  1. Have mechanic check the Bendix drive. Good lubrication and cleaning of that device can fix the basic problem of the stuck engagement. Cleaning and lubricating may be something you can do yourself? The Bendix drive is something that wears out at a different rate than the starter motor. Getting dirty and rusting are the enemy of the simple system. Something to consider if you budget is limited. Then get the high speed starter... Best regards, -a-
  2. Phillip, I'd like it in navy blue if you would be so kind... Best regards, -a-
  3. Nice speed control. -a-
  4. I read anything from Mr. Kromer. How to operate a C, J and K, I believe. He seems to have been the engineering heart and soul of Mooney for a decade or so. Unfortunately that was in the time before the Internet and interactive forums. Then one day, he was running the company and then disappeared followed by Y2K and my MAPA subscription lapsed... LNG liquid natural gas.... Several automotive applications and trucks are currently operating. Infrastructure is slow to develop. Fuel tanks are pressure cylinders. Not mentioning turbines, that would be a longer putt for a Mooney. Where is Mr. Kromer now? Best regards, -a- Bob, if your here, your always welcome to chime in.
  5. '65 and earlier M20s will run out of rudder sooner than later model machines. The rudder was lengthened in 66. So much of the plane's capability, especially in this case, is relying on pilot skill, training and currency. It is near impossible for the manufacturer to write that anywhere. YMMV... -a-
  6. The specific energy of diesel does make it a preferred fuel. The engine manufacture would have to contain a very high (100:1?) compression ratio. I'm betting on 100 and 100LL for the next 20 years, 100 hours per year to TBO. Need to learn the proper steps to the TBO rain dance. I must have got the steps wrong. -a-
  7. The fuel situation in our country is talking ®evolutionary changes. Shale based oil seems to be the near future of increased supply. Now, if Continental starts building an LNG IO550.... The tanks would be an interesting challenge. Best regards, -a-
  8. We need that formation class... Alan's E made an impressive attempt to keep up with Mike's J. Best regards, -a-
  9. Carriage returns have returned..... It was a setting change related to my browser on my IPad. It was a byproduct of the setting, so it wasn't really obvious... Best regards, -a-
  10. Way to go R.... Your efforts are going to help somebody in a big way someday. Best regards, -a-
  11. Do we really want diesel, or would 100 octane without the LL be OK with everyone? The Continental IO550 is certified for both. Performance difference is listed as a density difference, not a HP difference. The drag strip, next to the airport sells it for high performance customers...? Makes the Missle upgrade look pretty wise, again. Just thinking out loud and sharing. Best regards, -a-
  12. Seth must have seen his shadow and ran back in his hangar. Mike & Anthony
  13. I'm with Mike... And Cris... See you all there. Best regards, -a-
  14. Check for holes placed by the factory already. The screws in my C were backed up by (fasteners). -a-
  15. They passed out pins, "wings", on an annual basis, based on the leve that you personally achieved. Each level got slightly more ornate. I believe I achieved two levels, they were the equivalent of stars on your forehead in grammar school. Not very memorable... Nice idea, just couldn't generate the interest level it was trying to accomplish.
  16. My C used screws to hold the carpet in place... -a-
  17. Class credits given by the FAA for safety presentations that you can attend. You can use the credits to add up towards your BFR, biennial flight review...( I have forgotten the details, someone please help?)
  18. CB, You need to join us for a NJ Mooney fly-in. Best regards, -a-
  19. MSEs are nice planes... -a-
  20. Tom, your sense of humor is still intact! Best regards, -a-
  21. Go ahead and post pictures if you like. Best regards, -a-
  22. The two topics I can think best describe the issue are cam oxidation and engine overhaul. There are not many, but enough, that indicate that the risk to a Lyc O360 setting for years is quite large. My O360 stuck a valve when I first purchased it. I knew it sat for a year or two and knowingly (sort of) took on the risk. The situation occurred after several hour long flights. What i didn't know, is that there is a way to visually inspect the cam and cylinders for oxidation or damage. This is also covered here at mooneyspace. The good news? We have one member here that has some responsibility for an oil additive to help avoid the corrosion. Find him and ask questions. Best regards, -a-
  23. N4352H, I like your idea where we don't repeat the same situation. That would be the point of discussing it ONCE. If we could learn and not repeat, that would be good! Best regards, -a-
  24. Nicholas, Check your phone number, it seems to be missing a digit... Best regards, -a-
  25. You didn't look very hard.... Stuck valve and destroyed cam and how to avoid them are my favorite discussions. Lycoming engines have had a few issues here over the years. Enough to generate the endless discussion on oil additives. Or did I misunderstand your statement? Best regards, -a-
