  1. I have completed the install of the shoulder harnesses in my 1967 M20F (Amsafe IR Reels purchased from Alpha Aviation). As others have noted before, the most difficult part was attaching the clamp on the pilot side. I finally got it on by inserting from back to front then rotating the clamp into position. The shoulder harness work wells. I completed a test flight and was able to move freely and the shoulder harness was comfortable. The harness reel seems to fit a little tight against the interior and I would have like to have a fraction more room between the reel and interior molding. Paula at Alpha Aviation suggested adding washers and possible a longer bolt if needed.
  2. I had the same concern. I discussed with Paula and she does not believe it will be an issue. The reel is smaller than I was expecting, so hopefully its out of the way. I have the pleasure of inserting a car seat in the back from time to time, so that will be the test...
  3. Kurt, I just received the harnesses in the mail. They look great. I do not have installed yet so take with grain of salt - I would suggest the IR for the left seat. I also ordered the IR for the right, but still unsure if I would have preferred the fixed. The Wife (Commander in Chief) rides in the right seat so thought I better go with the IR. The belt does not fully retract into the IR housing, remains extended six inches or so. I will install during my annual in a couple of weeks. Paula, Thanks for offering up the 2012 prices. I will have my mechanic help with the install so hope it goes smoothly. I would like to have more photos of the installation process if any are available. Thanks again. Tom

  5. I just ordered the IRs for both sides from Alpha. They were nice enough to give me the 2012 prices. Anyone have photos of the install?
  6. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I definately appreciate the need to install the shoulder straps - and should have completed the upgrade previously. Hopefully, I will never have the need, and having them installed will provide additional insurance that I'll never have an issue. I am leaning toward the Alpha IR. Plan to install during the annual inspection later this month. I have learned alot from this forum. Glad to be a new member. Thanks again.
  7. Seeking advice on installing shoulder harness kits in a 1967 M20F. Currently have only the lap belts. From prior posts, it appears the shoulder harness kits are only available for the front seats. The only kit that I can find are those offered by Alpha Aviation, although prior posts have referenced AMSAFE and LASAR. I also would like to hear thoughts on inertial reel versus the fixed strap. I assume the inertial reel will be more convenient and worth the extra costs, but would like to hear from those with experience. Thanks for your help. Tom N6304Q
