  1. I learned that pitot heat is obligatory for all IFR flights, regardless of season or temperature. That being said... I usually don't use it in summer (unless I'm doing my annual IR check flight in August). The second that temps drop close to zero, with or without clouds, my pitot heat is always on.
  2. Actual footage of @ilovecornfields and me in an LA suburb:
  3. Check out N64SZ posted on the trading post. Beautiful aircraft.
  4. Thank you
  5. Thanks! It is a sticker. I am the 6th owner of the plane. I believe the second or third owner did it. He worked for https://www.pilotshop.ch which sells ICAO maps. It's the Zurich airport. For some reason, private jet pilots seem to love it. They always comment. Private jet passengers scoff. Older pilots love to point out that the map is expired, so I shouldn't use it if I get lost. When I saw the plane, it was not love at first sight, but it's pretty much iconic in Switzerland so when I say that I have the Mooney with the map on the tail, I get ooohs and aaahs in return
  6. Ok, so I didn't go right to bed. I wrote I poem: *ahem* The year has come to its end. We've seen glee, questions and steel bend. Despite all our diff's Whether COVID or meds We support the same cause. Want the best for us all. & please more of @Marauder's women!
  7. I'm so stoked about becoming a part of this awesome community this year. I'm really looking forward to all the upcoming Mooney adventures and advice and help and everything that MS offers in 2023. As an end of the year bonus, I got sick, so I'm off to bed over here. Be well, all of you
  8. You're not alone. It surprises a lot of people.
  9. Hmmm. I get what you're saying, but it's too late. My vacuum pump was removed two weeks ago. I can't go back now. I guess if I have a complete electronic failure that wipes out my panel, plus failure of the backup g5 battery, all in full IMC with no quick escape, I will accept that it is just my time and I will go in my cockpit, which is my happy place.
  10. What about the four-hour battery in the G5? Shouldn't that be enough backup? I just removed my only vacuum AI so please say yes.
  11. I cheated. Although I do get the gist of it. Go science!
  12. Biotin and Streptavidin Complex. One streptavidin protein can bind four biotin molecules with high affinity and selectivity. This enables the amplification of weak signals and improves the detection sensitivity for medium- and low-abundance targets.
  13. That's wild, but completely in line with the Swiss! Do not mess with their cows and their bells!!
  14. Happy Holidays to everyone. "Meeting" you all has been a highlight of 2022 for me.
  15. Well I, for one, bought my house because of its proximity to the airport. I love living so close that I can look out the window and decide to go flying. No one here is trying to close the airport. Some people just love to complain. FWIW, I left my previous home in Interlaken due to the noise overhead. My top floor apartment is in the middle of town, over which there are over 65'000 tandem paragliding flights every year, with tourists that don't have an athletic bone in their bodies. They scream. They scream in fear for their lives at the top of their lungs from sun up until sunset 65'000 times per year. That drove me mad. I started crying every day around 3pm and had nightmares at night. At the time I was studying for my IFR/CPL exams and was unable to concentrate. It was awful. Of course, the brain is wired to react negatively to screaming. Motors are different.
  16. Unless you live close to an airfield, especially one that has active flight schools doing circuits all day long. As a pilot, this doesn't bother me, but it does bother some of my neighbours. I know that my small village (pop. 1500) is responsible for enough noise complaints that we get mail from the airport to alert us of special events or changes in operating hours that would result in increased traffic.
  17. *tips hat* You sir, are braver than I.
  18. And, let the record show, if I could save 50k, I would do it in a heartbeat!
  19. Swapping out instruments is one thing. Updating the autopilot and integrating all the new instruments and antennas, etc. is another. I would never trust myself with this....
  20. Why does this never work? It's such a pet peeve of mine.
  21. I had this issue after an annual. It was the airspeed switch that somehow got "bumped" and pushed it up. If you have an airspeed switch and not a squat switch, have that checked. As on my profile, I have a '77 M20J. Edit: The airspeed switch should be something like 60kn +/- 5 Edit 2: Welcome to MooneySpace
  22. I assume for accuracy, but how should I know? The whole post went way over my head (pun intended).
  23. The thing I love most about this post is that it was edited
  24. If you didn't post today, I was going to ask. Good news!
  25. Not being able to open the door must have been absolutely terrifying. I can't even imagine it. I'm so, so glad that there were people there willing and able to help you out. Thank you for your updates. All the best to both of you for a full recovery.
