  1. Where does that fall on the drier/wetter line? I know that one side of SA is much drier than the other side.
  2. I have used Blackstone almost since they were founded for my cars. I run oil analysis for the first 50,000 or so miles. Then figure I am ahead of the game. I use them for my Mooney. I called them when I purchased it and had the N number transferred to me, so I have the trend data. It is not like they just give people the data willy nilly.
  3. Starting at 55:25 there is a long piece on the "new" Mooney 252. With a lot of shots of the factory. At 31:22 starts a piece on the ill fated Porsche Mooney. In between is a look back on the first light plane moving map. Man have we come a LONG way.
  4. And track/race cars are typically full throttle open or full throttle closed, and nothing in between.
  5. The other issue with vacuum speed brakes is the bellows that actuates them. Not available. Jet Driven says he can patch them, but after a while, they will be too far gone. I have an Aspen 1000 (not Pro Mx) but with a G-55 for backup. No vacuum system'
  6. Where in Central TX? The dry part or the damp part? If the dry part, add some Cam Gaurd if you haven't already, I would fly it to get it hot, open the oil filler to let the moist air out. Maybe do an oil change if over half way. If the damp part, consider an engine dryer system. 3 months is not that long in the scheme of things. Longer than optimum, but many planes sit for 3 months several times a year. I agree that rodents may be the bigger issue.
  7. I had this issue with mine. When I took the plane to Sarasota Avionics to swap the 650 for an Xi, I mentioned this (and the KAS-297B display was dim), and they fixed both in an extra hour or so, and for a quite reasonable charge.
  8. My Dad would have a hard time with the step stool even. Maybe I could make a ramp he could crawl up. Although I have a friend with a Cardinal. Easey peasey. She seems amenable to my flying it, just have to find out the insurance issues.
  9. Or how about a TIO-540 at 350 HP ?????
  10. Older avionics, it just wasn't something they did. Newer stuff should have it. As mentioned, if no other reason that most of them have a power supply to reduce the voltage to electronics levels.
  11. I was thinking in more of a size issue. Also, with a Mooney, you sit down into it and have to climb out of it. I would love to take my 96 year old Dad for a ride, but I don't think de could get back out.
  12. There is a J a few hangars away from mine. He does Angel Flights. I would think you would need to work with them on the size and mobility of the people.
  13. My 252/Encore had the vacuum speed brakes replaced with electric. Something I did not realize before I picked it up. A nice $8000 GOOD surprise. There is an STC for them in my files.
  14. As has been mentioned, many old aircraft did not have a Alt switch, only the master. The rational I heard for starting with it On was it put less load on the coupling as the engine spun up, than engaging it with the engine running at 1000 - 1200 RPM, especially if the battery is low. That said, my POH says Off for start.
  15. One big problem is, we don't have real AI. We have complex sets of issues/responses. I read somewhere that the biggest problem with self driving cars is that people driving cars do strange things that the self-driving car cannot deal with. Once they can start dealing with the unexpected, we will be close to real AI.
  16. Yeap. Used to be a 6 weeks course (full time), something like 3 different tests and a significant failure rate.
  17. Also, the system was tested and reading 180 when the probe is in 212 water. Then in flight, as long as reading is over 130, oil is at 162
  18. One issue is, a lot of cars those things are not optional. So them buying them does not mean that they WANT them. And then poll those that had a accident where/because the automated system failed.
  19. That would help.
  20. It would help if we would actually teach people to drive. Compared to the process of getting a pilot certificate, getting a driver's license is little more handing them out on the street corner. One issue is, it is more acceptable to most people to be in control and make a mistake that to not be in control and have the computer make a mistake.
  21. Exactly. Leave putting the prop full forward until short final. Or just teach yourself Red, Blue, Black for go around.
  22. Talk to James Gallagher here on MS. He can steer you the right way and give you a great price. This week I think he is giving 10% off for SnF. But you have to contact him directly.
  23. I have a SensorCon. Search around, they have discount codes floating around.
  24. Wonderful. I am looking forward to attending my first one. The last weekend in Sept tends to be problematic for me, so hoping it does not conflict.
  25. Did you watch last season? Passing is very common now. Not only DRS, but aero changes that allow them to run closer together. Yes, I like MotoGP, and yes, they are crazy for doing what they do on bike. That is why I no longer own a bike. I know I would end up with liter sport bike, and I am too old to rol down the track at 175 MPH after falling off. Just pointing out, cars are faster. Even on the street.
