The flush mount depth and cutouts are the same. However, with three displays next to each other a continuous setback panel will work the same and would be easy to fab when the panel is being cut.
-
Off memory I think it was around 1k for three of the flush mounts. I was planning having the panel fabricator make a one piece U bracket with the standard 6 pack cutout. With all the displays mounted I would then mark for the attachment screws to make sure everything lined up.

I think the TT is great how it is. However, the aspen might be able to input multiple sources/capabilities into the unit. Here is a small piece of the new aspen software for the stec unit. The pfd might allow updated software to work with the TT in a similar way.

@flyboy0681 I just wanted to pass on some info I gathered on another forum. Apparently Avemco has been using different strategies to keep the rates down. Two things caught my attention. First in some policies have a disclaimer that they will have the ability to calculate the aircraft “true value” at the time of the claim (vs what you insured for). The second item is they might limit non passenger liabilities to “per person” limits of 100k vs 1m that most policies cover. That second item is very important IMO even though the likelihood of injuring someone on the ground is low. Please read your policy closely.

The key for me is having the heading bug work on the aspen and future integration with alt pre select and TAS climb. While I’m dreaming allow an ILS signal pass through to the AP as well.
-
I agree but I think what you’re looking at is either inside the release (embedded in the plastic bezel) or the mounting frame that is placed in between the panel and display.
-
I can’t believe no one was hurt. It put a knot in my stomach when he danced in front of the prop.
-
That’s the cutout in the panel. The silver color I think comes from camera angle looking right down into the release lever.
-
I think you’re looking at the release lever. That’s why flush mount units need to have a cutout at the top to allow the unit to be removed.

I think LC is correct. However, the E5 and the new max displays are claiming 2 hr battery life with the internal battery. I wonder if the external battery will last 6-8 hrs with the new internals. Also both 1000 displays need to be upgraded to max status and need to be connected to a tso’d waas navigator for error correction.

Oh no, the cheap bastards might look down on me. I’m running to my phone to cancel my order! It’s all about priorities, interior is/was at the bottom of my list.

Put the altimeter over on the copilot side and leave the selector where it is. Force the rotation of copilots drooling over your panel to keep it updated.

I’m going against the grain but I would not spend the money unless you have a panel mount adsb in to display on the units. The maps displays are not that intuitive (similar to the 430/530). However, having large certified screens to show a wx500, traffic, and weather is definitely worth it.

Any updates? Fast shipping, good fit, comfortable? Thinking about placing an order this weekend.

Sent out 10 letters asking for bids on a very detailed proposal. These went to well known shops within a 3 hr radius of MI. Current dealer is just an hour south. I was very surprised how dealer bids can change over the years. The very same dealer who was most reasonable 6 years ago for a 750/650 install was on the opposite end for the current work and was estimating 150 hrs for the TXI alone.

Straight in, I did wonder about canceling ifr during the missed as the weather was beautiful around the airport minus the ice covered trees around us. I guess since the circling was the same as the lnav mda we could have circled around the airport and remained in the system

I would think option 2 could be had for 50-55 out the door. Equipment around 30k and the rest for labor. Still expensive but more reasonable using the quotes I received.

I’ve been on one flight (right seat) that we bounced twice and then had a perfect touchdown. I’ve given it a lot of thought since that time on what went wrong and how I would do it differently in the future. Background... Landing after a 900 nm direct flight Know icing conditions- flew through a fair amount 1500-2500 agl First approach to mins (DA) resulted in GA. Broke out in sunny skies right over the airport (very strange weather) Back up into icing and set up second approach using MDA. Set us up for being high and fast when we broke out. Did not bleed off enough speed and did two small bounces that felt like might have turned into a porpoise. Chose to burn up more runway (we had plenty) and hold it off. Had about 1.4 hrs of fuel left and conditions were lifting. This feels like a “real world” occurrence. What would you do? I can see it both ways go around vs hold it off.

OSH ‘17 had the SV, AOA, and adsb for $1300. Somehow not one of those unlocks made it to my aspen. I guess I like it how it is.

I thought really hard about adding a aspen mfd to my panel. In fact I had a brand new unit on my desk for months trying to make the decision. In the end I sold the unit to a forum member because I did not want to add a 345 to the plane as I already had a like new 330es. I was planning on picking up a gdl 50r (with a 660 above my 430) to mount behind the panel and hardwire that to my 430w for Flight plane transfer and my 330es for tis traffic. It would also put adsb info on ForeFlight and push my flight plan one way to the iPad. As of now I still have my iPhone 7 Plus mounted above the 430 which along with my iPad (yoke) provides info from my stratus 2 (worth about 10 cents these days). Traffic and weather on my iPhone with plates and charts on the iPad.

Please do a quick write up of your experience with Jewel. Most of the feedback has been from 180/200 hp overhauls. Nice to see you’re using them for the rocket. If you make it down your list of buyers send me a message and I’ll keep it in the ice bucket we call home.

I hope you install a ton! Many shops are installing just a 345 for slightly less than that. Question, is more wiring required when interfacing with an aspen?
-
All I have is estimated install cost for a 10 inch txi, g5, gad29, 345, and a gfc500 with pitch trim. It’s not inexpensive...
-
Not to mention a new panel too. I Responded to your earlier post about the delta between the two units which I feel is 5k. However, that does not include dual g5’s with the gad adapter, the auto pitch trim, etc. You wanted real world numbers, I was just adding a data point that was double your estimated installed cost.
