Yes, that's correct, but I don't think anyone is criticizing his radio calls (or at least that was not my intention). I had said above that the radio calls appear to be indicative of him trying to troubleshoot some sort of issue or possibly some other physical impairment. In any case, I'm sure the NTSB will review them in detail along with the wreckage and timeline to see if it leads them anywhere.

Tough to say, I found the actual ATC recording and the timing mirrors the one posted to youtube. I think this was some that had started prior to the check in with tower or he was impaired in some way. Just a very odd exchange, "Tower umm...checking in", then miss 3 landing clearances, and respond by saying "go ahead tower". Any pilot who isn't a student would expect instructions immediately after checking in with tower. It's not an enroute check in where you get a "welcome" and altimeter setting. I also heard the controller speaking with the king air that landed in front of him and there wasn't any warning of weather on final.

I just came across this, someone got the ATC audio. It's impossible to draw any conclusions other than something may have been distracting the pilot (mechanical, weather, or otherwise) which made him miss several radio calls immediately after checking in. Then he responds to the low altitude alert with a "roger"... I'm assuming the audio playback is real time and not edited down, but could be wrong.

Wow, it would take a lot of force to bend the wings vertical like that. I know they couldn’t get the spar to break in tests at Mooney. If I recall what I was told, the cage came disconnected from the spar rather than the spar snapping.

Just seeing this come through - does anyone know any more? They haven’t released the tail number yet in this story: https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/plane-crashes-near-downtown-victoria-in-the-west-metro

For better or for worse, when you start comparing stuff like this to a tank of fuel or a cylinder replacement the credit card just sort of comes out of your pocket.

Thanks Warren!

Just a shot in the dark but thought I'd give it a try here. Does anyone in the Dallas or Houston area (or somewhere roughly in between) happen to have an O2 setup in their hangar and could top me off this weekend? I need to leave for a trip very early Monday morning and both shops I tried this week couldn't fit me in. Of course I'd pay for the O2 and may even make a new friend! Thanks, David.

On a side note, it's great when you get a controller that goes above and beyond. I remember once talking to a guy at Washington approach who was extremely busy but pretty much acted like my co-pilot trying to navigate a line a weather I was trying to go through at FL220 (it was daytime, wouldn't try this at night). He found me a hole and then would check on me every few minutes as I was flying through just to make sure I was alright (something like "Still going well 46 bravo lima?"). This was at the same time he was handling many other airliners going in and out of DC.

I'm not sure if it makes sense or will fix your issue, but 736 red RTV is your friend for closing off any holes that the baffling can't quite get to. I'm sure Guy will skewer me for saying this :).

And if he refused that you would have said "I have a particular set of skills, skill's I've acquired over a very long flying career...."

Need Mooney Parts Ordered - Calling Mooney Corp
Davidv replied to irishpilot's topic in General Mooney Talk
I know the factory is doing their best to make parts and fulfill orders, but if anyone is in desperate need of something, Don or Paul Maxwell are your next best bet. Even if you don't take your plane there, their people true mechanics rather than "parts replacement specialists". For instance, the voltage regulator on the Bravo is riveted shut and costs $2300 for a new one. Don will have yours repaired for a fraction of that cost. -
When you’re cruising along at 210 knots true at 23k with a cloud deck far below, your 6.2 gph will be *nearly* forgotten!
-
Yes, as a new Bravo owner the link below will be helpful for future flight planning! https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/energy/refined-products/rbob-gasoline.html
-
Not at 21K but at 24K you could do it burning 22-23 gph. Remember that a lot of those test flights for ad purposes were done with a very light load and using the lycoming limits such as "peak tit" which likely would have been right at the redline at 34 inches. Great for a speed run but not great if you want your exhaust and cylinders to last. This is one reason why so many acclaims need tops at 300-600 hrs.

The ball is in fact in Garmin’s court. Believe it or not but they need to make their business case work on writing the software required for the change (I say believe it or not because I would have thought the workload wouldn’t be huge for a team of developers they already have on staff) So far, they haven’t been willing to commit to anything. Hopefully that will change in the future.

Two TFR Interceptions Over My Home Today
Davidv replied to Kmac's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
Wow, is that a Cirrus? They don't show flares on the NXi so it's understandable. -
Take a look at @StevenL757's Ovation he just listed. I don't think you would find one better.
-
@StevenL757 Someone is going to get a great airplane! If anyone is even remotely looking for a Mooney in this price range, I'd run, not walk, to give Steven your money (and convince him to sell it to you) with this level of equipment and maintenance by Brian Kendrick. Any other planes in your immediate future?

Acceptable compressions on Continental TSIO 360 MB
Davidv replied to MooneyNoob's topic in General Mooney Talk
Brian Kendrick, but just to clarify I saw him not do compressions on one prebuy but he did on a recent one using a better method. His schedule is very full and he travels but if there is one screw out of place on a Mooney he will find it. Mooneysupport.com. -
Acceptable compressions on Continental TSIO 360 MB
Davidv replied to MooneyNoob's topic in General Mooney Talk
There is one extremely meticulous Mooney mechanic I know who doesn’t even do compressions on all pre-buys but opts for comprehensive boroscopes instead. -
It’s a neat feature but on my panel I could do the same with the following button pushes: turn knob to nearest screen (choose suitable one), direct to, select IAS and NAV functions on AP. If Garmin isn’t trying to make additional money off the feature I’d think it wouldn’t be that tough to update the software to do this.
-
It sounded like he was about to say that he was thinking about the type of corn he wanted to fly the plane into
-
I don’t have anything against him personally, but I wasn’t happy with one of his videos where he basically disparaged 2-3 other well known YouTubers (one of which he had previously produced content with) by saying they helped stage a crash. That’s where my tin hat comment was from.
-
I wonder if his tin hat got damaged in the crash or if he will still wear it for the inevitable video.
