How NOT to Solicit Charitable Contributions - Debunked!
Jeph357 replied to Jeff_S's topic in General Mooney Talk
Hmmm.... How are we all supposed all donate immediately !?!?!?!! The address is blacked out. Sounds pretty serious..... Hahaha. Maybe theres a lesson in here. Maybe not. My reply would be very short but to the point. -
Well not a Mooney flight but a great flight nonetheless. Flew in a Grob G109. Motor Glider or powered glider. So the flight was "officially hands off controls...." for me, unofficially/officially it was pretty awesome. Demonstrated some maneuvers flew over the practice areas and got quite the look at the greater Tokyo area. Was pretty clear could see the base of Mt Fuji, Skytree and Tokyo out in the distance. Flying is a different experience in Japan. So I went for a flight previously at a different airfield down the street from this one it was kind of a bigger business that wasn't all I'd hoped it would be but fun also. I spent some time chatting with the chief instructor then came time to fly. The instructor/PIC and I had a quick brief then off we went. Off the ground in about 400ft and climb out at 60knts 600FPM. Got up to altitude and got to turn off the engine and just soar for a bit work on airspeed/ maneuvers. Pretty cool and calm day almost no wind and no thermals. Started the engine did a semi low pass/ go around then climbed back up a few more maneuvers, then a power off landing come in high slight slip throw out some spoilers/ air brakes. After hanging out for a bit longer and swapping stories I was invited back tomorrow to go check out the shop and "factory" 2 separate places. Should be a good time. Both instructors said they had Mooney time and conversation flowed. I got to admit it was pretty cool with the engine off, but I told the PIC " this is about the only engine out situation Id like to be in." Didn't do very well in the picture/video taking but got a few. If I get the video(s) to upload will update post.

M20E Main tire tube size and stem
Jeph357 replied to takair's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I had a similar experience was lucky I didn't ruin my rim or anything. Used every bit of the runway width wise. I had to use straight valve to get back in the air but ordered 70° and have been happy ever since. Pics are of how close I came to going off edge of runway and my valve stem I found doing a FOD check riding back with the airport ops guy. I did check my tire pressure before the 3 hour flight. If I remember correctly the tires/tube were installed a little over 2 years prior to me buying the plane. I make sure to use alot of talc powder. Wont hurt anything. -
I went with a New LED (from Gallager aviation $600 I believe) and did some aluminum "arts and crafts". I doubled up the Aluminum (riveted) where the light mounts and made a ring for the inside that I put nut plates on so the skin sandwiches between the ring and exterior mounting plate using existing holes. So no need for a backup wrench to remove if needed (unless removing mount from plate) Short video of brightness

Push button seat belt release for Johnson Bar Mooneys
Jeph357 replied to Gary0747's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I installed the alpha aviation belts and added these. https://alphaaviation.com/lap-belt-sheath/ seem to keep everything clear -
He bought that a few months back? I talked with the previous owner/builder right after he flew it down from park city to sell. He built it in the hangar behind mine (11 years). If it is the same one.. Guessing it is

How many Mooneys are based at your home field?
Jeph357 replied to RLCarter's topic in General Mooney Talk
4-C (one is a converted D), 1-E, 2-F, 2-J, 1-K So 10 if memory is working -
Old retired Mooney , dodges the reapers saw.....
Jeph357 replied to Alan Fox's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
A little ingenuity, a cantilever pylon, heatshield along the underside and gear extensions. G2G.... -
Accepted! Got in touch with Makoto and got direction to a private airport. Ryugasaki. Went for a short 20 minute flight or ride rather in the backseat of a 172. The rules are pretty strict for foreign nationals and general aviation it seems (or at least my understanding from the language barrier/loss in translation). In any case spoke with a couple of CFIs that were there with an owner of a 172 that had flown from another airport. After my conversation with them it made me realize how fortunate we are to have the ability to fly like we do, not only in our beloved Mooneys but each and every flying machine we are able to own and fly across our great country! Made me think of how often we get frustrated with regulations and whatnot, but oh how much more difficult it could be. I am thankful to live where Im not priced out of owning and flying as I do. The cost of an aircraft here is roughly 4 times as much to purchase. (more than 1 aircraft just parked and backseats full of things.)A liter of 100LL is 350-400yen ($3-$4 roughly) 3.78 liters to a gallon $11.34 gallon. 10 landings at the field your aircraft is based out of per month, after that 4000 yen ($40) landing fee, per landing/touch'n'go. Not your home airport 4000 yen (average) landing fee wether you buy fuel or not. So to have the infrastructure and ability to travel by our preferred methods without the expenses alone not even getting into the bureaucracy and regulations is something I know I have taken for granted (honestly hadn't had the chance for any comparison before) and I will still take advantage of but will not take for granted. Not sure this is really the correct thread but its realizations and eye opening ramblings from the mission accepted. (I feel like I could've been posted in "Todays flight in the year 2020" thread or another or 2) All in all I enjoyed myself conversing and interacting with the aviation family in another country and it felt good to be off the ground but I cannot wait to be in my plane again and airborne. A few more weeks.........

Work. Just waiting now.

Wow, wanted to step over the fence and get a look at the Data plate. Good info.

Kinda sad to see this just as a display and not flying. Made it to the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences in Japan today. As we were pulling up low and behold I see one of the unmistakable profiles of an emmpanage! Didn't think Id see a Mooney in Japan, unfortunately its just outside exposed to the elements and wasting away along with some other aircraft. Also made it another museum, no Mooney, but some historical and interesting planes none the less (even if full scale replicas). Have been trying to actually get some flight time, but pretty strict and requires a lot more planning here to actually fly PIC than I have time to devote to it. So have to settle for the museums and watching from work.

0- for me, hopefully soon. Haven't been flying much at all the last couple of months unless you count vicariously thru everyone ON here and watching the ones around here. Cant wait to get back home to the Mooney.......

Just to stir it up my plane has a 337 for dual piston brakes that are from a.... you guessed it a Comanche. ( Or as I call my buddy's plane, the cosnatchy) I have more braking than I ever use.

Awesome video!

$400 more on top of the $1450 for each emag https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/tcwbackup11-12650-3.php I understand the redundancy of only replacing 1 and I usually am of the "if its not broke dont fix it", team but it would be a nice touch at an overhaul to have mags that stay on until the next overhaul. Should start seeing how they are really going to preform here in the near future as people actually build the time on them. Here's another idea for a back up power source..... lol

I also posed the question. 48 hrs for reply allegedly...

So now that Lycoming has their name on them does that open the door for 2 soild state emags? P/N for left and right are the same for the A1A. Curious https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/lycoming_eis.php?utm_campaign=STRATUS CHARGING PORT - USA&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter

Whats the difference between a clit and bud light? The clit only tastes like piss for a second.
