  1. Paris!! City tours like you guys have shown over NYC are not possible here, but this departure from Paris today was amazing! Oh, man, I love flying my Mooney
  2. I flew to Rotterdam (airport elevation -14 ft ) over the weekend after a looooong time grounded due to LG repairs. So nice to be in the air again! On the way home there was this cool CB, I think over Mont Blanc.
  3. This isn't in your question, but I rented a J 3 blade prop while my J 2 blade prop was in for repairs. The three blade is easier to land. Also climbs better as state above.
  4. Good grief, this hobby is expensive!! Flying is the only reason I need progressives. I can drive with my normal glasses. No need for jogging glasses (yet).
  5. Update: I finally got my "Old Girl" back today. The actuator and motor were sent to LASAR and the problem was indeed, the brushes. I got some explanations, but they were in different languages and so I didn't really understand it. I don't even understand it in English, but I did understand "brushes" and "inconsistent contact." Did one Touch 'n Go and one full stop and everything worked perfectly, except the pilot who was very rusty after two months on the ground
  6. Thanks for all the input! This is the first time I've heard the term "progressive" so now I know that. I've heard stories about them making you dizzy or nauseous or even causing falls like Fly Boomer said. I will be much more prepared when I go in for my appointment. I appreciate all the feedback Edit: I know the link says progressive lenses. I thought it was something proprietary for that guy and his product....
  7. "Great landing!" "It was a little long." (Every Mooney pilot ever, at more than one point in their life) Awesome video. Thanks
  8. At my last medical, my doctor said I had to have multifocal lens glasses before the next appointment (Feb, 2023). My distance vision needs a -1 correction and now I need a slight reading distance correction. I've been reading this website https://progressive-glasses.com/progressive-glasses-for-pilots/ Do any of you have these kind of glasses? What is it like to fly with them?
  9. Yeah, sorry, I know. I was wondering about JPI vs GI 275. I think I will go with the JPI. It's over $1000 cheaper and offers everything I need. I'm not a pro like most of you here. I just want to be as nice as I can to my engine, and have a better overview of what's going on under the hood.
  10. Same question. I'm getting a 650Xi for Com1/Nav1 and will use my existing 430 for Com2/Nav2.
  11. So.... My mechanic tried to replicate my problem. Gear up - check. Gear down - check. He then cycled the gear up and left the plane for 1-1.5 hours. Gear down - problem. Then they removed the motor and sent it to a specialist. Some things were found, but when they tested the motor, it worked. There is nothing wrong with the electrical system/relays. Now they're telling me that they can't find a problem to fix and they can't put the motor back in without fixing it. They recommend to replace it, but can't find a replacement. Any thoughts from you guys?
  12. Hi all, I'm not sure if this helps, but I recently made the worst landing of my life on St. Mary's Scilly island. It was a circling (visual) approach to RWY 14. Wind slightly off the nose at 22 kts. The approach was really turbulent due to low terrain just before the threshold. I noticed too late that the RWY had an initial incline, followed by a decline and I was super nervous so I didn't flare enough. I ended up doing a nose-wheel landing. As soon as it happened I thought, "go around!" but then I realised that I didn't have to because the plane didn't start bouncing. I think it's because my ground speed was so low (with the high and turbulent wind and the incline of the RWY) that there wasn't enough momentum to get the typical nose wheel bounce going. With hindsight, I should have initiated the go-around on short final when I was surprised by the turbulence and the incline of the runway and felt overwhelmed. I hope if confronted with feeling overwhelmed on short final in the future, that I make a better decision.
  13. The first Mooney I ever saw was the one that I bought a few months later. When I first saw it, I must admit that I was not impressed. Fast forward a few years and I think that my baby is the most amazing airplane on any tarmac anywhere. She is my forever airplane and I love her (Avionics and autopilot upgrades coming this Fall).
  14. Hi all, Long time lurker. Finally decided to join. I had this problem a couple of days ago. I couldn't get the gear down and had to bring it down manually. It's funny because when I bought my Mooney, that was my biggest fear - being alone and not having the gear extend. I will say, however, that it wasn't really a big deal to extend the gear mechanically. It was a bit strange to land with the fire brigade standing by next to the runway. Apparently the problem was - as you have pointed out - the actuator motor and associated brushes / brush caps. FYI, my Mooney is a 1977 with 3700 hours.
