  7. Variation is variation. My car happens to be a min spec also. All of that model make at least the published HP, could be as much as 10% more. MOST car companies publish the highest that any engine every made. So all the ones sold have less than the published HP. But in both cases, there is a range that all the engines built fall within some range

  9. GAMI spread and EGT numbers have nothing to do with each other. And unlikely to be the same EGTs for many reasons. Starting with your comment that each engine is different. My car engine, for factory specs has a HP rating. But the factory produces engines that vary HP in a range of 10%. So my engine may put out 10% more HP than your engine in the same make, model, year car.

  11. BEST MPG happens at the Carson Speed. Which is about 1.3x best glide speed. Best efficiency, for NA, is to fly at an altitude where WOT, lowest RPM gives you an indicated air speed that is your Carson Speed.

  13. That is because there is not perfect mixing nor perfect combustion. So you need a slight increase in fuel to make sure you consume all the oxygen. ROP, power is based on air intake (MP and RPM). LOP, power is based on fuel delivered.

  15. Cougar was an interesting plane. Hit the market as a Light Light Twin in the days when the Duchess and Seminole rolled out. Mainly for the training market. O-320 engines. But the airplane was designed to be released in increasing performance versions, with a planned cabin stretch and eventually a version to compete in the Baron/310/Aztec market. So a very roomy cabin, But Gulfstream only wanted the jets, and killed the piston line. It would be interested to get one and upgrade to IO-360s. Or even TSIO-360s.
  16. It does? I need to try. Oops, I have a Mini 2 cradle. The 6 sort of fits. The Mini 2 has rounded edges and the 6 are square. So you can stuff it in there.

  20. Agreed. That is NUTS. My M3 takes a "special oil" so $12 - $18 per quart, but only 6 needed. Oil filter is on top, easy to reach. So with a MityVac, it takes maybe 15 - 20 minutes to change the oil and filter.
  21. No, THIS is a Cougar. This plane (with different paint scheme) used to be based on N71 and was available for rental. I have about 32 hours in it. Nice airplanes.
  22. These extinguishers will not do much for an after crash fire. They are intended for a small cabin fire in flight. If you have a dry chem type, before you discharge it, take a DEEP breath and hold it. You will FILL the cabin with the powder. Hold your breath for as long as you can, then open up the vents and the pilot window.
  23. To me, it doesn't make sense to spend the money to install a 25 year old tech GPS.
