  1. I couldn't start the plane Saturday. The technique I used: throttle 1" open, full rich, boost on for three seconds then off, slowly reduce mixture to ICO. Wait 10 seconds, crank. Nada. Tried to flood it, etc. No love. Even flooded technique didn't work. Sooo, I went back to the POH. I found the starting procedure to be different from the checklist. In short, I have found three different starting procedures in the various POH's. I have a 1977 201 (S/N 48) with A3B6D. My POH - throttle 1/4" open, mixture ICO, fuel tank selected, boost pump on until pressure > 10" then off, advance mixture to 50% for three seconds, then ICO, then crank. Later POH - throttle 25%, mixture full rich, boost on until pressure rises, then off, mixture ICO, then crank. Checklist - throttle 1", mixture full rich, boost on three seconds, then off, mixture ICO, then crank. Why the differences? Going to try the POH one this evening. If that doesn't work, will have mx look at it.
  2. Make sure the G1000 is certified for LPV approaches. I believe some of the earlier versions of the software were not.
  3. Just out of curiousity, why do you have a radar display in your truck?
  4. Agreed, the difference in reception is night and day.
  5. No flap landing? OMG
  6. Drill a hole in the filter with a #30 bit, open the quick drain valve and go to lunch. Filter will be completely empty when you get back and no mess.
  7. BTW, experimented with a car mount and the hat shelf in the baggage compartment. Looks like it will just be easier to toss it on the right side glareshield.
  8. It is built by the same people I bot my Stratux antenna from. The antenna is awesome no matter where I have it in the plane and they are very friendly. If I didn't have the stratux already, would get this in a second.
  9. Got everything working. Forgot that the network name is case sensitive (stratux not Stratux) but once that was resolved the iPad, Stratux, and 440 all talked to each other. Got traffic & weather on the iPad although it would be nice to be able to stream stuff to the 440. Was able to upload flight plans to the 440.
  10. Love the new 440. But - how do you nuke everything in the current flight plan? Went out and shot approaches to three airports. I kept adding a new destination / approach. After a while the FMS page was pretty jacked up. Would be nice to be able to clean it all out. Has anyone been able to link their iPad/Foreflight to the unit?
  11. Plus one on the black silicone. You have to insert them carefully. Roll them until they are very compact, reach over your head with opposite hand, pull up on your ear, insert, let expand, then release your ear.If they are fully inserted they are pretty good. Not quite as good as my Zulu but a lot more comfortable after three hours.
  12. I use cotton towels that are sopping wet to get the junk off then use Plexus and AutoZone chamois to polish. I only use a half a can of Plexus per year.
  13. Pretty sure if it's all velcro'ed in place, including the cellphone battery power source, the FAA isn't gonna get strained about it....
  14. I think the big issue is governance. If the airlines are over-represented on the board, biz-av and GA operators are legitimately afraid that an economic downturn would result in huge pressure to cut costs and transfer fees to non-airline operators. On the plus side, it would allow for multi-year budgeting. A lot of projects suffer from the stop/start pace of budget planning. Having watched a few government/corporate projects run by large corporations with nebulous/changing operational requirements, not sure that privatization would really make it much more efficient.
  15. I'm gonna try the hat rack first. The antenna is awesome (pingUSB dual band antenna) and has a 8" extension so I can put it out by the window while the actual unit sits in the back. I hadn't thought of the hat rack.
  16. I have a homemade Stratux receiver. Raspberry Pi, battery pack, and antenna. I have been putting it on the glareshield on the co-pilots side. Summer in Texas, it gets to like 75C inside the computer. Has anyone come up with a mount for a Stratux? I can always do duct tape in the back window but wanted to do something a tad more elegant.
  17. Never mind. It looks like the broker fuse goes to the radio package plug. It used to power radio lights which are now internal to the units.
  18. You guys are the best. I found the fuses for the panel lights on the schematic. I'm a little puzzled. There are two 5A fuses under the glareshield wired in parallel to the transistor in the panel dimming circuit. One of them is broken. I ordered a replacement. The lights still work with just the one fuse. Why do they have two fuses in parallel? Is it to even out the load or something? They appear to be sourcing the power from the same place and delivering it to the same place.
  19. When reading the electrical schematic, each line is annotated with something like 21WE17B20. I assume this is to help identify the line at the source and destination. Do the numbers have any other significance like wire gauge or voltage or anything? PS. Are the fuses indicated anywhere on the schematic? Not a lot of experience reading these things.
  20. I have forgotten and it's not a big deal.
  21. A must have in non a/c'ed Mooneys in Texas.
  22. MX told me to leave it at fine pitch (full forward) until the oil temp gauge started to move at which point one cycle of 300-500 rpm was sufficient to get the oil flowing.
  23. Yeah the ebay ones were all not the same switch. I ordered an MPA-206 and will also order a MSP205R from a salvage yard. I like ordering plane parts that are sub $10 :-) I was able to figure out the switch function with a multi-meter. Learn something new every day.
