During my approach today, I noticed that the gear down annunciator dis not come on. I checked the floor primary indicator and it showed down so I suspected a bulb issue. I pushed the push to test on the annunciator panel and all lights, except the gear down light came on, including the gear unsafe so I figured it was the bulb and landed uneventfully. Does anyone know if it is an easy fix to replace the bulb?

Hi Alan. Thank you! Re: the clock...maybe? My panel lighting was off in the picture but am not sure if it lights up when I turn panel lights on (not too many night flights lately). Now I’m curious and I’ll have to go to the airport to try it... In your panel, did you replace the clock or was there a bulb to change?

It was a beautiful day today and I had my first x-country since getting the plane back from the shop. Flew KMYF to KHMT and had lunch at Bambi’s Hangar One Restaurant (well worth a stop - they make the best fresh pies!!). Afterward, I filed an IFR flight plan to KOKB to try the hold with the GPSS functionality added by the Aspen EA100 - was pretty cool. The autopilot did a beautiful teardrop hold entry and entered the hold without any input - makes it effortless and too easy. Flew back to KMYF happy for such a great flight. The sky was busy, the restaurant was full and there was skydiving activity at KOKB. It almost felt like the good old days...

What a fantastic video and a great demo of the Dynon system. Really looks to be a very capable system and easy to use.

I like the all-in one 2 person kit that Sporty's sells. https://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/6-cubic-feet-aluminum-cylinder-2-place-cannula-oxygen-system-2-nasal-cannulas-1-mask.html . They will sell it dry or filled. They also have a 4 person kit if you anticipate needing that many outputs. You just need to select size / capacity of the tank based on your usual trip at altitude and how many ports you think you will need. SkyOX has a nice instruction on size/ duration at http://www.skyox.com/files/1965694/uploaded/OxygenCannulaInstructions1.pdf (keep in mind those figures are in man hours...divide by the number of active ports).

You can’t go wrong with an M20J - but make sure to get the right one. It may be better to pay a little more and get one with no damage history, a recent low time engine, ads-b in/out, panel upgraded avionics, good or newpaint/interior, etc. For planes that do not check all those boxes, reduce the price accordingly. I know the resale inventory is low right now but there should be some on the horizon. You might also want to let Jimmy Garrison (All American/GMAX) know of your interest and he may find you an off market one that will fit the bill. Good Luck and hope you find the right one soon!!

This is horrific and very sad. Everyone stay safe out there. These accidents are always sobering reminders of the risks involved in what we do.

It’s really a cover for a hole in the panel. The placard says GNS 530 & GNS 430 GPS systems approved for IFR use enroute, terminal use, and for Non-Precision Approaches I was confused when I first saw it and checked the logs for any limitations until I realized that GPS approaches are non-precision approaches!

WAAS no longer available on 530 and 430
elimansour replied to Danb's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I just finished my panel upgrade (Aspen, EA100, GI 275) and opted (both for fiscal and practical reasons) to keep my 530W and upgrade my 430 to 430W. In a couple of years, when my wallet recovers, I’ll probably opt for the IFD 540/440 since they will plug right into the same brackets. -

I stand corrected! Thanks for pointing that out. -

don't forget there will also be installation cost as the GTN uses different rack / harness. -
I finally got my plane back after the avionics upgrade. This is my panel prior to the upgrade: Here is the scary midpoint of the upgrade...It was quite unnerving seeing the panel in pieces and I was wondering if they could put it back together: Luckily for me, they knew what they were doing and here is the panel today when I picked it up: The upgrade was precipitated by a failed KI256 during an IFR flight late last year. After much research and a pause due to the release of the GI 275 earlier this year (I briefly contemplated 2 GI 275s instead of the Aspen but opted to go with the Aspen unit and a GI 275 as backup as I felt the presentation and features on the Aspen were more complete and fit my flying better - and since the G5 was not TSO'd as a backup and would need a field approval which I did not want to risk during these uncertain times). The KI 256, KI525, RC Allen backup AI, magnetometer, KCS55A remote gyro, vacuum pump and electric backup vacuum pump and related wiring came out. This was replaced with the Aspen Pro Max with an EA100 for interfacing directly to the KFC150 and a GI 275 backup ADI . I also upgraded the 430 to WAAS to better talk to the GNS530W. This install saved 27 lbs!!
