  1. Quote: Piloto If you are planning upgrades or mods to your Missile I would put on the list long range tanks. At speeds over 180kts you can now make those 1000nm trips at about the same time (door to door) as the airlines. But need the extra fuel that the added power requires. It makes the Missile a practical and economical machine for long trips. No need to worry about topping-off the pee bottle. José
  2. regardless, seems like we are all speculating heavily on the intentions of the seller here. I do agree, though, that the fancypaint on the cowling does appear suspicious for a "test asset." I think the current bid is in the mid 20's for this aircraft, but it hasn't met reserve yet. The real question is: what is the reserve price, and is the fact that the aircraft isn't airworthy (as a certified aircraft) factored into the price.... on another note: how much does it cost to make molds and a custom cowl? I can't imagine it's that cheap...
  3. Quote: Seth I've looked at a few planes, put offers on three, walked away from a 252, had an offer on a Missile rejected before it hit the open market, and now, am pleased to annouce that I have upgraded to and purchased a Mooney Missile. N1165N is a 1983 Mooney M20J 300 Missile. I test flew her up in MN two weeks ago with Bruce Jaeger and at 9000 feet, not pushing too hard, saw 181 knots. I'll give more details later, but I'm very happy with the purchase. The prebuy inspection turned up only a few items, one was a big issue, but it all worked out. I'll give more information later, but here are some pics! Thanks for the advice over the past few months regarding my upgrade. Also, my 1967 M20F is under contract, so once that deal closes, I should be in good shape. Take care, -Seth
  4. This might not be that bad of a deal, depending on how close to an STC it is... all depends on if the buyer knows what they are getting themselves into, and if they are able to follow it through to the end. It would be nice to see a LoPresti type cowling that was sold at more "traditional" cowling prices (~5000) rather than 15k....
  5. Personally, I think this is a great move forward (synthetic vision with wingXPro). Don't get me wrong- I understand that you can't use this as primary display (obviously), but hopefully this will put a bit of pressure on avionics manufacturers to continue to develop more low cost solutions for the little guy. What a great progression... first the Garmin units, then Aspen, then the iPad, and now further iPad device and software options. It's a great time to be a "little guy" in the aviation world!
  6. Sounds awesome, I wonder what else Oshkosh will bring!
  7. Quote: carusoam Jim, Interesting find. Anyone, Could we install an AHRS into an existing Pitot / static system? It would have no real effect on the system except for the possibility of introducing an air leak. Christmas List: Ipad(V3), Sky Radar (waas, weather, traffic), Synthetic Vision (is that the right runway in front of me?), AHRS (airspeed data), Geo-Ref approach plates (Am I really in the right place?), and one extra pair of Mark 1 Eyeballs (to keep one set outside the cockpit). Best regards, -a-
  8. Quote: Magnum The Parmetheus PAR 46 LED has now PMA (no STC necessary, can be installed in foreign registered aircraft, too)
  9. Quote: fantom Hank, your cereal doesn't sound very palatable. If all you need is a back up and WX, check out an Aera 510 for well under a grand. There is even an additional Airventure discount, from Sporty's I think, on-line. It's a very good touch screen GPS, has an internal battery, your 430W can cross feed it your flight plan, can be very cleanly hard wire mounted, on either yoke with a single power/antenna cord through the yoke column and under the glareshield. Works well for me. You purchase may help keep GRMN's stock price up for 'smiles.
  10. looks pretty sweet... hope they do TSO it, then price it competatively with the Aspen single PFD (pro pilot model). Should benifit the consumers (I hope!)!
  11. Regardless- it's a tragedy, if it's either maintenance or skill based... I hope it's not a sign of complacency on either the maintainers or the pilots- both are equally troubling and tragic to me....
  12. Would love to see a touch screen aspen or garmin PFD... might drive down the price of the old units enough for me to be able to justify one!
  13. I read this rumor as well, either in an AOPA magazine or a copy of Plane & Pilot, can't remember which. I would imagine they are coming out with a TSO'ed version of the GDU 375... which would be awesome (IMO).... would compliment a GTN750 VERY well.... Here's a link to the GDU 375 www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/gdu375.php
  14. I had a Garmin GMA347 installed after my KMA20 bit the dust. It's been very reliable and is easy to use. I like the clearance recorder functionality and the music input jack with auto cutout. More expensive, but I haven't had a single problem with it...
  15. Quote: scottfromiowa I really was expecting some "get your $#*% together" comments as I definitely berated myself pretty hard on this. Thanks for showing restraint. Especially with the recent spate of take-off accidents. I try to maintain focus and failed miserably. A reminder to me to REALLY by focused approaching an airport as "I" might be taking off... Two times Up North (our cabins are directly on final just south of airport) a nice Beech flew at about 150 knots just above trees and pulled a 60 degree bank over airport. Second time (separate day) was when an outdoor carnival on park adjacent to airport was taking place and airplane rides were being provided... What do others think of this type of buzzing? A part of me said "pretty cool" and the pilot in me said why take the chance...I don't feel this is good airmanship and taking unnessary risk in the pattern by a busy "that day" airport. My blunder was "mental error". This is in a different category, right? Or not?
  16. Quote: jetdriven Thats a super nice paint job, Job.
  17. Quote: ArtCraft ArtCraft Paint, Inc has a Thanks’ giving special COMPLETE PAINT JOB FOR $ 9,000.00 if you bring your aircraft before Saturday November 14, 2009
  18. I flew a hornet into Boeing field a few years back, and they gave me something like the "visual bay approach." It was in my approach plates- it takes you right along the water front at 3000 feet, then drops down to 1500 feet and flows up the bay straight in to boeing field... It's a great approach! on a side note- I used clay lacy while I was there- they were great, although I can't attest to the price, as I wasn't footing the bill :-)
  19. not sure about the compass... but if I hold my iPhone close to my 396 and forget to put it in "airplane mode", the 396 loses all it's satellites..... Anyone else lose GPS satellites when their iPhone is near?
  20. I can't believe how expensive the Dukes pump has become... I replaced mine for $600 two years ago... Is this the future for all our parts?
  21. Sounds like a wonderful day...
  22. Scott- I'm considering a similar upgrade: did you see any performance increase (a couple knots?)?
  23. I agree with Jetdriven on this. I think this is a conversation best saved for your instructor, not necessarily this forum (unless it's to warn other pilots off on a CFI's unsafe practices.. not saying that is the case here, as I wasn't in the aircraft and I don't feel like we have the full story)
  24. Or you could just get an AOA gauge and not have to worry about the math, winds, density altitude, gross weight and angle of bank so much... I'm just sayin'! ;-)
  25. I had some problems with my C41 a year or two ago that sound similar to what you're experiencing. Turned out to be a blown fuse. LASAR sent the autopilot computer to autopilot central (I think that's the name of the place), and they threw it on the test bench. Turned out to be 300 or so bucks plus shipping and removal/install. Not too bad of a fix. The C41 couples flawlessly to GS on my 430W and ILS (KNS80) now. Might be worth looking into... (LASAR's recommendation intially was to suck it up and buy a new A/P rather than try to troubleshoot the old one... a new STEC is 15K... I wasn't going to spring for that without at least getting the computer bench checked by an A/P specialist). Good luck! When the C41 works, though, it's a thing of beauty!
