the feedback, I will learn to be happy with a newly installed lighter socket and an adapter
  16. When I changed my panel over I did not reinstall the traditional cigarette lighter. with all the new USB powered Ipads etc seems to me to make sense to install USB style rather than a cigarette lighter receptacle. I have come across this one Model TA 102 True Blue USB charging port, just wondering if anyone has used this one or others. What they you doing to run external devices. Thanks for your input.
  17. I just talked with Gerry he said he would do a pre buy for you 3D Aircraft Services Hangar 51, Cooking Lake Airport 51401 - RR 221 Sherwood Park, AB T5E 1H1 W. 780 922-2842 Regards Gerry Boucher AME - Chris Jackson AME - Heiko Boychuk AME
  18. We have a good AME that currently looks after approx 6 Mooneys in the Edmonton area that works out of Cooking Lake probably is the closest to Lloyd, I can check with him to see if they will travel to Lloyd
  19. I have 2 A490TCF that I removed in favor of a single strobe transformer. let me know if this works for you. Eldon 780-975-8598
  20. I am looking to change to a Hartzell top prop. I have a 77 J with a McAuley prop with only 100 hours on it, the prop shop locally will take it in on trade but would consider selling outright. Not sure if this will fit on your F model. Eldon
  21. Sadly the fate of an important historical airport will happen here in Edmonton on November 30, 2013. We are having a commemorative fly-in on October 12. I will be flying my Mooney in to show respect and support the memories of this great historical landmark that is being destroyed by a handful of politicians. Here is a quote by Tom Hinderks Executive Director of the Alberta Aviation Museum..........it is simply wrong to let Blatchford Field, Edmonton Industrial Airport, Edmonton Municipal Airport, the Muni, CYXD or YXD whatever you grew up calling it go quietly into the night. So much has happened here, so many hundreds or thousands even millions of people effected over a history reaching from January 1927 when the first aircraft touched down here to November 30th, 2013 when the last one leaves that slipping silently away is just not right. Imagine if there had never been a Blatchford Field for a moment... Like George Bailey in "It's a wonderful life" Blatchford Field has reached across the world and forever changed everything...for the better. Imagine the lives touched... The Official/Unofficial Blatchford Field Commemorative Fly in to the Museum From the first flight of a Curtiss Headless Pusher at the Edmonton Horse Exhibition in 1911 through to the closure of the last runway at Blatchford Field/Edmonton City Centre at 11:59pm on November 30th will represent 102 years of flight in Edmonton City Limits. With all that Blatchford Field has contributed to Edmonton over the more than a century this is a place that cannot go quietly into the night, all that has happened must be celebrated. The first of what the Alberta Aviation Museum hopes will be a series of events leading to that final day and working with a great group of grass roots aviation people the Museum is hosting a Commemorative Fly In to Blatchford Field by aviators from around Alberta on October 12th during museum regular hours. For Edmontonians and visitors to our City we will be having some special panel exhibits of the history as well as our recently revised floor displays and exhibits. Come sign our special Commemorative Guest Book which will enter the Museum archives and learn why Blatchford Field has been so important in making Edmonton what it is today. Regular Museum admissions apply. Aviators…join us October 12th and to give some encouragement the Museum is waiving your regular admission (aircrew and passengers) in lieu of admission by donation. Enter at the 100’ gate at the North end of the Museum and sign our aviators guest book, with your name, your passengers names and aircraft registration number, this book will also be entering our archives. Parking has been arranged with Edmonton Airports beside the Museum. Other parking arrangements are also in the works. Please advise if you will be joining us by e-mailing eahs.execdirector@shawbiz.ca so we can have an idea of who is attending and watch the AvCanada website and the Alberta Aviation Museum facebook page for more aviation related details. Let’s celebrate our past… Thomas Hinderks Executive Director Alberta Aviation Museum Association

  24. Can't wait to see the finished product. Did I ever send you all the still pictures I took of the 2 of you filming in Kerrville in Mar 2012? I'll have to dig into my archives and look at them again.
