You weren't on with LaGuardia at all? What was your route and altitude from about 2 miles north of the GWB to the about the Intrepid? LaGuardia handled that the last few times I flew through there.

Who were you talking to? The bravo starts at 1300, but the most of that airspace is owned by Newark and LaGuardia Tower. I've flow this many times and I've always been handed off to Newark and Laguardia until either north or south of their uncharted "surface areas". Is it possible they just meant that they won't provide VFR traffic advisories in the area, not that you are outside of the bravo? I'm not sure they are required to provide VFR traffic advisories (anyone?) and might have just been giving you a warning about that. NY Approach will pick you up again just north of the GWB or south of the Verrazano. I agree it is better to do it with ATC if possible. A PA32 Lance hit a helicopter which resulted in the airspace restructuring and training requirements.

The only time I have found water in my fuel was in my old 152 which was parked outside. The first sample was about half water, next sample some drops, next sample clean, shook the wing which resulted in more drops for the next ~2 sumps, finally a few more clean sumps. No issues on runup or takeoff. I feel like it was rainwater, not contaminated fuel.

I think it is the Tamco guy again. That isn't a scam, just a really crazy avionics person. -
True, but the servo itself only has a stud and you can swap the chain with the cable.

I only met Bob once and he was happy to take me on a tour of his hangar and show his beautiful plane. He also helped me find a CFI in Morganton so I could do my checkout and fly my airplane home. RIP.

Had a Partial Power Loss Experience
cferr59 replied to FlyTy's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I had similar symptoms from a stuck float. This will cause an excessivly rich mixture at low power settings. Engine would not idle, rough when advancing throtle, hard to shut down, ran fine at full power. Fuel dripped from the carb when the fuel pump was on. I pulled the air filter to watch for fuel in the airbox, but it leaked out the bottom after a few seconds anyway. I resolved the issue by draining the carburetor a bunch of times (drain, refill with fuel pump, drain again). I used a catch can to catch the fuel and confirm there was no sediment. -
I also tend to wonder if something is wrong here. Obviously serious speculation and probably never will be proven, but medical, drugs, or alcohol? It seems like someone of sound mind would not fly into a bravo, be warned about it, and rather than get the heck out of the bravo, fly further into it and start an argument with the controller. From her initial tone, it sounds like a turn out of the bravo would have resolved the situation without the controller calling out the deviation.

Is it possible to get the FBO to let you put it in a shared hangar? When mine was at KMRN for prebuy, they just stuck it in the community hangar until I picked it up.

What is the delta? What do you have on? If you have a flashing beacon, it will cause the amperage to fluctuate. I would start by turning things off switches and pulling breakers until it stops. My 930 stays pretty steady unless I have the LED flashing beacon on.

For most pilots, it would be cheaper to join a club, but here are the reasons I bought at varying levels of importance 1.) I can make whatever decisions I want about equipment. 2.) I work during the week so mostly fly on weekends, just like other club members! And, if I need to go somewhere for work, I only need to worry about the weather, not schedule. 3.) I like to work on the plane. 4.) I can choose whatever plane I want. 5.) I can leave stuff in the plane. 6.) I have a plane. Certainly there are disadvantages to and others have mentioned them.

I'm curious what they are comparing it to. I have a lot of time in a PA-28-181 which has very similar weight and power to my M20C. To me, it seems like the the Mooney has comparable takeoff performance, comparable landing performance, and better climb performance. A review of the POH shows similar takeoff distances at similar weights which isn't particularly surprising. I always found the Archer to have pretty good performance in general so its not like I ever had a problem with that plane.

My Powerflow was not lubricated for the first 5 years of its life and nothing happened. It was lubricated last annual. I didn't personally take it apart, but it seems like it wouldn't be all that hard to do. How long does it actually take to do the lubrication?

You should be able to push the tail down. I would try pushing on the area just forward of the horizontal stabilizer for the best leverage. I used to turn my 152 around like that. Haven't needed to do it to the Mooney, but I imagine it would work. I'm not sure what mx this would help with, but you also might consider buying a stool like this for you to sit on: https://www.harborfreight.com/pneumatic-adjustable-roller-seat-46319.html

It was a pretty nice day to fly to Myrtle Beach where things are open. Jazzy the Corgi enjoyed the flight.

Emergency Landing | Baggage Door Blow Off Mid Flight | Model K
cferr59 replied to RedSkyFlyer's topic in General Mooney Talk
That is some pretty tough gear. Not exactly what I have heard about Mooney gear! -
My intake boot (P/N 600064) is not in very good shape. It has some small tears on the lower part near where it attaches to the airbox. Lasar lists the part, but is out of stock. It is also $400 dollars which seems way overpriced for what it is. Has anyone repaired one of these or found an alternate part that is available and not overpriced? Thanks,

I'm a little excited about this one:
cferr59 replied to the_elkhartian's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Being critical, I would like to see lower engine time, a full color engine monitor, a better auto-pilot, and a paint job that doesn't look like a 1990's jet ski. That said, I don't see the seller being all that flexible on price considering this is set up pretty well. It has a dual Aspen and Garmin 650... Also, why does it have a 48 gallon capacity? My 1965 C holds 52 gallons. -
70s-era nose gear door linkage hardware
cferr59 replied to Vance Harral's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I just had my 1965 apart and it is set up as follows: AN type Bolt --> Bracket --> thin spacer --> rod end --> thick spacer --> Bracket --> Washer --> Washer --> Nut Both sides have AN type bolts, not machine screws and are set up the same way. I believe the thick spacer is the 550017-005 part. I have no idea what part the thin spacer is. -
I tend to agree. The indentation around the edge appears to be a permanant deformation and I would be surprised if the deterioration occurred in a few days. Similarly, I don't believe that mine ended up like that between November and now.

That is an interesting thought. Unfortunately, mine has not been exposed to much fuel because I discovered a bad fuel pump when doing a leak check after reassembly. I guess I will get in touch with them and see if they have any thoughts. Looking at where your gasket is starting to fail, I feel that the failure mode for this would have been the same as my improper gasket had it managed to not completely split apart. In this picture, the material in my hand is the outer part of the gasket which is what is starting to shear off in your pictures. The gasket has turned inward on itself so the face you see is actually the inner edge (it is thicker than the replacement gasket so I think it is the wrong part). I'm not sure what would attack your seal that quickly. I don't think Jet-A would do it. My gascolator has a bit of blue staining, but I am surprised it didn't have a significant leak.
-
I don't know what the original screen had, but the replacement screen that I installed (P/N 10543-1) did not have a rubber seal, nor did the screen I replaced. It is sealed by the gasket pressing against it. The Lasar gasket was about half the thickness of the one previously installed on my gascolator. It looks like your gasket was developing a similar tear pattern to mine on along the edge on the right side. Interestingly, mine showed a little bit of blue staining, but did not leak in any significant way. I just bought the Lasar gasket 2 weeks ago so I hope it is not from a bad batch.

How thick is that seal? Someone installed that was too thick on mine and ended up looking like this.

I have the latest model Mini without cellular and normal size iPad with cellular. I wish I just got the cellular for the mini. I have Project Fi which provides extra SIM cards for free so the cellular doesn't cost any extra per month. I like the full size iPad better, but it is too large to fit on the yoke so I leave the mini on the yoke and use the full size as a backup and for flight planning.

Yep, there was a switcheroo. Fortunately, mine didn't go out yet because they were waiting on payment by the incorrect recipient so they dropped it off at a UPS box to try to get it to me ASAP.
