  1. When I was renting Pipers, I came across this nifty utility: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/atcontrollocks.php?gclid=CjwKCAjwwYP2BRBGEiwAkoBpAvbW3T9pYnPVzasqhlKz-z0sf71mgrHxTggQb9PXhYEvx9G45_WBiRoCKS0QAvD_BwE It surely can be used for the ailerons, but to control the elevators would need to devise a clip/button that Pipers have on the side of the throttle quadrant. Would be amazing if someone can adapt this for mooneys :-)
  2. Yeah I was worried about the Rocket specific parts. It's good to know Rocket is still supporting the existing conversions. Cheers
  3. @FloridaMan@Austintatious Was researching rockets (yea I know, you guys planted the seed), and ran into this post: Is parts availability an issue for Rockets?
  4. Thanks @FloridaMan. Helpful insights! I think I leaning more towards the 252 / 231 to get more useful load and less gas consumption. Getting out of Seattle to any place fun requires a trek and hopping over stones. Likely will add TKS down the road as well so could use any weight saving measures possible.
  5. True, I meant to say shorter body. I had the long body Bravos in mind.
  6. I learned a lot through this process, and I will chalk it up to a very positive experience. All parties involved were helpful and it’s a bummer it didn’t work out. Being forced to learn, I did pickup quite a bit of knowledge on the TSIO-360-GB/LB/MB engines. Though I am biased more towards a 252 now, I am still very open towards a good 231. Also curious, how the Rocket feels in the same short body. How much heavier is it compared to the 231/252s?
  7. Unfortunately, this deal didn’t work out. I will keep looking.
  8. Sure is a beauty! Yep, makes sense. Still focusing on aircraft first and making progress there before arranging for ferry back and transition training. Took time off from work today to orchestrate a lot of pre-buy activities!
  9. Not worrying about if the last guy accidentally filled up too much fuel, or didn’t burn enough after topping the tanks, and your fourth passenger is out of luck bc of wb
  10. +1 - not having to worry about if someone else has the plane or the school is now closed b/c its 5 PM is beautiful gift. Skies clear, got all work done, lets go flying!
  11. @carusoam Yep - sent him an initial checklist organized by flight leg. Will report back how it turns out. Cheers @MIm20c Good investigative work Plans are to fly it around for a year or two, spend money on the engine and then on avionics. If the MX20 breaks, I would like to switch to a Garmin 750 coupled with a remote audio controller. Of course, this all depends on if I end up getting the plane.
  12. Given Jim's experience, I am going to be very hard pressed to match his pilot skills - probably for decades! Thanks for the tips!
  13. Called Jim Price (of MooneyFlyer fame) and he is willing to do this. Is there any specific set of items to check for in flight? So far I have: Make sure it tracks correctly on the different axis Instruments are functional Nav/COM operations AP operations JPI reporting Taking tons of pictures. Thanks!
  14. Hi there folks, @carusoam haven't forgotten https://themooneyflyer.com/cfi.html, but given the urgency, wanted to check here first if someone w/ turbo experience near Phoenix, AZ is willing to go up and flight test a M20K 231. Timeframe is tomorrow or at the latest Wednesday before it goes in the shop. I will PM details/specifics, and of course, will pay for your time. Thanks, Shawn
  15. Yikes sorry its getting late here too and I didn't realize the post was a continuation - looks like my brain is saying its time to hit the sack. (I ended up deleting the post )
  16. One reference, I just learned about this page myself: https://themooneyflyer.com/cfi.html. Good luck.
  17. +1 on caursoam's response. If you aren't yet, join AOPA, and the friendly folks can answer some of your questions.
  18. Hmm ... wondering if it could have been due to improper torquing? Thanks @M20Doc for sharing the pic.
  19. Hello folks, Wondering if "broken case short stud" is a common problem in 231s or is this indicative of vibrations due to motor mount issues or imbalanced prop? Scanning through logbooks for a pre-buy exam and this caught my eye. It seems to be relatively inexpensive part (643651-1) based on: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/continentalnewstuds_07-05748.php?clickkey=1522790 The aircraft has had a few of them replaced. I don't have the service manual so can't really place where they go. If anyone has the manuals I can look please let me know. Shawn
  20. Is it possible to have an encore-conversion for the M20K-231s? Imagine this will qualify for a STC and probably meets the demand criteria given how many active 231s are out there.
  21. Good tip! Didn't know there was a CFI list on the site. That link is hidden under More Content
  22. Thanks Mike. Will keep him in mind once this thing settles.
  23. That's already happening in parallel - going through Savvy and the whole pre-buy process. I am trying to line up things to be prepared. Given the COVID situation, not many instructors may be willing to fly in the right seat to ferry it back. Cheers.
  24. I am looking at purchasing a M20K 231 and was wondering if folks have recommendations for Mooney specific CFI in the Washington state. I have about 55 hours in complex a/c, of which 40 are in a M20J. I am looking for help with ferrying the plane over and some turbo instruction as well. COVID-19 definitely makes it harder, and of course, all of this pending the sale going through in the first place. Thanks!
  25. Seems like using an escrow service to exchange money in return for documents like Antares mentioned would be the way to go. Similar to the process of buying a house. Surprised that this isn’t common practice.
