  1. Only major gripe of the 650 is the placement of the transponder shortcut. Constantly clipping it in turbulence. Planning on removing it if I can. I’d still rather have a 650 and 10 inch txi vs the 750 and the 7 inch txi.
  2. Doing a waas navigator at the same time? If so a used 330es would also be a possibility.
  3. One thing that got me thinking with the used car reference is the added risk lenders take on with this type of loan. The older aircraft (stated to be the harder ones to prove value on) can easily cost as much to operate as newer models. This makes it extremely easy to get upside down with the loan. If someone is stretching to afford the payments on a cheaper aircraft are they more likely to default if the engine starts making metal? Or if the first annual finds a ton of issues?
  4. I talked with Rapco at OSH last year about this. Consensus was new or overhauled would provide the exact same service life. I went with an overhauled one and it has worked well over the past year. Previous pump was also overhauled and went just under 900 hrs. Mine is only used as a backup or it would have been changed at the 500 hr mark.
  5. Trek (Garmin) said this will hopefully change late this year / early next year.
  6. I think @donkaye was going to going to do some training in a Mooney with one (770) installed. IIRC it started to grow on him slightly with the Aspen like interface.
  7. The $3-4K difference goes a long way towards an Aspen or txi...;)
  8. Going with the thin blade? Too pretty of a plane to sit out on the ramp...
  9. I’ve seen planes initially insured for 30% higher than purchase price with no changes made. I doubt it would be a problem.
  10. Purchased one from Jimmy, the process couldn’t be easier. Thanks for doing this!
  11. 250 until tomorrow.
  12. I find the FF interface on the iPhone 7 Plus to work great for flight planning but not as well while flying. This has nothing to do with the size of the display.
  13. I think aircraft speed mods have a very low ROI. This would agree with the spreads above.
  14. My reference to eBay was for avionics not aircraft, although a reasonable BIN (not auction) will provide a lot of additional exposure to a traditional TAP et al listing. I do agree with Fred’s insurance agent that the value added to hull value and IMO to aircraft selling price is based on hardware...the labor is a sunk cost.
  15. Might want to get a fresh bottle of brake fluid, the small bottle had just enough to bleed my system. Glance around at the hoses throughout the aircraft, might want to change a few if they’re getting really old.
  16. I think Garmin has sold well over 100k gns units. I would hope the bean counters over in Kansas will come up with a better end of life option than the 480 situation. A slide in option (even if it has to be sourced from a dealer) should be manditory.
  17. Nice work! Any pictures or info on your cnc setup?
  18. I’m always thinking about panel layouts. Recently thinking about moving a larger GPS to a front and center location. Similar to the picture below but using a Garmin 750 instead. It gives up space for round gauges but brings important info into the scan area. Thoughts? Easier to reach to the right vs in front?
  19. I agree with everything you said. I find vref completely useless especially when looking at avionics. Unfortunately the normal SOP is to study the market for ~ six months, calculate ones budget, and search hard for the right plane to show up. To be honest the largest variance that is hard to quantify is maintenance history and condition of the plane. I’m looking at plane after plane show up for sale with 30 hrs in the past decade and minimal upkeep. Lots of threads on this site bragging about years of $500 annuals. Sometimes it feels like over half of the Mooney engine overhauls are prop strike related. My suggestion: avionics values - set on current used values (ebay) overhaul value - years and shop reputation should hold more value airframe value - condition and quality IA maintenance/inspections hold a high importance
  20. I noticed this on the BK site...you might need to use that exact card reader with the updated firmware? It’s odd though because it mentions 94 update can use the new updater program which runs on win 7 and up. KLN 94 database card can use a SanDisk ImageMateSDDR-31 with a Firmware Upgrade. No other card readers are compatible.A Windows 98 or Windows ME computer is required to upgrade the firmwarein the ImageMate. The ImageMate will not work with Windows XP servicepack 3, Vista, Windows 7 or 8 and up.
  21. Does the 94 actually download the card or just run the database from the card? I think jeppesen sells preloaded cards?
  22. I would expect a 3k delta between the 335 and 345. If you are planning on keeping the stratus I would keep the 335. If you had an older transponder or a larger mfd I would say go for the 345.
  23. I think some systems have had the intake tube fall off. How many years since the pumps were rebuilt? I think @Yooper Rocketman had an informative post on fixing his float level but I can’t find the thread right now.
  24. I would expect updates to be available for a very long time. Many people are angry that (in 8 months) Garmin will no longer fix the units. I give them credit for producing the unit for 5ish years and supporting it for another decade.
  25. If you decide to upgrade to the 345r it will combine the adsb traffic with your skywatch. Very nice bravo by the way!
