So sad. Plain and simple....flying is dangerous! It takes constant vigil and hard work to mitigate the dangers.

To Powerflow or not to Powerflow - That is the question
fantom replied to Bart Chilcott's topic in General Mooney Talk
LOL In aviation it's common, especially with so many of us spending too much time patting ourselves on the back for our smart, but subjective, choices, and precious little time admitting our mistakes. Sorta like unreported gear ups. -
Mid to high 60's and sunny on Saturday!

Roshard....plan a trip to New Smyrna Beach this Saturday morning. You'll get your fill of Mooney planes and pilots!

Last month's fly-in had 9 Moneys, 1 Lake, and several cars deliver 20 people to Fort Pierce on a beautiful VFR day. Our next event will be this Saturday, April 8, at the Lost Lagoon Restaurant, New Smyrna Beach Airport (KEVB), starting at 11:30AM Future Schedule: April 8, New Smyrna Beach (EVB) May 13, Flagler (FIN) June 10, Sebring (SEF) July 8, Williston (X60) August 12, Lake Wales (X07) September 9, Lakeland (LAL) October 14, Flagler (FIN) November 11, Vero Beach (VRB) December 9, Punta Gorda (PGD) Please e-mail Dave at daveanruth@aol.com by Thursday night and let him know if you plan on attending. He then lets the restaurant know the approximate head count. 'Stuff happens' and plans change, so no one is obligated to attend if something comes up. The weather is great this time of year. Take to the sky and meet other Mooney pilots!

Future Schedule: March 11, Fort Pierce (FPR) April 8, New Smyrna Beach (EVB) May 13, Flagler (FIN) June 10, Sebring (SEF) July 8, Williston (X60) August 12, Lake Wales (X07) September 9, Lakeland (LAL) October 14, Flagler (FIN) November 11, Vero Beach (VRB) December 9, Punta Gorda (PGD) David requests that you can e-mail him (daveanruth@aol.com) by Thursday night to let him know if you plan to attend. The KAP A/P with a slaved HSI, which almost all of them have....is just as helpful as a KFC150. The KAP is more reliable over the long term, and the only visual pilot difference is the KFC flight director that bounces around so much it's a distraction when really needed. This ain't the same flight director has the heavy iron has. The distinction is so minor, as to be meaningless, unless you have 'airline pilot wannabe' issues.

I'm so glad I finally read this thread. An incredible story, as one of your 9 lives was used up Dan. Get back in the saddle as soon as possible. Good that lots of frugal Mooney pilots are checking their detectors and maybe investing in new or better equipment. Almost everything in this thread reflects what's valuable about MS, in my option. I'm also believing you had a very capable co-pilot, Dan. Well done!

Depends on how much you want it and what you can afford -
The last fly-in was a blast with 10 Mooney's, and a few cars, bringing 24 people together, with a lot of EAA folks, for a cookout at the EAA Hanger in Leesburg. After lunch most went to David and Ruth's home and ran model trains. It was a great day. Our next event will be this Saturday, February 11, to Bartow (KBOW). All events start at 11:30. Future Schedule February 11, Bartow (BOW) March 11, Fort Pierce (FPR) April 8, New Smyrna Beach (EVB) May 13, Flagler (FIN) June 10, Sebring (SEF) July 8, Williston (X60) August 12, Lake Wales (X07) September 9, Lakeland (LAL) October 14, Flagler (FIN) November 11, Vero Beach (VRB) December 9, Punta Gorda (PGD) David appreciates it if you can e-mail him (daveanruth@aol.com) by Thursday night to let him know if you plan on attending, He then calls the restaurant on Friday with an approximate head count. No one is obligated to come if they told him they would come, but then can’t make it. Do some flying and meet lots of Mooney drivers.

All those cars living outside are in BIG trouble

Nice move George....and you'll still have the throttles in your left hand and the stick yoke in your right hand.

The EAA hanger area should work. Good luck!

Dear Mooney Enthusiast, We had great weather for our last event and 7 Mooneys and 1 Beechcraft Skipper brought 16 people together at Punta Gorda to visit, eat, and have a great excuse to fly our airplanes. Our next event will be this Saturday, January 14 at Leesburg (LEE). Since there is no restaurant at the airport, EAA Chapter 534 is going to cook hamburgers and hot dogs for us. After lunch we will car pool (weather permitting) to our house and run model trains in the back yard. We have 1,000 feet of G-guage track in 4 loops and will probably have 6 or 8 trains running. It is about a 20 minute car ride from the Leesburg airport. All events start at 11:30. Please check your e-mail before attending as sometimes I make last minute changes of various reasons. Future Schedule January 14, Leesburg (LEE) EAA Chapter 534 will cook hamburgers and hot dogs for us at their hanger. Then after lunch we will drive anyone interested to our house to see Ruth’s garden railroad with 1,000 feet of G gauge track in four loops. Weather permitting we will probably have 6 or 8 trains running. February 11, Bartow (BOW) March 11, Fort Pierce (FPR) April 8, New Smyrna Beach (EVB) May 13, Flagler (FIN) June 10, Sebring (SEF) July 8, Williston (X60) August 12, Lake Wales (X07) September 9, Lakeland (LAL) October 14, Flagler (FIN) November 11, Vero Beach (VRB) December 9, Punta Gorda (PGD) I really appreciate it if you can e-mail me by Thursday night of the week of the event and let me know if you are going to try to make it, so I can call the restaurant on Friday with a head count. No one is obligated to come if they told me they are coming and can’t make it for mechanical, weather, health, or any other reason. Hope to see you soon, Dave and Ruth

Notice from Dave....please answer him directly at daveanruth@aol.com Dear Mooney Enthusiast, Our last event was canceled because of Hurricane Mathew. Hopefully no one went. Our next event will be this Saturday, November 12, at Vero Beach (VRB). All events start at 11:30. Please check your e-mail before attending as sometimes I make last minute changes of various reasons. Future Schedule November 12, Vero Beach, (VRB) December 10, Punta Gorda, (PGD) January 14, Leesburg (LEE). Will will be fed EAA Chapter 534. and then those that would like to see Ruth’s Garden RR running will be car pooled to and from our house. I really appreciate it if you can e-mail me by Thursday night of the week of the event and let me know if you are going to try to make it, so I can call the restaurant on Friday with a head count. No one is obligated to come if they told me they are coming and can’t make it for mechanical, weather, health, or any other reason. QUESTION: Every once in awhile I get asked to have an event in the Panhandle, but have always refused because I did not know of any airports in the Panhandle with a restaurant we could taxi up to. This past weekend I was at Panama City Beach for the Mooney Summit ( a very nice, well run event ) and found out there is a restaurant on the airport about 1/2 mile from the FBO. The FBO would run us to and from the restaurant. So, please let me know if you would or would not be interested in flying to Panama City Beach for a Mooney Lunch. If I did it I would pick a month that was unlikely to have afternoon thunderstorms for the return trip. Hope to see you soon, Dave and Ruth

...Ran into him at a Lakeland night spot, during SunNFun about ten years ago. Most interesting guy, and of course an amazing pilot. Later, noticed him in the parking lot with two youg ladies. Fighter pilots never change..... RIP, Bob.

Do you wash your hands after that, paying close attention to your fingers, right Bill? +5 for Plexus

Dear Mooney Enthusiast, Our last event was very pleasant. We met at the parking lot next to the sefl serve fuel at Lake Wales and the airport manager drove us to the terminal. When we all arrived he piled all 15 of us into one very large van and drove us 4 or 5 minutes to a restaurant. He ate there also, so was there when we were ready to go back to the airport. It worked very smoothly. Our next event is thia Saturday, September 10, at 11:30 at Lakeland (LAL). In October we will be going to Premier in Fort Lauderdale (FXE) for lunch. They will have sandwiches, etc. for us in their hanger. After lunch their maintenance people will put on a presentation. I would like suggestions about what you would like to hear about. All events start at 11:30.Please check your e-mail before attending as sometimes I make last minute changes of various reasons.Future ScheduleSeptember 10, Lakeland (LAL).October 8, Ft. Lauderdale (FXE) Premier will be hosting us in their hanger.November 12, Vero Beach, (VRB) December 10, Punta Gorda, (PGD)I really appreciate it if you can e-mail me by Thursday night of the week of the event and let me know if you are going to try to make it, so I can call the restaurant on Friday with a head count. No one is obligated to come if they told me they are coming and can’t make it for mechanical, weather, health, or any other reason.Hope to see you soon,Dave and Ruth
