  1. I think you have it. Sounds like he’s pulling it off too soon and/or not allowing it to accelerate in ground effect.
  2. What’s the strategy for an upside-down filter on a Continental 520?
  3. I think it was George Braley or one of the APS guys who pointed out 1. 100LL is an excellent solvent, and the injectors see a lot of it 2. The number one contaminant seen in an injector is red fiber from a rag
  4. KAS-297b requires KEA-130a. BTW, I would like to do the same upgrade. I'll be interested to hear how you get along.
  5. Do you get a better deal from ATP than continental.aero?
  6. I don't see all the information in SID 97-3g represented in the M-0 I linked to above. Is the copy of M-0 I linked to above complete?
  7. All mechanics are not created equally. Continental fuel injection systems are a wonderful thing under most circumstances, but setup requires specialized knowledge, experience, and tooling. The instructions used to be in SID 97-3, but have now been incorporated into the M-0 document. You can find old versions of the SID on the internet, but I have not found the M-0 document. I believe the latest rev of the SID before it went to M-0 was "G" (SID 97-3g). I don't know if changes to the procedure were incorporated into the M-0 document. BOTTOM LINE: If your mechanic is not intimately familiar with these engines, or doesn't have experience setting up their fuel system, or doesn't have the tooling, or doesn't have the M-0 document, you are probably wasting your time and money. http://pceonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/SID97-3GFuelSysSetUp.pdf EDIT: Found a copy of M-0 at: https://www.csobeech.com/files/TCM-StandardPracticeManual.pdf BUT, even though M-0 says it has incorporated SID 97-3g, I don't see all the material that was in the older manual. Maybe @M20Doc will weigh in on where the contents of SID 97-3g went -- he always seems to have the appropriate documentation for all occasions.
  8. This part is certainly true.
  9. Do you have the specifications and source for that bulb?
  10. I used to use it only while re-assembling auto engines. No idea if it helped in any way, but I wanted something on those parts that would hang in there until after the first start. EDIT: I got to start paying attention to the dates on these posts…
  11. Ahh, “plane”….”craft”…it’s all the same. Still… We are currently out of stock on the following products: Champion CH48103, CH48108, CH48109, CH48110 & CH48111 Aeroshell Turbine 555 Tempest AA48103, AA48108, AA48109, & AA48110
  12. Yeah, I guess my “cheapest” comment isn’t always true. But In addition to the Ford “Excessive” or whatever their latest behemoth is called, I see tons of Kias on the street, and I’m pretty sure people are buying on price, not frequency of repair and build quality.
  13. People mostly prefer the cheapest goods and services.
  14. They may know that over-tightening will deform the “o-ring”. I have a lot more experience with car filters, but tightening with a wrench was neither desirable or necessary.
  15. And then you have formula cars. It’s amazing how much can be done while staying within strict dimensional specifications.
  16. Kind of like first solo in a single-seat airplane.
  17. That harkens back to a Don Garlits interview with a guy who asked why he liked the big block motors so much. Garlits reached in his desk and pulled out a .45, asking “you know why I like this gun so much?” Answer was “because they don’t make a .46.”
  18. Yes! The spring compressor was an obstacle to getting the job done.
  19. The adjusting mechanism would contact the edge if the barrel before the spring steel could get to the “bottom” of the chamfer. You had to be there.
  20. Both my iPads have GPS and cellular. I use the iPad as my phone via VOIP. Only downside is that all calls are on speaker. Hardly touch the phone any more.
  21. Cool! I haven’t used hotspot because my cell plan applies a substantial surcharge.
  22. This has become my mantra for any kind of hired work — quality is correlated more to the person doing the work than the business that hired that person. I have had disgusting work performed by employees of extremely highly regarded businesses.
  23. Will that allow your EFB access to gps?
  24. I have worked on engines with such a deep chamfer that my ring compresser would not work.
