  1. Way cooler than a motorcycle! -a-
  2. Sounds like the pot hole owner might be responsible in the end...? -a-
  3. Derek, Are you asking about the interior release for the baggage door? Old planes don't have it newer ones do. I remember the upgrade but don't know the details... You might consider a call to the factory? Hope this gets you closer. -a-
  4. Thinking panel vibration may have changed? Be looking to possibly change vibration adsorbing hardware, or it might need to be tightened? Are you familiar with these in your plane? ....thinking out loud. -a-
  5. Careful with the spring. It wants to wind wildly while you are cleaning it. Possible breaking issue. -a-
  6. Gilles, you have a winner with this one.... Is that a one way runway? -a-
  7. There is a vent on the pilot side that is duplicated on the copilot side on newer models. Wemac??? The naca duct in the tail seems to work well. But dual wemacs work the best. Best regards, -a-
  8. Sky radar and WingX are getting better each quarter. Whish it worked in the car... Good weather overlays onto good charts using the IPad. -a-
  9. That was quick... The C makes a great entry to the Mooney world. -a-
  10. Memories from an old M20C... Too much, in the winter at 11,500' Not enough, in the summer at 2,000' Memories from a modern M20R... Plenty of air flow and heat when needed... The old systems were not designed well. Corrosion has often killed their operabillity. They can be rebuilt with some effort. -a-
  11. Gus, You came to the right place... I get the honor of answering first..... There are Js here with more than 7,000 hours on them. They get 2,000 hours before rebuilding the engine. Their brothers are still flying with 50 years on them. Best of all, they have been written about here in a nearly simple format that can be searched through. There are some planes here that have been completely refreshed to better than new condition. Find the search button at the top of the page and try your hand at creating a personalized search. Look up TT for total time. There have been some long discussions on the topic. Well kept Mooneys last as long as their pilots.... Good luck. I wish I could sell planes for a living... Best regards, -a-
  12. I like web flying with you guys!!! -a-
  13. Mike, Theoretically speaking, Expect one or two knots by improving balance. Adding a few pounds in the right place (within the legal envelope) will keep your trim from hanging out in the wind. A tool box in the baggage compartment to minimize up-trim during solo flights comes to mind. Always calculate your W&B accurately before this type of experiment. Don't rush or exceed any limits..... Changing the balance alters the aircraft's resistance to stalls. Best regards, -a-
  14. http://www.aircraftpaintschemes.com/paint_shop_locator_detail.asp?ShopID=75 Reese in NJ. My plane was painted there with good results. Mooney experience, high quality, long lasting......on the same airport as NJ's MSC.... -a-
  15. Mike, The old eyelets seem to be steel and rust. A combination for ruining the corresponding aluminum threads. The fix for that sounds a little more expensive.... -a-
  16. Was the plane jacked up for the annual? The eyelet would have been removed for jacking points. ... The Lasar tie downs include the jacking point in their design.... Back to the mechanic to "finish" the job properly? -a-
  17. The submit button is sometimes mislabeled.... -a-
  18. Un modified tanks are not penetrated by the tie down. Extended range tanks seem to occupy the next bay over. Back in the day, mooney recommended removing the eyelets prior to flight. They used to drop like eyelet bombs. suggest, Lasar to help, they sell a nice aerodynamic upgrade for the tie down. Properly sealed and not strained would be a nice upgrade. This doesn't sound like serious "damage". Essentially have proper mechanic remove the bolt, clean up, seal and torque tight. Use the Lasar upgrade and you don't have to clean an old rusty bolt. The coarse thread makes the bolt easier to remove for flight. Pulling on it with the force of a storm, is known to loosen them. The Lasar set will improve the loosening under load situation. Pilot tried to taxi while tied down, can have the same result...... Total cost estimate: an hour or two plus some parts. I am not a mechanic, just a friend on the Internet.... Let me know what you find out... Best regards, -a-
  19. Last annual was in 2008 and then the prop was replaced in 2012. Thanks for the 80 page tour down memory lane... The pre purchase inspection from a proper shop will be worth it's weight in gold. With the prop replacements, I was not able to discern any upgrades toward the screamin' eagle type of package. This is an opinion, I am not a mechanic, with no ties to this aircraft. Overall, Eagles are great Mooneys, this one has been improved in the panel some. Best regards, -a-
  20. Roughly speaking, If it fits in the Tahoe, it will fit in the O1... The seats fold down. 1,000# useful. 4 seats for 4 ordinary people. It's like the J, but bigger and faster. It's like the C, but bigger, faster, more IFR capable, and much more expensive. Best regards, -a-
  21. George, umm er......Brett? I like your thinking. Waas capability would be greatly appreciated by the buying crowd. Best regards, -a-
  22. Doing the math, you can upgrade from a J to an R by operating LOP in accordance with the POH. Saving fuel bucks, paying the bank, go faster with greater comfort... The point being, Mooney / Continental does print IO-550 LOP data. You can follow ROP or LOP procedures without peril, as suggested in the POH for an Ovation. Wouldn't that be nice to have for the J? Just stirring the pot, no need to reply. Best regards, -a-
  23. Hope, I get first comment.... I like the big side bolsters for high speed exits from the runway! The extra support will be a great advantage. They look ultra modern and ultra comfy. Best regards, -a-
  24. Search for the guy who flew from the pacific coast to Florida in a Mooney, nonstop. Efficiency is the only reason for this type of flying. If you are trying to build flight hours, this would be efficient. Driving a diesel powered VW would be more efficient and even less fun... Flying LOP increases efficiency with an acceptable cut in speed for the E, LOP is probably not possible for the C. Watch CHT and oil T. They may go to the low end of their ranges. You may be operating in an area that few have been operating long term in. I did it once for about an hour seeing if I could ridge soar with a low power setting. Fun, but not the way I would want to have to fly. I did not have 4CHTs or FF data either in the old bird. -a-
