  1. I saw that, he is emailing me the paperwork details. It’s been suggested, that since other long bodies have them installed it will be a simpler process. I’ll post the results when the time comes.
  2. They aren’t on all the 2007’s. I’ve had two that didn’t have the new style caps
  3. I don’t recall having a problem on the ultra, but obviously didn’t have the Monroe tanks. they are a dramatic improvement to the old caps that felt like lead. Where can the caps and items needed for install be acquired? Is this an stc, or just a field approval?
  4. I owned one so I can attest to their existence!
  5. Does anyone know where these can be sourced and if they can be installed? I’m going to have an older ovation, I’m in the process of acquiring, painted in the near future and was going to reseal tanks prior. I’d love to incorporate the new caps. If you have not had the pleasure of using them, you should give them a look. They are so much nicer that those two pound bricks we have, and never misalign the way the old ones had a tendancy to do.
  6. Awesome photos. I always liked that paint scheme. also think that’s the best view of Mooney belly that I’ve ever seen.
  7. I believe experience level to start flying any plane is irrelevant much less a Mooney. The air force puts people directly into planes way more complex. I would say it is all about training and humility. I bought my first plane, an ovation as I was finishing my ppl, and I looked at a LOT of planes before I bought. I was first drawn to the Mooney was because of my mission. But my rationale was that I was going to pay someone to fly with me a great amount of hours in the next year as I gained experience, trained for ifr, and became proficient enough to fly my family. So if I was going to do that, why wouldn’t I do it in the plane I plan to fly long term? I hired a CFI who was looking for a job flying freight to fly with me my first 50 hours in the Mooney. I realized I would gain all of those critical experiences in “my plane”, and all of my procedures and habits would be shaped around that platform. To me this seemed much smarter than flying some different plane for two years and then learning a new one. I now have six years of experience, 800+ hours, 650 of that in long body mooney’s, the rest in a variety of planes. Basically, anything anyone will let me fly in. I feel very comfortable, believe I am safer and more proficient than I would be with half the hours i now have in a Mooney. It’s the same thing with steam gauges or glass. I’m sure a guy with 30 years behind steam gauges is a LOT more comfortable and proficient with them than a glass cockpit. I did all my 172 time as a student with those old broken down everything inop flight school planes. All steam gauges and no gps, but after I flew with a g1000 I didn’t want to go back. Everyone has to decide which route is best for them, and I’m not suggesting my path is better than any other, just explaining my logic...
  8. I forgot once a few years ago. I went and found a planter in the airport and stuffed the knife in it. Figured I forfeit to TSA or take the chance. It was there when I got back!
  9. The only time i consider commercial is when plane is down, or time doesn't permit me to make weather calls. Otherwise, i am going in my own plane. It is never a cost factor, that would be like saying you own a boat to save money on fish... Plus, thats why i own a plane!
  10. I would trust Switlik to do the prebuy. He has done several annuals for me, on my mooney’s and is a solid guy.
  11. My only interest in the 210 was for flight plan transfer. my last plane had the 510 and it’s incredibly useful. I miss the nxi and the flight stream a lot more than I thought I would.
  12. I was told the flight stream 210 will not work with the g1000 so that’s not an option. per my conversation with Garmin and don maxwell.
  13. I doubt anyone who would try those maneuvers, would be foolish enough to post it publicly on a forum. I would think the test pilots would try them if for no other reason just boredom, but I’m not sure what’s legal for test pilot to do or not do... I do know that any aircraft is capable of these maneuvers if executed properly, that’s just basic physics.
  14. but its only 99.9% effective. Who would take that risk!? /sarcasm off
  15. That looks spectacular. Love the color combos
  16. I found on four of my five io550’s and tsio550’s, if my number 5 got to 380, all I had to do was reduce climb until temps reduced and were trending down below 370, then resume climb and they wouldn’t exceed 380 again. I guess purging the heat from taxi and initial climb with reduced airflow was enough to control the temps, but that’s just a guess.
  17. I guess it would have a lot to do with how much someone sweats, or how much someone’s sweat smells.. I don’t sweat much and my sweat doesn’t really have an odor but in leather, even a little sweat just stays wet. With sheepskin it evaporates as you sweat so when you get out you’re dry. Also, they are very easy to remove and replace. So every six months or so, I take them out, bring them home, and put them in the washer and dryer. ps, if you are sweating, you are sweating in the seat cover OR the seat.... you can’t wash the seat cushion...
  18. I never thought the sheepskin was attractive, and it just seemed like it would be hot and get soggy with sweat. I didn’t actually realize I liked them until I flew with them for a few months, then took them off. I missed them so much I put them back in and ordered some for my truck. they really do make the cold warmer and the hot cooler. I will have them in anything I fly now. they make any seat, more comfortable to me. to each their own.
  19. Sounds and looks like it’s a frankinmooney. ive see the photos, and caught snippets of its story, was it a haphazard attempt to compete for a military contract or was this a earnest r&d result? what’s its story?
  20. Has anyone installed this in a Mooney or any plane with a g1000? or a garmin keyboard? we get rerouted several times nearly ever flight on my mission. Doesn’t matter if I take suggested routes, or stick to airways. I’ve flown with flight stream on an nxi and it’s awesome to be able to type into the phone and transfer. Especially with airways and arrival procedures. I can’t really find any difinitive answer online.
  21. Lol, no I mean every single one! not really possible but I can try, just like eating an elephant...
  22. I told Richard my bucket list is to fly the entire fleet of long bodies. I’d own them all too if I could!
  23. I did really like the orange in the pictures, but the previous owner had some paint work done on the cowling and it didn’t match very well, plus the logo on the tail wasn’t vinyl. Lastly, while orange is my favorite color, the color looked better in pictures. In real life it was more neon orange, which I didn’t care for. Okeechobee painting did the work. I am happy with what I got for what I paid, and while I would not hesitate to say it was a good value, the work is not top tier. I would say it’s average to slightly above. However, they did everything on my punch list immediately, provided me with some touch up paint, and finished on time. The other quotes were substantially higher, and more importantly, 7-12 months out so I am extremely satisfied.
  24. The orange is no mo
  25. Going east is always fun!!
