  1. Seven Mooney's, one Cessna, and one Navion brought 17 people together at Sebring for some great visiting and good food last month. The weather was basically VFR except for some rain on the west coast that delayed one couple getting home. The next meeting will be this Saturday, August 13, at Lake Wales. We will meet at the parking area near the self service fuel, and the airport manager will run us to Woodie's BBG in a city owned van. He assures me it will only be a 4 or 5 minute ride. They will also run us back after lunch. All events start at 11:30.Future Schedule August 13, Lake Wales (X07). We will be driven by the airport 4 or 5 minutes away to Woodies BBQ.September 10, Lakeland (LAL).October 8, Ft. Lauderdale (FXE) Premier will be hosting us in their hanger.November 12, Vero Beach, (VRB) December 10, Punta Gorda, (PGD)Please e-mail Deave (daveanruth@aol.com) by Thursday night to let him know if you are going to attend so he can give the restaurant an approximate head count. No one is obligated to come if something comes up at the last minute. Come on out....
  2. Sometimes....but in their case, they charge double for it. You will not find a better Mooney painting than Hawk. Mine was painted there 6 years ago, after visiting a many shops and talking to many more. Joe at Hawk is the best.
  3. David reports a great time was had last month at Williston. While Ruth and David had to drive because of head colds, 7 Mooneys, 1 Cessna 310, and 1 Bonanza were there with 18 people in attendance. We had a good time visiting, telling tall tales and the food was OK. Our next event will be this Saturday, July 9, at Sebring KSEF. All events start at 11:30AM Future Schedule July 9, Sebring, (SEF) August 13, Lake Wales (X07). We will be driven by the airport 4 or 5 minutes away to Woodies BBQ. September 10, Lakeland (LAL). October 8, Ft. Lauderdale (FXE) Premier will be hosting us in their hanger. November 12, Vero Beach, VRB) Please e-mail David (DaveanRuth@aol.com) by Thursday night to let him know if you are planning to attend. He then calls the restaurant on Friday with an approximate head count. No one is obligated to come if they then can’t make it for mechanical, weather, health, or any other reason. Get out and do some flying!
  4. I have a set of new, undrilled LASAR Wing Tip lenses, still wrapped in their protective covering. I paid $135 each for them, plus tax and shipping. Make me a reasonable offer for the pair.......
  5. This particular accident is a confluence other divergent vested interests at a different time. It's not nearly as absolute as you suggest.
  6. While some may know the truth about the crash eventually, don't hold your breath or expect to be included. The Egyptians have to protect their carrier, the French need to protect their manufacturing business, and the USA has the DOJ to 'alter' anything that isn't in the best interest of the administration. Money, politics, and self interests. A wonderful trifecta.... CAIRO, June 19 (Reuters) - Investigators have begun analyzing the two severely damaged black boxes from EgyptAir flight MS804 as they seek to explain why the plane plunged into the sea, killing all 66 people on board. It would require "lots of time and effort" to fix the two badly damaged black box recorders, sources on Egypt's Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee told Reuters on Sunday. The committee said it started the analysis of the devices, with representatives from France and the United States, which are crucial to explaining why the Airbus A320 crashed on May 19 en route from Paris to Cairo. The memory units from both the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the Flight Data Recorder were extracted from the devices and dried in a military facility for eight hours, the committee said in a statement. Investigators are now conducting electrical tests on the memory units, the final step before trying to extract data. If intact, the cockpit recorder should reveal pilot conversations and any cockpit alarms, as well as other clues such as engine noise. But crash experts say it may provide only limited insight into the reason for the crash. With the data recorder, investigators have a greater chance of discovering the cause, provided its chip is still intact. Investigators need to further analyze the memory units before deciding if they can be fixed locally or if they need to be sent abroad for repairs. Search teams retrieved the Cockpit Voice Recorder on Thursday which they said was damaged but had the memory unit intact. They found the Flight Data Recorder on Friday.
  7. It will be a long haul for the family...praying for them. DONE
  8. Much better odds for you and your family of staying healthy on professionally flown commercial carriers, but not as much 'fun' for the weekend GA pilot.
  9. The odds of it being his time increase exponentially if he focuses on the 'fun' of flying, at the expense of the 'work' of flying....always being on top of your flying and planning responsibilities. Other than owner's skimping on maintenance, I believe this is the major cause of guys running out of 'luck'.
  10. It's just my way of flying, but when everything is going to poop, especially on takeoff, you best have a very good feel for your plane and basic airmanship. All the bells and whistles going off, the passengers questioning, if not screaming, and your $15K GPS's plus other gizmos flashing colors and giving you more alarms...will probably not help IMH experience. Practice, training, planning beforehand, more training, serious practice, a cool head, and did I say professional training, just may save you, your bacon, and your family.
  11. In three decades of having planes both hangered and outside, never an issue. Look for rain clouds for a quick rinse. Same for the Posche in my garage.
  12. We had a great time at our last event. Good weather, 8 Mooneys, 1 RV12, and a couple of cars brought 19 folks together for lunch at Flagler. Our next event will be this Saturday, June 11, at Williston (X60). (Today’s self serve gas price there is $3.27 according to Foreflight). All events start at 11:30. Future Schedule: June 11, Williston (X60) July 9, Sebring, (SEF) August 13, Lake Wales (X07). We will be driven from the airport to Woodies BBQ about 5 minutes away. September 10, Lakeland (LAL). Dave requests you e-mail him by Thursday night to let him know if you are planning to attend; he then calls the restaurant on Friday with an approximate head count. Of course, no one is obligated to come if they told him they were planning on attending but then couldn't make it for whatever reason. Come on out and do some flying.
  13. Having flown on flyboys old passenger seat, and having had lots of time in a 252 with a sunk down seat, I might consider buying it just to be able to see where I'm going when flying with someone else. Will it fit in a flight bag? Flyboy, you're basically asking half of what you paid for both of them, right? Stick to your price....someone will grab it, but probably not a C driver
  14. Winter Park is just north of Orlando, on I-4. Maybe Deland Taylor Muni, KDED, would work.
  15. Just in case there is any confusion, we are meeting at Flagler (FIN) since the restaurant at Winter Haven is closed. See you Saturday!
  16. We had a great time at our last event. Seven Mooney's, two Lakes, and some cars brought 18 people to lunch at New Smyrna Beach. Our next meeting is this Saturday, May 14, at FLAGLER (FIN). THIS IS A CHANGE BECAUSE OUR PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED RESTAURANT CLOSED. Future events are on the second Saturday of every month starting at 11:30. Please check your e-mail before attending as sometimes there are last minute changes. Future Schedule: June 11, Williston (X60) July 9, Sebring, (SEF) August 13, Lake Wales (X07). We will be driven by the airport 4 or 5 minutes away to Woodies BBQ. Please email Dave (daveanruth@aol.com) by Thursday night to let him know if youwill try to make it. He then gives the restaurant an approximate head count. No one is obligated to come after they told Dave they're coming, but then can't make it. Get your Mooney up in the air and attend.
  17. With an MT prop, it would really be smooth
  18. Dear Mooney Enthusiast, I have just learned that two of our normal restaurants have and or are closing. Tomorrow is the last day for the restaurant at Winter Haven (GIF) where we were going next month. So, instead we will be going to High Jacker’s at Flagler on May 14. I will send my normal reminder in a couple of weeks, but wanted to “pre-warn” everyone. The airport in St. Augustine has also closed and since I was planning to go there in August I had to make other arrangements. In August we will be going to Lake Wales (X07) where there is no restaurant on the airport, but we will park in the area near the self service fuel and the airport manager will meet us with a large van and drive us 4 or 5 minutes to Woody’s BBQ restaurant. He will also drive us back to our airplanes after lunch. Sorry about the short notice on August, but apparently the airport did not give the restaurant much notice that they wanted a different kind of operation in the space. Dave
  19. The Last Fighter Pilot Of WW2 Listen carefully to what he says and how he says it. Ask yourself, how many of the few surviving WW II veterans kept themselves and their uniform in such good condition for over 70 years and can still proudly wear it? Notice his superb delivery, no teleprompter, no script. Just a 91-year-old fighter pilot representing the greatest generation at home and abroad who won WW II. He has some surprises near the end and a great take on the philosophy of life. Too bad there are so few like him today. https://www.dvidshub.net/video/395572/jerry-yellin-world-war-ii-veteran-interview#.Vwf3T7H2bX4
  20. MTBF probably 30,000 hours.
  21. We had a great turnout last month.16 Mooney's and several cars brought 36 people to Ocala to eat some good food, tell some tall tales and have a great time. Our next meeting will be this Saturday, April 9, at New Smyrna Beach (KEVB). Future monthly events all are the second Saturday, starting at 11:30. Future Schedule April 9, New Smyrna Beach (EVB) May 14, Winter Haven (GIF) June 11, Williston (X60) July 9, Sebring, (SEF) Dave would appreciate it if you e-mail him (daveanruth@aol.com) by Thursday night to let him know if you are going to attend. He then lets the restaurant know the approximate head count. No one is obligated to come if they said they are coming, but can't make it. Come on out...you can use the flying practice, and seeing lots of Mooney's on the flight line is always a thrill.
  22. Pilots are people who drive airplanes for other people who can't fly. Passengers are people who say they fly, but really just ride. Fighter Pilots are steely eyed, weapons systems managers who kill bad people and break things. However, they can also be very charming and personable. The average fighter pilot, despite sometimes having a swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring. (However, these feelings don't involve anyone else.) Flying is a hard way to earn an easy living. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society. The optimist invents the airplane; the pessimist, the parachute. Death is just nature's way of telling you to watch your airspeed. As a pilot only two bad things can happen to you (and one of them will): a. One day you will walk out to the aircraft, knowing it is your last flight. b. One day you will walk out to the aircraft, not knowing it is your last flight. There are rules and there are laws: The rules are made by men who think that they know how to fly your airplane better than you. The laws (of physics) were ordained by God. You can and sometimes should suspend the rules, but you can never suspend the laws. About Rules: a. The rules are a good place to hide if you don't have a better idea and the talent to execute it. b. If you deviate from a rule, it must be a flawless performance (e.g., if you fly under a bridge, don't hit the bridge.) Before each flight, make sure that your bladder is empty and your fuel tanks are full. He who demands everything that his aircraft can give him is a pilot; he who demands one iota more is a fool. There are certain aircraft sounds that can only be heard at night and over the ocean. Most of them are scary. The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits. "If the Wright brothers were alive today, Wilbur would have to fire Orville to reduce costs." (President, DELTA Airlines.) In the Alaskan bush, I'd rather have a two-hour bladder and three hours of gas than vice versa. An old pilot is one who can remember when flying was dangerous and sex was safe. Airlines have really changed; now a flight attendant can get a pilot pregnant. I've flown in both pilot seats. Can someone tell me why the other one is always occupied by an idiot? And my favorite; You have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both.
  23. Thanks for the clarification, and good to know restoration is in progress, before it 'baked away.'
  24. Rotting away in Arizona. Very interesting history: Ike's Constallation
