  1. This 1980 231 had the light pictured above added to the left wing by Mod Works in 1998. they are no longer around to ask about what made it legal.
  2. This particular virus is the result of “modern medicine” The selfish and dangerous actions of bad actors in China and America created it. Modern medicine has contributed to but has not been the only factor in extending life. Agriculture and sanitation are important changes in today’s increase life spans. Bringing clean food and water practices to 3rd world countries make the difference today. The single biggest change that took the life spans of Americans from under forty to near 80 is the near elimination of infant mortality.
  3. Mask wearing IS political. any attempt at saying otherwise is disingenuous at best. we only got the pathetic “stop the politics” drivel when someone was brave enough to not follow the leftist party line. and Carusoam lose the “I feel sorry BS” stop lying and say the truth.
  4. Acid rain, not ozone depletion really? next ice age, didn’t happen, global warming, fits well with next ice age. Both were used politically to gain the same result. ”Climate change” rebranded global warming. “carbon footprint” political buzzword with no real meaning. Life on earth is Carbon based. Without carbon life does not exist. How can carbon be “Evil” if it is the very basis of ALL life on this planet. Takes real “basic” science to call carbon evil. ‘if this is “Basic Science” the the word Basic has lost its meaning and now means “politically expedient” as in we self righteously call it science but it’s just political leftist grandstanding. can I be any blunter. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Joseph Goebbels the media has become the propaganda arm of the liberal view. If it is pushed in the media it is by definition a lie. If it is censored by media and tech it Must be the truth. The same forces that burned books in Berlin are busy in America today.
  5. What is erroneous in my statement or are you reduced to ad hominun attacks when no other facts do?
  6. Just for the record. ‘my father in law was in the “Covid unit” my wife had to “gown up” new mask, gloves, gown and head cover to see him. ‘I was not allowed in. No staff on the unit were wearing masks outside of patient rooms. My wife thought it odd that she was completely covered but no staff at all were. He stayed in the Covid unit until he tested negative. Two weeks later he returned because of a UTI. poor hospital hygiene caused it. he was put back in the Covid unit. while in the hospital every positive test is recorded as a new case. he alone accounted for 14 “new” Covid cases. Statistics lie and liars quote statistics.
  7. Masks as mandated and worn serve NO medical purpose. It is a control devise. Phyc-0ps At best mask wear may delay the inevitable. Unless this particular Covid virus is different than every other Covid virus the vaccine will be only partially effective and will need to be reformulated when the virus changes. This is not like polio. It will not be eliminated. This is like the seasonal flu it will constantly change. But, every person in the world WILL at some point be exposed to this virus. The mask will not stop the inevitability of that fact. The virus is man made. It was not an accidental release. It was done on purpose. It is being used to coerce and control. The “pandemic” will be over when it is politically expedient for it to be over. The Spanish flu virus still exists. We don’t take a vaccine for it. It no longer kills. Food for thought.
  8. It’s not just “navigate” it’s dispatch reliability. you get stuck by weather in a J that you wouldn’t think twice about in a K. I went to St George to watch my father at the Huntsman senior games, had to drive my family home on Sunday then drive back Thursday for the plane. thats 20 hours of driving to get kids to school and me to work on Monday. not fun. And I had to take a day off work to retrieve the plane. Momma was not happy. There is no real cost difference between K/J that I can honestly report. K would be a bit more I’m sure. I owned them too far apart to remember. I owned the stock K in 93-94 and the J in 08-14 sandwiched around the greatest Mooney ever the 305 Rocket.
  9. I’m in Arizona now but owned a K that was later converted to a Rocket and after that a J while based at Centennial. Do you have a Hangar? Have you checked on a shelter availability. If you have any interest in heading west from Centennial I would recommend a K and not a J. I flew many rented Mooneys including a then 2 year old MSE/J. I loved flying that plane. I planned on buying a J. While looking I found a 231 in town and bought it. My first plane was 231NH. I flew it stock for about 100 hours and about 800 hours as a Rocket. Loved that airplane. I sold it to take advantage of a real estate situation expecting to buy another plane later. Finally a few years later I was looking to buy again. I had really loved the K but had pretty fond memories of the J I had flown earlier. Speed of the J was adequate and I figured it would be less costly to own in retirement. I bought 1079V a 1990 MSE/J. I absolutely hated that airplane. Every time I flew it I lamented about what it could not do. What it could not do was fly high enough. Clouds that the K flew right over easily, and the MEAs west of Denver became unreachable. Memories of heading home to Centennial from the southwest and being unable to maintain assigned altitude over LARKS because of winds aloft still haunt me. I sold the J to a flat lander in Texas.
  10. Mooney does not use a trim tab. The whole tail section changes attitude instead. As such the “trim tab” is Always perfectly aligned.
  11. Plus there is no parasitic trim drag on a Mooney. we don’t use trim tabs, they slow you down.
  12. These two aircraft are very similar, same in almost every way. To point out physical differences really is “picking nits” the biggest difference is? one had a better marketing campaign the other is no longer produced
  13. https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Single+Engine+Piston&make=MOONEY&model=M20K+231&listing_id=2390967&s-type=aircraft# this one seems like a better deal. New engine, prop, better paint ,interior and panel. tough call in today’s market
  14. You mean like this?
  15. No those people think it’s a better product. They believe the hype and bought the koolaid. ‘I don’t. I think they are terrible planes. ‘plastic, unrepairable, prohibitively expensive. That precious parachute is a $15,000 reoccurring expense. Mooney has the greatest safety feature. A wing that won’t break. If I was given one I would sell it tomorrow and buy a Mooney. But The Hype sells, illusion is reality. just like the Scion XB Scion invented the class of car. ‘the Kia Soul is a markedly inferior product but it sells. The “Rat car” marketing campaign was amazing. Scion out of production. In today’s society the better promoted product sells. The better product doesn’t. We live in a style over substance society. If it “sounds” better it is better, clueless and crazy.
  16. That link brought up a crop duster crash April 20 2020. The plane ended up just 2 miles north of here. The crash was not the plane in this picture but, This plane is lower than my roofline (30’) and about 1000’ from the power lines. That crop dusting is some wild flying.
  17. No kidding. it was Really bad. few sold and Porsche lost tons of money on every one. poor performance. ‘the hurricane was merciful to Porsche in this case.
  18. Not a better product, better propaganda. America in a nutshell.
  19. Correct me if this is wrong. 25 years ago I had seats recovered by the Auto upholstery shop I had used numerous times for my classic cars. when I ask around I got the “burn test” advice above. unless the material being used was leather because leather by definition was fire safe. My question is does leather require a burn test?
  20. IFR out of Jackson Hole for Spokane and over Rexburg Idaho I lost the alternator in my Rocket. March of 1996. Told center I had an electrical problem and would let him know after I checked it out. When I hit the breaker reset I heard an arc sound and it threw my finger back off the breaker. Dead short in the circuit. Turned off all unnecessary equipment and reported back. I was above a solid cloud deck but in VFR conditions. I ask for the closest VFR airport and did not get a good answer. He tried to send me to Kalispell Montana. But when I ask if it was VFR he said no. I told him I would prefer to continue enroute he agreed. I had 2 six month old batteries installed, a handheld VOR/Com radio and a battery powered GPS so I was not worried about continued flight but did not want an IFR approach. When I got to Lewiston Idaho I could see the airport, officially conditions were broken. I canceled and landed VFR. No Emergency existed just extra caution. Rocket brought an alternator and a AP out and we flew back to Spokane together. No follow up from the FAA at all. If I had continued to my destination they might have questioned my decision. I landed at the first VFR airport I came to. Lewiston was officially “broken” skies so the controller could not give me a visual but I could see the airport clearly and could judge that a VFR landing was safe. Without declaring an emergency I had to follow the controller. Fortunately he agreed with my recommendations. A controller will tend to defer to your judgement if it sounds reasonable to him. Declaring an emergency makes you #1 on his priority. You are still the PIC he will, within reason, give you everything he can. You can still say “unable” to any control YOU deem not in your best interest. A year or so earlier before the plane was converted to a Rocket I was IFR 22,000 ft between Pueblo and Colorado Springs and developed intake icing and associated loss of power in what was then a stock 231. I was already essentially on the ILS to Centennial. He tried to turn me towards Falcon VOR and I said unable, explained the problem and ask for a direct clearance to Centennial via direct ILS 35 right. He gave me a decent as needed clearance and direct Centennial heading. He then checked with approach and got me the ILS clearance. As I dropped out of the clouds things melted and power returned. I informed approach of that and landed normally. Again no emergency and no follow up. If he had refused I could have declared and got what I wanted. Then there would have been some follow up. By not declaring an emergency I did not increase the workload of center. We worked together for a good outcome. Declaring an emergency is our right as the PIC. But if we declare it can affect others in significant ways. Both of these incidents happened in low workload environments which made it easier for both of us to take a wait and see attitude. Had I declared into Centennial it might have essentially closed the airport to any other IFR traffic while I was still 60+ nautical mile out and unnecessarily added to the workload for both controllers and airport personnel and would have inconvenienced other pilots. In the above case he ask if you wanted to declare. That is kind of a hint that that is the quickest and easiest way for him to get you on the ground. If you are ever ask if you want to declare you better have a good reason to say no. Conversely if after relaying your problem he does not ask if you want to declare and simply asks what you want you should have a good reason to declare. In neither case above was I ask “do you want to declare an emergency” How the controller responds can help you to help him to help you. Open communication is always best. Controllers really are there to keep us safe and are generally really good people doing a demanding job.
  21. White stuff visible on my walk this morning. On the taxiway at Pegasus Airpark 5AZ3. It’s been 7 years since I came here from Colorado. Something in the back of my mind keeps telling me “I’m as close to that white stuff right now as I ever want to be” My father in law reported 2 feet of snow near Prescott. “Shudder” 70 degrees here at 5:18 should hit 75 on the links tomorrow. Hey we had winter this week, it actually rained.
  22. Another sheepskin hater here. You sit too high and are too far forward they are too thick. Mess up the seat position. Makes the seat too short to support thighs properly. You lose the thickness of the cover in rear seat legroom. My dad who was 8” shorter than me loved them in his Mercedes. I was uncomfortable between them and the wheel and I’m only 6’ tall. As low as the seats on my Mooney could go I would occasionally hit the ceiling in rough turbulence. Less headroom would be a not starter. Do they stink too? photos below are the seats I had redone years ago. The big improvement was the high back. Much more comfortable that way.
  23. Correct me if I’m wrong. “Skins” for the earlier type are not a specific part but sheet aluminum. As sheet aluminum a mechanic can make them out of the correct material. The later type are specific parts made only by Mooney. They were un available when I needed them and was forced to find a usable used part.
  24. The biggest blockade to modern technology of any kind are the FAA certification rules. ‘the way the FAA operates guarantees that we have dated technology in our planes.
  25. SMWash02 above showed a link to Spruce. very similar to the one I had.
