Anyone know what this drain hole is near?
shawnd replied to shawnd's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Thanks, now I am more interested in taking it down and looking. Shouldn't be dirty.... as it was squeaky clean about 19 hours ago (~2 weeks) ago. -
@PJClark any power supply requirements or was this a straight-in replacement? Got a link?

Hmm.. black in color? Would have expected bluish tint. -
While attempting to rush out of the plane to refuel it at a busy pump, my shoe kicked the passenger side yoke and the emblem in the center went flying. I managed to secure the plastic case, but the metal emblem piece can't be found. Any idea where I can buy a pair of these yoke emblems ([Mooney Logo] "Special Edition"?

Okay I didn't get a chance to take it down yet, but getting some milk crates per @Bolter's suggestion to aid the process and will attempt to take it down this weekend or early next week - before I go flying. The consistency doesn't match the engine oil - its lighter, less viscous and definitely dark/black in color. Doesn't smell like engine oil either. A neighbor took a look and believes its grease + lubrication oozing out. I did take a look at the open belly when it was at the MSC and they definitely didn't flood it with lubrication. Neighbor also stated that it's not hydraulic fluid given its not at all red. Will keep this thread updated. -
Thanks for the tip! Looks like they have a few other things I wouldn't mind picking up. https://www.glapinc.com/Mooney/m20K.htm

Yeah I don't believe this is engine oil btw. I see engine oil near the nose gear doors and by the blowoff drain - clear-ish in color. Just had work done to the parking brake valve/system (like you said would be red-ish), fuel selector (that would be blue unless its mixing with something else) in that area. I guess pulling the panel is the prompt thing to do. Although carusoam's hint about CorrosionX might be valid. -

I cleaned it last week after I brought it over from KCHD especially to keep an eye out for new leaks etc. Havent flown through rain or clouds since and the plane is in a hangar. Shouldn't be engine oil, but agree, hydraulic should be red in color. Hah! I did get a full foaming/coating of CorrosionX as a preventative measure. Though its more yellow-ish and thick goo based on what I saw along the ailerons (pointed to by the guy who applied it). If you look closely, there is a smoking "screw" to the left of it. I am trying to avoid pulling the belly just yet as its a PITA with the antenna wires etc. But will do before next flight for sure. Hoping its not the landing gear - which should be electric anyways.. -
Holes are definitely a reality by turning on recog lights on ground while not in moving (cold) air. I bought mine that way Speaking of which - where can I pick up replacement ones?

Hola. Got some fluid coming out of a drain hole on the left side of the fuselage near the left wing. It's black in color. Before getting A&P to remove the belly - curious what this might be from? Any ideas?

Baggage compartment lock cylinder

I recommend these guys too. Cant go wrong with Medeco locks. -
Congrats @mooneygirl! Also, thanks for the pointer to the flying mag article. Good read indeed.

Thanks @MIm20c - I am assuming the "Cessna" 3-pin connectors fit our Mooneys?

I do have the trainer app, but lately I have found myself turning master on and off + avionics to diagnose a GTN 750 issue. Certain database updates, though being accepted and stored in memory, didn't persist across power cycles. After troubleshooting, Garmin suggested formatting the internal SD card and sure enough we can't. A replacement one is on its way. Hence doesn't hurt to have one of these around. And the spinning and whizzing noises of the gyro still puts a smile on my face for now - so I am going to enjoy it while it lasts

Yep got the Hoskins FT-101 FF gauge. I thought the 830 was the same as the 730 with just more probes included by default?
-
@carusoam Will keep in mind to take pics of JPI next time I need to download the data off it too. It's a barebones 730 so it only has EGT + CHT. Planning on adding more probes in the near future. Switching to Concorde battery is also top on the list. I am planning on plenty of flights in between avionics only usage so it should keep the battery charged. @elimansour thanks for the tip! And yes - it definitely feels different than just another cross country. Good thing I got the aircraft treated with corrosion X as within a couple of days of being back here, it poured.

2XM is finally home! It was a fun packed "vacation" that included few hours of familiarization flight in the Phoenix area, finding squawks that had to be addressed, and then finally making the trip up on July 2nd. Can't thank Frank at Chandler Aviation enough for working with me and getting this plane back in shape. Took roughly five weeks from start to finish and we covered a lot of issues! Also thanks to the instructors that were part of this journey and helping a newbie getting started on the right leg. The return trip was planned from KCHD -> KHND -> KLMT -> KPAE. First time up above 10,000 ft and with O2. We were sailing smoothly at 16,500 ft and heard pireps from pilots below for turbulence :-) The turbos kept a steady 800-1000 ft / min climb despite the hot temperatures of the desert environments. Of course, there are squawks but they will be addressed over time. But does anyone know where I can get my hands on the Mooney switch covers, esp. the RECOG LIGHT one. The switch itself is in working condition. Also, Bruce's Covers fit the plane like a glove. I was worried about the antennas but they seem to able to take the information from the antenna worksheet and photos and come out with a perfectly fitting cover! One last thing - any recommendations for a 28V ground power unit for the 252? Need it mostly for playing around with avionics or updating them but wouldn't mind trickle charging if possible. I am looking at a hangar. Enjoy the pictures:

Looking for CB Guide to Database Updates
shawnd replied to the_elkhartian's topic in General Mooney Talk
Garmin confirmed that they are listing the incorrect FSS frequency for KLMT and working to getting the issue resolved. I could have checked myself, but still don't have access to my a/c. Will do though in 3 days! -
I just received my 4 sets of o2 kits from Precise today. I need 2 for the ferry flight so hoping at least 2 of the 4 work out. Thanks folks for all the help!

When I do my interior in a couple of years - this is the model I am going to follow. It's just .. sexy! -

Heh - seems like a pattern. Everyone starts off with a different plane in mind but ends up in a 252 -
Might work better if you move this thread to the aircraft classifieds section https://mooneyspace.com/forum/10-aircraft-classifieds/ Also, browse around / keep an eye on that section to see if anyone else is doing the same. Specifying what plane you have in mind will also help in finding like minded partners Good luck!

When able, can someone post pictures of the changes needed to the battery cover to fit the RG24-15 in the M20K 252? Guessing this will be handy to have to show the A&P.
