  1. I would definitely go to Linden. It is 2 miles from the train station, the train is ~40 minutes from there to Penn Station. And if you want to Uber, it isn't much further than Teterboro (depending where you are going). We got one of our club planes stuck for a few days there due to mechanical problems and it was like $20 dollars a day or somthing like that.
  2. I don't know. Kinda looks like a Mooney and Piper Apache had a child.
  3. Ok, I did a bit of testing today. I think my issue yesterday stemmed from attempting to use the Accuflite without turning on the AccuTrak. If you do that, it will not correct until it hit 30 degrees on either side of the heading. I need to take a longer cross country with it to confirm that it is 100% fine, but it turns out that this might just have been user error...
  4. Thanks, I will try a more thorough test tomorrow and try to get some video. I have mainly be testing the Accuflite with my (potentially uninformed) opinion of how it should work. I think a few test profiles with video will be more expository. I have an IFD440 with GPS/NAV and a KX-155 for secondary NAV.
  5. Here are the control panels. I primarily tested with the Accuflite II ON attempting to use the heading bug and the others in OFF, but I did attempt a few other settings with similar results. I'm planning on flying tomorrow and can try to get a few more detailed test profiles.
  6. It seems to have the same issue in both NAV and heading mode. I haven't touched any gain settings yet.
  7. I have a Brittain Accuflite and Accutrak autopilot in my new to me Mooney. The seller demonstrated using them and tracking the heading bug and VOR without issue (hands off). However, when I try to use them, they seem to correct about 30 degrees after passing the heading bug, then command a turn in the opposite direction to 30 degrees after passing the heading bug, then continues to wander back and forth in this manner.. It seems like they need some kind of adjustment. Anyone ideas on where to star troubleshooting?
  8. Unless the log is stock for the nose gear, I would say it collapsed and had a prop strike.
  9. I would guess they got the serial number on the data plate, not the N-Number.
  10. Most shops will credit the cost of the prebuy against the annual so with it coming up soon, it makes sense to have them complete the annual assuming you still want to buy the airplane.
  11. I heard that it is wired this way because the lower plugs tend to get dirtier and this evens out the RPM drop between the mags. Otherwise, you would get more drop on the magneto that fires the (dirtier) bottom plugs. Seems to make sense I suppose, but this I don't remember the source of this tidbit.
  12. I mispoke about the overhaul. We had them IRAN the mags for the 500 hour. There was no reason to overhaul them at that point. They did overhaul the mags as part of an engine overhaul.
  13. We have been using Columbia Aircraft Services in Bloomsburg, PA. They are an engine shop, but we had them overhaul at least 2 sets of mags so I guess they do that too...
  14. It is Dave's old airplane. He got a Cessna 310.
  15. I guess it does. Rieff says 2-4 hours to install. Maybe if you've done it before, but I'm going on 6+ now. But, I'm learning a lot in the process and fixing a few other minor things. Very fortunate to have an A&P that is willing to give me advice and inspect the install.
  16. Unfortunately, mine is a little taken apart because I am putting in a Rieff Preheater. Finished the epoxy today and waiting for it to cure. A&P will come by Monday to inspect.
  17. Yup, I just had to replace my pitot heat breaker/switch. $200 dollar switch!
  18. Aeroshell is semi-synthetic. One big benefit of synthetic oil is a longer change interval. Unfortunately, we can't take advantage of that because of the we use leaded fuel and the oil ends up very dirty. So, it is not worth the extra cost for Aeroshell.
  19. My LED landing light was doing this. I found that the wire insulation had rubbed trough and bare wire was rubbing against the negative terminal and shorting out intermittently. Fortunately, whoever wired it left some extra wire so I removed the bad portion of the wire and installed a new ring terminal. So, at least double check the wire going to the light before replacing anything.
  20. Flew down to the flight service station to ask about my LORAN not working. Maybe they have NOTAMS for an outage... They weren't there anymore so I tried to raise them on 122.0. Didn't work. I talked to some local pilots at that airport and they told me that soon this ADS-B thing will be required soon. Anyone else heard of it? I was thinking of adding Mode C, but maybe this is the way to go.
  21. I had a Lance panted 2 years ago for ~16k and it came out well. I got quotes from a bunch of shops and they ranged from 15k-20k. I feel like a Lance is bigger than a Mooney Bravo...
  22. Nice @Raptor05121 I also just did most of my new to me C. Paint is in good shape but had a lot of surface oxidation. I used Meguire's M110 with a variable speed polisher and M205 with a Harbor Freight DA, then wax. It is amazing what a difference it makes. It also took me about 12+ hours spread out over several days and I still have a bit left to do.
  23. Another factor to consider is financing. I was fortunate not to have to finance a significant amount, but I ended up with a Vref below what I was paying which could have limited me. I have reasons I feel it was inaccurate, but I didn't and a lot of buyers won't want to argue with their bank.
  24. That is what happened to mine. Seller was planning on keeping it, but ended up going in a different direction. So, I am pretty happy to have a JPI-930, G5 AI, and a bunch of speed mods.
  25. Keep your eye on the market and eventually you will find something. I was the first person to look at the C that I just bought because I saw it the day it was listed and then flew to Atlanta the next day. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted and this one had it all.
