  1. Quote: N201MKTurbo I've had a plane with the M20 Turbo for 7 years and I think it is a better plane then a 231. It has been fairly trouble free. I had to get the pressure controller and turbo overhauled, the turbo mount has cracked a couple of times, an exhaust pipe cracked, had to replace the seal in the scavenger pump, the exhaust heat shields have broken a couple of times.... Well maybe not that trouble free, but not much more then any other turbo installation. I have had the plane up to FL220. The critical altitude is supposed to be FL190, but mine is FL210, above that the manifold pressure is a bit unstable. I have seen ground speeds as high as 260 KTS flying up high. It doesn't happen often but is cool when it does!
  2. Quote: KLRDMD Never flown in a Mooney before but bought one. Wow !
  3. http://www.companycasuals.com/texassewwhat/start.jsp Here is a link to a local Kerrville company that does the embroidery work for the factory. They told me that they have many sizes of the Mooney emblems that would fit any garment, caps, jackets, etc, etc...... I walked in because my high school freshman needed embroidered shirts for his school logo and bingo, there was the Mooney display. David

  9. good job, staying smart. Wish I was smart :)
  10. Quote: scottfromiowa For those on a budget, just wanted to report that my Accu-Trak installation went well (with some trouble-shooting) and is traking GPS (GNC 300XL) as stated. When I installed my inital short flight went well, but transponder was flakey (I had center stack trays moved with install of a KX155)...and then radio (in GNC 300XL)...and then the GPS didn't acquire...All were related to Co-AX.. I think the antenna wasn't hooked up on last as there was "no charge"...so after three fixer flights had plane up and once trimmed at altitude the Accu-Trak does a nice job of holding GPS input course. This is NOT a bad cost effective option if you have a functioning PC in your plane... Just thought I'd update my result. Scott
  11. Quote: Jeff_S There will be no one right answer. From what you've said about the pre-buy inspection, there doesn't seem to be anything catastrophically wrong with the plane that can't be fixed up. The engine and prop are low flight time since overhaul, but what about actual calendar time? That's always a consideration, because if it hasn't been flown a decent amount then you have some risk of corrosion and leaky seals. When I was buying my first plane, the best advice I got was to really consider two things: Corrosion in the wings or airframe, and condition "firewall forward." Any significant corrosion in the main frame or wings was a deal-killer, as would be any significant problems with the engine. It doesn't sound like this plane has either of those. So if you can buy this for $50K, budget for $9K to reseal tanks, $9K for an exterior refinish and corrosion clean-up, and a miscellaneous $5K for engine repair (leaks and things), you've got a pretty airworthy machine for $73K. Then you decide whether you want to spruce up the interior ($8-10K), put in modern avionics ($25-50K depending on what you want) and do anything else that will make it more enjoyable. You could easily have a $150K machine but it would be pretty nice. Compare that to what you can get on the market today in something similar, and decide whether you want to "buy and fly" or "buy and fix". That will make your decision for you.
  12. Would you consider working with an established shop, say Dugosh or Maxwell, or someone close to you, just because? Not work with an established shop, just because? Just thinking out loud....
  13. Quote: tony I just bought my m20F last week. I'd love to get a copy of both.
  14. Quote: hansel You'll have a great time. I'm jealous. My father is the coowner of a fishing lodge in Soldotna and raves about the backcountry all the time http://www.alaskaslastfrontier.com/ You should also check out getting a float rating with Vern in Moose Pass http://www.alaskafloatratings.com/ My primary instructor from LA fell in love with the Kenai Penninsula and decided to move up there to teach with Vern. Have fun!
  15. Quote: Parker_Woodruff Got the airplane back today. Pablo at Aero Comfort is a real professional. It's beautiful. Don Maxwell did the install while I had another squawk taken care of. (Plane went in for a new bearing on the rudder linkage and came out with a new interior). Photos are from on the way home with my Cell phone (slightly bad quality & distortion). when I get the good camera out I'll update them...prolly tomorrow. And yes, the New Airplane Smell was included.
  16. Taking my family to The Kenai Penninsula, Staying in Soldotna, AK to fish the salmon run, halibut charter, and dig for razor clams!!!! This my second trip, my wifes fourth, and my boys first! I hope my boys catch their limit!!! Be back on Aug 1st. David
  17. Quote: GoDores The exact same one that was on there, a lightweight Sky-Tec 149NL. Fortunately a pretty common model and the local shop had one, although it was $150 more than from Aircraft Spruce On edit: it failed on a Sunday night 600nm away from home - this wasn't a voluntary or preventive replacement. I was stuck.
  18. It does not hurt to talk to Richard. You tell him, or give him a wish list, and let him run with it. If he does nothing, so what? You don't stop looking just because he is. Yes he is a salesman but I say again, so what. He might fall into a deal because he is in the business, and give you a call. If you are any the business man, you can handle the/his process. My humble opinion.
  19. Quote: rampilot Ricardo - I'm late in chiming in on this post, but if you're still looking for an Ovation, my '99 is available. Although no AC, it does have a lot of the other things you're looking for at a very attractive price point. Feel free to PM me for details. (Not sure if you got it, but I also sent you a PM this morning) Thanks and good luck in your search! ram
  20. Quote: GoDores Thanks for the help! We were able to get the mixture cable tightened, and that appeared to solve that problem - the knob stayed still over almost 10 hours of flying this weekend. Unfortunately it looks like the ram air cable will have to be replaced. Probably won't get to that for a little while, since we had to replace the starter this weekend
  21. I watched an interview with the owner of said $650,000 plane today. He was VERY gacious and forgiving during the interview. I am sure not everyone would have been so. Not sure wether to applaude or laugh at the man who is now "hopeful that his insurance company will treat him fairly" and that his "heart melted" when he first saw the pictures of the kid in chains...... His words!!!!!
  22. Quote: rob I wonder if Don accepts "demys" as customers. If I were advising a business owner in today's politically charged climate, I might recommend that he avoid insulting (even in humor) a significant portion of his already focused customer base.
  23. Dugosh in Kerrville.
  24. "Just how hard would it be to fabricate a second door on the damn thing" is what I used to say to myself.
