  1. Let us know what you end up deciding. If it’s the buy route, we have tons of folks here who can help further!
  2. Do post pictures when you have your new bird!
  3. Glad to see this plane finally getting sold. Should be a fun rocket (pun intended)!
  4. Hahahaha, for sure no rivets.
  5. Sweet. Just picked up 3 shirts. Can't wait to get them. Though I wish the M20K had wings like the 201 model. Wondering if there's option to customize it with a tail #
  6. Welcome aboard! Check with instructors on this page from nearby states and see if they are willing to help ferry: https://themooneyflyer.com/cfi.html . Good luck! Edit: I read carefully later, will save the Congrats when you purchase it. For now, we will stick with the good luck
  7. Yep, the marks clearly indicate that. Good find.
  8. Indeed - unless it's going through one of the buy & resale shops. Then it truly comes down to evaluating what you are getting and now who is selling it.
  9. In reference to Parker's message from eons ago - even if you are unable to do an annual as part of the sale, a thorough pre-buy is crucial at a reputable shop, preferably a MSC. Once done, you look at the discrepancies and negotiate the price down. Which, of course, goes directly back into getting the a/c airworthy and spruced up. Most shops will let you convert the pre-buy into annual anyways. Not sure why anyone would make such a costly investment w/o digging deeper and ensuring its flight worthy. Sad about the gear collapse. N1152L is a beautiful bird, but suffered at the neglect of its owners :-(
  10. As a recent purchaser, I went through the same debate. Partnership? Own? Keep renting the M20J? At the end of the day, it probably makes sense to go with a partnership to reduce costs, but at the same time now you have to worry about personalities, what happens if they want to leave, politics, etc., and needless to say: every decision has to be vetted with the group. You can't for example, decide to go with GI 275 b/c maybe the other partners want Garmin G5 instead. With your own plane, yes the financial risks if something goes terribly wrong certainly exists. But, you can mitigate it by careful planning and saving up. You can take your family for a vacation and choose to extend by a week if you want to - without paying minimum charges per day nor having to coordinate. You want to upgrade to a longer body Mooney- completely your call. You know what the state of the aircraft is every time you get in it. Things stay the way you left it. You can plan ahead for fuel if you expect gross weight t/o the next day. And finally. it's YOUR OWN PLANE!
  11. No worries. I would like to have a reference pic when I do mine
  12. Curious if you have a picture of this setup?
  13. It took one flight in my brother's M20J to convince me after having learned how to fly in a C150. And now I have a 252 Love it and proud to be part of this cult!
  14. FYI - I have gotten better response with shops if I just pick up the phone for the first call.
  15. Sad about the outcome. But thanks for getting everyone to double check their insurance policies!
  16. Requires a good pre-flight given its a rental Mooney, but I have always had a blast flying it. Galvin's maintenance folks jump on it promptly for squawks and its back out flying soon after. In my opinion, you treat her like its your own bird, and it will return the favor 10,000 times over. Lean it on ground and above 3k, watch the engine temps, avoid shock cooling, etc. etc. I built up my Mooney time in that plane so it has a special place in my heart
  17. Interesting, didn't know about the effects of UV on them. Last I checked them, they looked fine and in my opinion passed the "pull" test. But they are getting up there in age and probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace them when I redo the interior in a few years. Thanks!
  18. Glad things turned out okay. Speaking of seat belts and shoulder harnesses - when are you supposed to replace or service them?
  19. Welcome aboard @Sounder! I am waiting for my M20K 252 to come up from Az but I have been renting the M20J @ Galvin (KBFI) for the past few years. Bit on the pricey side but if you want time in a Mooney now - it's one way to do it. Would love to meet up, perhaps we can all join in for a socially-distant fly-in There's also @Henry Hochberg who has a Bravo at KPAE.
  20. PS this is on a '89 J but the setup would be similar for the K models.
  21. I had the same setup, left thigh for iPad, right for knee-board. I ended up ordering several individual RAM socket arms and bases from mypilotstore and found a working solution with a couple of pieces. I have my attached to the pilot side window in front of the pilot vent window and easy to read from the pilot seat. With the RAM setup, you can pivot it around each joint so It doesn't block the pilot vent window nor the yoke at full motion. Works really well. I will try to get a pic of it next week - work on-call for the week :-( Maybe someone else has the same set up and can post a photo.
  22. Ah hey - and they are local too. Thanks @PT20J. Once I get my bird up here - we should be meet up at Spruce Goose sometime!
  23. BTW are there other vendors to look at other than Aircraft Spruce for oil/parts/accessories/etc?
  24. I feel like we should create a new thread and make it a sticky for this sub-forum and link the other threads from there. Then we will have one place to point people to for it.
