  1. NOW we know the real reason you call her "the mistress"!
  2. Seems that '65 was when it changed. Far as I know, it changed across the board. My '70 C has the full length rudder. the Why part probably has to do with manufacturing methods and/or improved crosswind control when landing.
  3. I recommend thus stuff. Works great! Easy to use, but you'll need lots of microfiber wipes to buff it out.
  4. There's a great chop house at Arnold Palmer, in the old terminal. Took the wife there for Valentine's dinner one year when we lived in WV. Great cold weather performance, crank engine to level cruise 7000' higher with power set and leaned in less than 15 minutes. The food was pretty good, the ramp had been ploughed and the snow was piled at least 8' high around the edges. Nice larger than life bronzes of Arnold out front. leaving that evening was my first experience with embedded centerline lights. I was cleared to depart, rolled over a couple with good thumps (no oleos, right?). Just before I began my takeoff roll, tower asked if there was anything wrong. Just a country boy not used to fancy, big city ways! I taxied around those big, bumpy runway lights . . .
  5. dxb's last post makes me think I may not be too sharp on an approach after flying for a while, but that there are no long-term health effects to worry about. please correct me if I am wrong. <anyone else notice no capitalization for new paragraphs? It works on all other sentences.>
  6. If only I could buy a real car that performs like those do . . . Even my Mooney doesn't respond like the in line simulators.
  7. The PC system is very nice. Having tha AccuTrak with heading bug is wonderful! My box is mounted at the bottom right, beside the right yoke (not in this photo). Notice the pointer on the DG, that's what controls the PC servos. Well, with a little help from another box mounted in the tail cone . . . The Roll Trim knob is hidden by the yoke.
  8. I have read articles in aviation magazines about possible cumulative effects from flight 8-12K, where mild hypoxia may be present. The onset is, of course, highly variable between people, and also variable over time for a given individual as they age and their health and fitness levels fluctuate. is this something that those of us who never fly in the Oxygen levels need to worry about? My C just won't go that high, and climb rates are generally T or below 500 fpm by 10K if not before. No, I do not own an oxygen system nor a pulse ox meter.
  9. Mike, I've been carrying it around for three days now . . . You mean I have to put it in the mail too?
  10. Woo-hooo! Anthony is back! Just took a little extra skull sweat and some of what we call "fixin" down here. Bet that makes your New Jersey breakfast taste better, too. Got a little mower, some bar stock, a few doodads and screws . . . Now a plane that you can move by yourself. It's a whole different job than pushing around my little C.
  11. Virginia is a Southern state, away from DC. Culturally and geographically, to say nothing of weather-wise, West Virginia is completely different. Nice people, though. Where I'm from, a rare snowfall means that everyone stays home until the roads melt clear. It was quite a shock to me, having been in WV and OH for almost 15 years, coming back South again, everyone was startlingly polite. All the tea is sweet, and barbecue is pork. To Yankees, barbecue means to cook (anything) on a grill; to us, it is smoked pork, served with sauce and usually Cole slaw and baked beans, although other sides are often available. (Don't tell this to anyone in Texas . . . They think barbecue is BEEF! ) besides, WV broke away from VA in 1863, specifically to exchange their gray uniforms for blue, because they had more in common with those people than the Confederacy. of course, if you're in Canada, most of the country is "the South."
  12. At the top, press Downloads. Then scroll to Highest Rated. My Owners Manual is there from 1970. If I out in the Parts/Service Manual, I think they go through 1974, for C-F models. by the way, my C has electric flaps & gear and a modern panel layout, from the factory, so some of the V speeds and procedures may be different from what you're used to.
  13. There used to be a Documents section on the home page. Since the homepage no longer exists (I get an error every time I try to go there), I don't know where it is anymore, or even if it still exists. if you can find it, you can upload a copy of the file to share. My own Owners Manual is there, don't recall if I put the Parts or Service Manuals there.
  14. That's because the Aircraft Linemen have a weak union. NJ is a hotbed of unioneers and supporters. So is WV. I'm so glad to be back in the South!
  15. I've visited 2000' grass strips along the river bank at 550 msl in the summer [temps ~95ºF]. You figure the DA. Don't like the sound of gravel with a propeller . . . although I'm heartened and surprised that piperpainter's plane is reportedly not dinged and chipped badly from all of the back country flying that he does. I have the same plane and would never attempt some of the places he goes. It's all about your comfort level, and how proficient you are. I know my limits: 2000', two people, half tanks. That's me and one other for two.
  16. if Mike is all proxied out, I'll be there Friday morning. PM your wish list(s) to me, as long as I don't want the same thing, you'll be good.
  17. I may have an old paperback at the hangar. I'll check this weekend during pitot static check. Gotta be ready for Summit!
  18. I'm not even sure where to look up the new freq, or what it's called . . . Guess I can give preps to ATC, but they won't like getting quizzed for what's going on ahead of me.
  19. In the last 47 years, your paint has faded and will no longer match the originals. Take an inspection panel (or the radio access panel) to an auto paint store and they can match it just like the big box stores will match wall paint to a color sample. This can hold off a full repaint or large touch up for a while.
  20. PMcClure, Let me know when you reach this part of the state. The weather right now is beautiful!
  21. I have one of the oil pan heaters. Works great! Bought a lightweight extension cord to travel with. Driving to the airport the night before to plug in works; having to go back in the snow the next day to unplug got old. I bought a cell switch in the Vendor forum here from philipny, and really love it. Comes in handy since moving back South, too, where it's less cold for a short time and never snows.
  22. I've been using my Halos since 2009, and this still happens to me sometimes! I gave away my foam inserts. Silicone ones are $2-3 per pair, and comes with 2 pair, I think. My originals were white, replacement ones were gray. Don't think color makes a difference. And the Halos let you wear a real hat, not just a ball cap with the top button cut off. Here's me taking a friend to ride, wearing my winter hat while still living in West-by-Gawd, Virginny.
  23. My home field 06A is $4.02 full serve right now, if you're in Lower Alabama.
  24. Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em!! So will your favorite pax. I use the silicone plugs, don't like how the foamies fit, but wear them at work because I have to. They are cheap, which makes it easy to loan to passengers.
  25. Sad to see them go. Didn't use them often, but it was reassuring to check weather ahead and find it breaking up as forecast (or not). Always knowing the frequency was a benefit, too, but recently as VORs shut down, Flight Watch was increasingly hard to reach in those places where I needed it the most (S. WV, VA southwest, E. TN, W. NC), areas where you could count on the weather and winds to change and civilization was far away. Now many of the VORs are gone, and I'll need to look up frequencies to get weather. Many places through there have no AWOS/ASOS within reception distance, or they will be NOTAMed OOS, or have "ceiling unavailable" or "reported winds not reliable." guess I'll go study up on how to check weather ahead while I'm crossing the mountains . . . It's rarely even similar on both sides, and in the middle is often different from the two sides. there is little discussion because it has been presented as a fiat accompli, and no discussion will change anything. In fact, the announced schedule has even been accelerated.
