At first annual, have found illegal engine modifications
Greg Ellis replied to hmasing's topic in General Mooney Talk
Just checking if you saw this earlier in this discussion. https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/225165 The OP says this was him. -
I will be there with one other. Greg and Sam. Thanks.

Also, just be mindful of the fact that if you are purchasing an aircraft at this time be wary of the ADS B mandate coming up in a few short months (unless the FAA extends it which they swear they are not going to). This aircraft is not ADS B out compliant. You would need to budget that into your purchase as well as the time that it would take to do it since a lot of shops are getting backed up from what I hear. Just a couple of things to consider if you plan on purchasing before the end of the year.

ADS-B Out Compliant and then some!!!
Greg Ellis replied to Greg Ellis's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Thanks. I am enjoying the panel. LPV approaches are great. Now just need an autopilot. -
ADS-B Out Compliant and then some!!!
Greg Ellis replied to Greg Ellis's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
All of the work was done at Fort Worth Spinks by Cam Aircraft. Cliff Millican is the owner. I can look up the other info for you. They are not cheap. In fact probably very expensive when compared to others. But the work was done well, I think. I was kept in the loop the whole time. They cleaned up a bunch of very old wiring. Some were live wires leading no where. So I have all new wiring along with the new panel. They assigned one guy to my plane except for the install of the EDM sensors etc where the Head A&P/IA did that work. I will PM you with the specifics in the next couple of days. Currently I am away from that information. -

How many M22s are still flying?

There are photos of the one with the gear collapse here when it was being salvaged. http://www.kwsalvage.com/detail.asp?offset=72 -
How many M22s are still flying?
Greg Ellis replied to Stephan Wilkinson's topic in General Mooney Talk
A quick search of the planes that are still registered with the FAA shows that according to Flightaware.com, 2 of them have flown within the last 7 months, One was last flown in 2018 and one last flown in 2017. -
How many M22s are still flying?
Greg Ellis replied to Stephan Wilkinson's topic in General Mooney Talk
That is a really good question. The FAA website shows 15 in their US Database all with current registrations and all but one have been renewed into 2021 or 2022. However, a deeper dive on some of these shows them not to have flown in a long time. One of them had a last reported flight on Flightaware 24 years ago!!! Did not know they kept a history of flights since before the website existed. But I am sure with a little research you could probably track down at least the number in the United States that are flying. Sorry this does not help much but may be a place to start your research. -
Trim position on take-off in a short body?
Greg Ellis replied to Prior owner's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
1963 C model. This is a photo of my elevator with the trim in T/O position. Compared to Chris Calandro, mine is pretty even with the horizontal stabilizer. -
M20K - usable fuel or fill to the max
Greg Ellis replied to NicoN's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I also burp my tanks when I am filling and set the EDM 900 to 48 gals (1963 M20C). When a lineman fills from a fuel truck I just add the amount they fill on the EDM 900 because they never burp the tanks nor do they even make it to the top sometimes. This seems to be quite accurate for my airplane. -
Hard 8 in Stephenville got rid of their golf cart. They will however send someone to the airport to pick you up if you call the restaurant when you arrive. They are very happy to do that.

Sporty's Cincinnati Avionics Shop BEWARE
Greg Ellis replied to Davarron's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Well... as long as this has turned into a Pirep Page for good avionics shops, I will put in my 2 cents for a shop at Fort Worth Spinks Airport in Fort Worth Texas. Cam Aircraft did a great job on my panel upgrading from the original shot gun panel to ADS-B In/Out, new GPS, G5, new audio panel, and EDM 900. They did a clean install. They assign one guy to your airplane and yours alone. He does not jump around between jobs. He did a really great job and followed up on the one problem I had after the install. They are probably one of the most expensive shops in the area but they deliver for the price. -
You are correct. I should have added if you want the GPS and Comm in one unit. Forgot that part.

So, the photos are of my 1963 C model. We have owned the airplane for over 12 years. Instead of paying for a wedding, my wife and I bought the airplane, flew it out to Santa Fe from Texas and eloped in Taos, New Mexico. Photos are of the original paint, new paint, original panel and new panel. Well, the photos got out of order but you get the gist.

Probably not since as was said earlier, the 175 and 375 are GPS only and the 430/530 are GPS/Comm. So if you only need a GPS then they are a good thing. But if you need the comm as well, you are right back with the Garmin 430/530/650/750 or the Avidyne products.

I just went on to the STEC website and the 3100 is not certified for Mooney aircraft yet according to their website. It is apparently in the works but not yet certified. However, according to the website the cost to change from an STEC 30 to a 3100 will probably be far less than changing out to a GFC500.

I have purchased a few things through E-bay. Mainly inexpensive equipment for my dental office. Laboratory handpieces, etc... things that do not need to be shiny new because they are not used with patients, etc... I have never had an issue with E-bay. I know what I am getting into and I know the chances that I am taking by purchasing on E-bay and not directly from my dental supply company or the manufacturer. I recently purchased a Garmin GNC 300XL GPS/Comm off of e-bay. It worked as advertised which was great. I did so because either I did it or my avionics shop was going to do it. They purchase used avionics off of e-bay all the time when they are extremely hard to find or the manufacturer has stopped producing/supporting the instrument such as the GNC 300XL. I knew I was taking a chance but I also knew it was about the only place I could get this unit. It works and worked out fine. But I do not go to E-bay expecting brand new even when it says it is. I am trying to understand why, if it were me, I would expect Bose to do anything about this. They had nothing to do with this guy on e-bay, how he got the headsets, and they obviously were not brand new. I think if I were Bose I would have said the same thing. I am sorry but there is nothing we can do for you other than charge you to fix it. Which is what they did. I think my beef would be with the seller but good luck on collecting on that. And the OP mentioned legal action. Well, I think I would just pay Bose the $250 and have them fix it. I am not sure what you paid for the headsets (hopefully far less than new from Bose) but just consider yourself fortunate and sleep well at night knowing that you will have 4 functioning headsets. Your "legal action" would probably cost far more than the price of the 4 headsets including the repair.

I took a look at Garmin's website and it looks like they will be starting work on the Pre-J models within the next 12 months. I am happy to hear this. I originally thought they were stopping with just the J's and up. I have been flying my C model for over 12 years without an autopilot, not even the PC wing leveler. It has been fun shooting approaches to minimums without an autopilot after 4 hour IMC cross countries but it is time for me to cave and get something and it is nice to hear Garmin is working towards that. Thanks for this pirep.

64 M20C interior placard?
Greg Ellis replied to Supercop0184's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I bought some placards from Aerographics.com when I did my new panel. They may have what you need and if not they may be able to make them for you. Not sure. -
I just want to chime in here and say how great it is to have someone lurking and posting on our forums with the weather knowledge that Scott has. I appreciate that he is willing to chime in with his advice and education on our forum. Thanks Scott for hanging around here. I have learned an incredible amount of information from his avwxworkshops website and forums as well as his app WeatherSpork. I am not trying to plug his stuff. I am just passing along great information for other fellow Mooney pilots to check out if they did not already know it existed. If you want to learn more about weather and its affects on your flying check out his website and app.

Just putting in a second for the door seal remover from knots2u. It worked very well when I changed out the cabin door seal and baggage door seal on my plane.

That is a good idea although the mechanic said that nothing was fused and when he took this part of the exhaust off it came apart pretty easy at the slip joints. But it is a good idea non the less. Thanks.

Photo Gallery of Everyone’s Panels and Paint Schemes?
Greg Ellis replied to jerrodmonaghan's topic in General Mooney Talk
This is our 1963 C model. Photos of the before and after paint, you be the judge as to which is which. Panel was recently done last year. -
There was a slight smell of just the exhaust but my CO monitor did not alarm nor did it show any change at all. It was not being run LOP because my O-360 with the carburetor won't even come close to LOP.
